sorry drip, i deleted this from your quiver thread,,its not needed in there.

The way some of you blokes change your boards in the long room and i don't just mean longboards….

what's wrong with the board you own now
is it because you don't have enough knowledge of surfing and made poor decisions.
maybe its because you are better than the boards you are riding.

serious you blokes…you must know what you want by now,,,, rails rocker length width thickness shape WTF its not that hard.
How long have you blokes been surfing,,farkn long time from what I've heard so you blokes must know what you want.
on a serious note, is it just the art or the thrill of a new board.(the art question is not directed at Mac)
they ALL can't be average boards.

BTW I'm struggling to understand (thats not hard for me)
why so many blokes here change boards.

when i went through the SUP thing stage and purchased about 5 boards, why
because i didn't know anything about sup from vol too the width i needed and what i needed it for.
i figured it out about 12months ago and haven't purchased a board since.
am i good,,, NO FARKN WAY but i have an idea what the board can do and what i can do
and now i smile after every surf.

im not against new boards or peeps buying new things or OCD
I'm just interested

Yeah - I don't understand it either. I have a mate who gets a new board every 6 - 9mths. Will literally be a copy of the last one +/- an inch in length or something... then he decides he doesn't like it and goes again... I tend to run my boards until they are starting to de-laminate.... At the moment I have a fat fish that does me for 75% of conditions and a mal... both are 4+ years old...

Yeah me to,I try to get as much as I can out of mine, been riding a 9'3' Bob Brown for about 3+ years now, prior to that I had a 9'6" that I rode for 10 years, haha.I also have a new 8 footer which I don't ride all that much but will keep it for as long as it takes and still use it every now and then.I can understand the peeps who regularly buy new ones because it is a good feeling having a new board but being able to afford to do it regularly is another thing to.
btw:Cobra you must be good, because if you smile every time after a surf, it proves it.The best surfer is the one who's having the most fun

I replace mine after I snap them or they fall apart. Simple. A few times I have replaced them quickly because I just felt they were not to my liking. Generally though it's when they have been surfed to death. That's why I like Firewire as they last a whole lot longer.

I keep all my boards as they all feel fresh after sitting on the rack for 6mths some more than others and a change of fins does wonders

Over about 7 years I bought 5 6'6" X 18 3/4 X 2 5/8 all rounders. What I changed was the bottoms. Vee, single to double, reverse Vee, deep six channels, single to flat to vee with double (Tom Hoye's patented Five Stage Vortex Transfer Vehicle). I learned a lot. That's one reason I changed boards back in the day.

Then I got injured and couldn't surf them anymore. Enter the single fin and no new boards for four years. A seven foot single fin was so versatile it filled three of the four places is my working quiver. I would still pull a twinny when it was tiny, but that board did me from four to a very nervous eight foot.

Then I went around Australia and got The Fountain Of Youth in Queensland. That was my introduction to longboard shapes. Between that experience of glide and the boards I saw getting surfed in Ulladulla I realised I had entered a whole new phase in my surfing career and was on completely the wrong boards and would have way more fun on much longer, wider boards getting lots of waves. Between the creep of age, the lack of time via family and work, I was no longer the fit and hard 30 year old who could sit on the inside and rack up the wave count while doing fifty duck dives. I would become the guy out the back getting every set wave he wanted on an annoyingly big board.

So last year I was gifted a board by my Dad (and a couple of hungie from me), sold a couple of boards for another, swapped an unused kite for my first longboard and bought one outright myself. And I suddenly had a completely revamped quiver that should do me for years.

I do eye off performance orientated longboards for some of reefies (think double head high plus waves) but I guess that's what the new gun is for (and the eight footer). I would like to try a mini-simmons, but that's what the Wahoo and Fountain of Youth are for. And having surfed my mates McCoys recently one of them would be cool, they don't paddle quite as well as my other boards so I realistically would probably finish up surfing the recent purchases anyway.

If a ridiculous bargain second handy popped up I might grab one of those listed above (hence my interest in another thread in a McTavish F4), but really I am sorted.

So I change boards out of design interest, injury, age, style of surfing, fitness and wave greed.

I know this is the longboard room, but I reckon most surfers need a three board quiver. A fish, all rounder, gun. In McTavish terms, Pinnacle or Noserider, Evo, and Vuelo or G2.

My current quiver is five boards I surf regularly. And it will do for quite a long time I think until somethin wears out.

I must admit I have been a bit of a board whore in the last few years ( 5 in the last 12 months alone )
I think it's good to surf a range of different boards and for myself it keeps the stoke going. And this is what I am into.

I don't drink or smoke, so I what else do you spend your money on
Some blokes do up old cars or bikes, Don't get me wrong if I had the tools/time/space and the missus had just a little hint of petrol in her veins, I would love a bike or too, and may-be a HK or XB coupe to tinker around with but that ain't happening.

Some blokes piss it up the wall or chop it up in the mull bowl ( for me this was ok in my teens and early 20's but gets boring after that )
Some blokes get there kicks from fishing and spend BIG $$$ on boats/ gear and the rest. The word BOAT stands for ( Bring Out Another Thousand ) doesn't it
I can say this cause the old man owns a 45 footer.

Some guys love their 4wd's and all the camping stuff that goes with it.

So for me I think it's what does every bloke want to spend his spare hard ern'ed on

So good points there,I read not so long ago about people who suffer from depression buy things to make them feel good but the fun stops once it arrives so they buy more stuff.

some good points and i appreciate the feedback…. but hey if you surf the same break you must know what you need after a season or two.
but after reading teds post, it got me thinking about the traveling surfer and the thoughts spinning in their heads ..a board a week for some or just knowing your board.
but some can surf with one board for all waves in all conditions i guess knowing the boards limits or just knowing the board like the back of your hand
and the break helps.
hey like locky said some peeps blow $$$ on different toys and if surfing is your play time and boards are your toys why not.

if I could have only one board, it would be the Fountain of Youth if I knew the waves tended to small, it the seven foot singly if it tended to four foot plus. Basically, TFY for the East Coast and south coast of WA and the singly for the SW or NW of WA.

Nothing wrong with a one board quiver and when I do my northern sojourns I pack three boards that do the same thing in case I ding, snap or lose one or two.

I don't drink or smoke either so Locky nailed it for me a bit too.

Living here we are lucky in some ways, you will see some awesome looking boards and because they are not hard to source it triggers the purchase.Sure we know the break and what works but your always thinking and in most cases over thinking the quiver, one board purchase can have a pack of cards effect on the entire quiver.

Mate if I was a half cocked surfer and not a board whore,a 906 207 model would be all I would need, one board quiver but I love boards too much.

with no thoughts of where it fits in their quiver.
hey thats cool it makes them feel good they have the $$$ but it still has no place in their quiver

I'm no retro hipster surfer.I love the look of some of them but I know they are pigs to ride best suited for the real highly skilled surfer.
I've got one coming a real classic looking board with all modern features, its for really small days and I'm hoping it will be more user friendly
than my NR,if it is I'll keep it if not it will go,its about trying something different sometimes and maybe wanking on with the knowledge one
dose not have but its also fun, hoping its going to work.I'm set with 3 keepers not that they are the greatest board,.but they are stunning go
goo very well all the same.

I'm a non smoking /drinking/gambling bloke so getting boards has never been a guilt thing for me. You couldn't get a better healthier pursuit/ lifestyle than surfing ( for me anyway) and you only go round once . I had a great quiver for a while but am on the pop out 666's . Not interested in going down the custom road so am happy with what I've got and as stoked as ever . I'm more than happy to see you blokes putting up new boards to look at and there's been some nice ones . Keep me coming

you sound like 90% on my mates …it was funny when i was quickly buying boards to fill the sup quiver,,lets just say i got some funny looks.
i remember one of my mates had a big argument with a bloke in indo,,, saying ,if you can't surf with just one board,,, you're just another poser.
funny thing is he has three boards
