Yeah Pup I had a bit of a break. Had a lot going on the past 6 months but I've been looking in every now and then. Always interesting to see people getting new boards and things.

Pretty sure that's Esperence...guy paddled in calmly coz he says he thinks it would have attacked if he panicked & paddled like buggery. It was following him for a bit.

I only felt comfortable about it coz I was on a 666 with my arms & legs out of the water & a big stick to hit the bugger with

I saw a shark about 3m this morning. A set was coming through...was out with one other bloke who caught the first wave of the set. I saw it as I was paddling out to meet the second wave of the set. It was swimming casually along the bottom towards me & I had a great view of it coz I was on a 666. I had to take my eyes off the shark as it was just about in line & a bit in front of me coz I was swinging around to catch the wave. I was like ok, don't fall, don't fall. Caught the wave in & told the other bloke about it who stopped & was about to head in. But I told him it was only 3m & would be past us by now & that I'd let him no if I saw it again. Waves were too damn good to head in when the 2 of us had it to ourselves. 4 or 5 metres though & I would of been the fark out of there.

wow mick..im glad we are talking about it? better get yourself a garth now

lol...I've already got one without the print. Just a plain white one I used to wear in winter to keep warm. But it caused a neck injury about 8 years ago when I face planted from a late takeoff. The I beleive the helmet stopped me from penetrating the water properly & snapped my head back, farking my neck muscles.

I have a mate who lives over the road from there. He said the waves were firing and crowded and when the shark arrived the commotion and horns from the carpark soon emptied the line up. Except for that muppet. He rolled the dice to snag a few waves while the rest of the town watched thinking what an absolute fool. No kudos there, just derision. Especially considering what happened not long after on the other side of town.

Welcome back smh - your thoughts have been missed! Hope your back is on the mend and you are prone paddling once more.

Mick - heavy stuff ! Thats a big paddle back in as well - plus you need to negotiate some reef on route. Ahhhh

What a day today. Had 3 surfs. Travelled a fair distance. Left home at 4:30am and just got back now. Ran into one seabreeze member out in the water (who incidentally gave me my best wave of the first session when it was his turn and he was in prime position - thanks). Surfed 3 completely diff spots and travelled a total of 503km. The round trip cost me $36 in fuel - I averaged 6.32km per 100km (for Simondo). Spent 7 hours in the water (if I had a GPS watch I could tell ya how many waves I caught) and picked up some of my fav pork ribs from the Bulahdelah butcher on the way home. Also had a pie from the bakery next door. Today was the day when I wanted to put the Nano and its new fin setup to the test and am pretty stoked with the results. Its fair to say that the Nano is rapidly moving up the list of the best boards I have owned. Other highlights included listening to an amazing chat on the ABC with explorer Tim Jarvis about his Shackleton epic adventure. What a legend that fella is. Top day out and to top it off it seems I am a bit sunburnt. Left the hat behind today as it was pissing with rain when I set off and did not even think to grab it off the line. Whoops. Just opening beer number two - should be asleep by 8:30 with a big smile. Days like today rock. Hope you all got some good ones.

Yeah I heard the same, but people think we're all muppets for surfing in "their territory". There are times that you see them that often & how many times do you think they're there & you don't see them? About 99% more often I reckon ...People diving with the farging things on tv doco's, I wouldn't call a bloke a muppet for being a bit slow for leaving cranking waves before the damn thing started getting annoying...& ya can't consider hindsight in the equation really can ya?

Not really heavy stuff mate, the video Fumi & I made snorkling up the road a bit when a shark appeared is way more confronting...but hey, there are many different types of sharks. They're not all aggressive GW's. Protect the rest to take up the slack while we wipe out the whites I say ....Good to hear ya had a great day

Your welcome Ted, plenty of waves in the ocean to share. Did you hit boomers on the way home then? The B'delah pie shop is a regular when out on the Ducati.

For those who havn't heard of Teds emigration plans, all I can say is very impressive and I wish him the best of good fortune in his endeavours.

It's about risk management. Many people get away with not wearing seatbelts, but everytime they drive without seatbelt they have a higher risk of serious injury. I wonder if all the people who die each year would like to take that decision back. Idiotic behaviour is idiotic behaviour and doing what he did for a few waves is just dumb. Right up there with surfing without a leggie at Snapper. All three behaviours are variations on Russian Roulette with the eventual outcome a certainty if you play enough. Fortunately two of the examples only result in injury to the fool. The leggie one is also inconsiderate and selfish on top of foolish and results in injury to others.

And while there may be sharks around we don't see, there are not flocks of Whites wandering around. That's the nature of being an apex predator - their numbers must be markedly less than the prey.

Thanks Stu was great to catch up. Boomers on the way home was fun. Some nicely shaped action in the southern corner. A few bodies in the water but not too bad considering the time of year. a couple of really good surfers as well.

Some fun ones at home this morning until about 6:30am when I counted over 25 in and left the water. A shame my normal spot was not doing its thing and I had to go to the other spot. Couple of nice grunty and hollow 3ft peaks running down the beach - swell is very NE today. Long lulls though. Looks like it will be a great day to be surfing all day again but sadly I am down in the big smoke with a full agenda today. Can not wait for the camp ground to empty out and the rest of the crew to go back to work.
