Hows it looking for the weekend? I can never get the report right for the North Coast...
I need to swing up to see Tim Clarke and was hoping to get a surf in on the trip... 
Should be a fair westerly swell rolling into Devonport river mouth Saturday morning. - is talk of running the NWBR spring Comp that morning so looking good at this stage . I am heading farther west for the weekend hoping to get some waves out that way as well
North coast swell can be hard to hard to pick . ( why it's known locally as the phantom coast ) Can be very fickle

I know, I used to head up there every 2 weeks for wok for and really only scored a hand full of times. Surfed Penguin Reef a few times and had a few good surfs at Preservation Bay...
No point in heading up if there's a comp though...
Some of the action at Devonport tody . Saturday's Comp is a mobile Comp Andy - could be held anywhere from Marrawah to Devonport - reckon they will be picking a spot out of the wind if possible
Penguin reef half tide in on nice easterly swell - my idea of paradise . Have you tried the point west side of Preservation bay - perfect longboard wave on about the same tide and swell . Andy Comp is at Devonport river mouth now 7 am Saturday - so yep will be a bit crowded .

I havent tried that point but have seen it close a few times... The Penguin reef was real fun the time I surfed it, was about 2hrs after low tide and OH... Bit of a burger to get into but then pretty fast and a decent nose rider.
I might hit the east coast instead, looks promising.

Haha , love living on the coast in Northwest tassie - don't think I could live anywhere else long term , but yes the wind is a pain in the a..se .

Devonport River on Saturday, drove up to chat with Tim Clarke..
Looked fun waves but the crowd was crazy so I didn't surf. only 12 out but mann, no etiquette at that joint, was drop in central...

Yep personally stay away from the place . Few other spots on the coast the same , I don't do crowds we are lucky enough to have plenty of deserted beaches in tassie where I get to have the beach to myself .
Very interested to see how this local wave pool goes in next month or two ,apparently it's the biggest piston in the world that sits in the centre of the lake and pumps out a circular wave with a contoured bottom that produces different wave shapes. I'm sceptical, some big dollars have been spent and the models must of worked, let's wait and see.

That one on the GC is not open to the public, its the testing facility...

SP At first no . its a proto I know a local 666 fella who's signed to surf it and others like occ.
All I know its EFN big and in a beautiful spot , truly the surrounding mountains looks like the glass house mountains. Last nights TV stated They are not fare from filling it they said it will take about a week to fill.
funny thing SP interested groups have popped up about accom,resort,eating and that means COFFEEEE.
