Took the McNeill out in crappy 1&1/2' wonky beachbreak waves this morning. It was really to find out how it floated me and paddled into waves as I already knew once I caught them how it would go having owned an RTT previously.
Sitting with the board level in the water under me had the waterline just under my pecs...which is just not enough foam for me any more. Paddled well and wasn't too hard to catch waves as long as i sat well inside. Reality is that where I surf its often crowded and there's always going to be plenty of crew using a lot more foam so I have trouble being a scraps dweller...and I don't have it in me to paddle around aggressively enough to get more waves.
Went in and paddled back out on my 7'8" and it was happy days.
If anyone is reading this and frothing for a cherry RTT flaxseed in new condition for $595 its at Beacbeat at Alex Hdld. Probably sold by now anyway.

Ah yes a Bonzer, very nice choice.
It was actually a toss up between a Russ Short and this stretched out twinny.
Saving the RS for this time next year for a milestone birthday.

Thanks for the idea Toobz, my birthday is in January! RS for early next year and thanks to the twist in this thread, This afternoon I convinced myself a 6"8 Vouch vish is the go (unless cuttles relents on the rocket fish which he hasn't ridden in almost 2 months) ......nnot that u board whores would say "no don't do it" but I ll ask anyway.... thoughts anyone????

Do it!!!
Plenty of hype coming from the Vouch boys which of course is to be expected but I'm starting to see a bit coming from other peeps too. There's a bit of footage on Insta both from Aus and Japan and they look great underfoot. Owning a small vish (& loving it) it would of been on the short list for me except for the price, the GM was just soooo much cheaper.

I think there's some footage of him at solid Shipsterns on it too.

That looks interesting! Love seeing all the old step ups/guns come out of the woodwork during Cyclone swells.

On another note I took the stretched twin out for a paddle today. Report said 2-3ft but it was more like 1-2 and fading fast.
I can't really do a proper review as waves were pretty tiny and semi closing out. I did get a few that held up so I got to try out some fins at least.
Straight away the AMT's lacked drive and drifted when driving hard off the bottom. Not enough base and not enough overall area.
Salty Merchants uprights were way better, more drive but still nice and manoeuvrable. I could definitely live with this set up but still felt I could do with a little more drive. I feel this board will come out when the waves are good to epic so drive probably wouldn't be as big of an issue in those conditions but then the problem is the Salty's have a lot of flex. I really didn't like that in solid waves. (These fins were awesome in a performance fish/twinny I had up to about 3ft.)
I stopped off at my local shop on the way home to check out some fins and ended up grabbing a set of the Christenson Keels. They have similar overall area to the Salty's but a lot more base. They should provide that extra drive but aren't really that swept back like a lot of keels so hopefully they keep some of that pivot and manoeuvrability. They're also a lot stiffer which should suit larger waves.
We're heading west for a few days so hopefully I score some waves and get to put the board and new fins though their paces.

At the very least they look good

That is a slick looking set of fins. Should do what you're asking of them. Look forward to hearing more of the the boards performance.
3.50mins. Shorter twin pin makes an appearance.

I like watching these videos as they show regular Joes, Slippery Surf Bettys and Balinese rippers and wannnabe rippers all doing their thing.

"A New Hampshire man placed second in an innovation contest after fashioning a surfboard out of hundreds of used Dunkin' Donuts coffee cups.

Thirty-two-year-old Korey Nolan of Hampton Falls spent seven months collecting the cups for a competition put on by surf brand Vissla called Creators and Innovators Upcycle Contest. The Portsmouth Herald reports Nolan's board's made out of 700 cups.

Nolan also used more than 30 plastic straws and other materials in his board, which placed second out of 15 finalists. Most cups came from family members who gave them to Nolan, though some were picked up from the roadside.

The Herald reports Nolan compressed the raw materials together and finished the board using bamboo, epoxy, fiberglass cloth, fiberboard and Masonite compression mold. He says it "rides great."

I went to the handcraft show at burleigh brewing. I saw this board and bob margetts knew this guy.
Bryan bates.
Hand makes the whole lot .
Right down to the multi rasta colours fin panels layups.
Insane looking and surprisingly pretty light. Been doing it that way for 20 years
I might go and demo a board from byron . The guy said he would want me to try and surf a few boards first and we'll work out a board
No machine cut semi pop out factory job here.
No talking to some kid hipster salemans with an attitude to design your 'custom board'.
A real craftsman

Ps voted this one best art and glass jobs
Phil myers from free flight had a 10 channel single fin. I believe a col smith model i know a few people give best shape. Absolutely insane

Finally got some decent waves on the McNeill stretched twinny today. Head to OH sheet glass shifty beachy. Gary pretty much nailed the brief on this one, similar paddle, early entry and glide of a mid but nice and nimble off the tail. You can still cruise and carve from a more forward stance which I wasn't sure I'd be able to do with the amount of rocker. From that position it feels as if you're not only turning off the rail but also using the edge of the torus channel.
Off the tail it's very lively. With the tail being quite narrow the fins are set quite close together which on a couple turns kind of reminded me of my Duos which was surprising considering the keel fins I was using.
The 2 things that really stand out the most about this board are:
1. How smooth and well it goes rail to rail. I just couldn't keep still on the thing, bottom turn into a carve off the top straight back into another bottom turn and repeat, just did it seamlessly.
2. The control you have at speed. This really was next level.

Conditions were pretty nice this morning.

Geez, sounds like you've found a winner!! What more could we ask of a board?

Were you thinking you might not be able to cruise and carve from a more forward stance because of too much or too little rocker? Or something about the rocker distribution?
