Neither Brewer or McTavish Or McCoy(who claims it too) started the shorter boards.

When Bob Evans made The Way WE Like It in 1968, the South African sequence shows Jbay footage of them riding 5/6(a 12yo shaunTomson) to 6/6(the full grown adults rode around that size).

Evo spread the word and by mid 69 ,6/6-7/0 were popular on EastCoast Australia.

McTavish,Nat,TedSpencer took 8/0-8-7s to Hawaii at the end of 67,Midget had a 7/10...all VeeBottom "stubbys" as they were called.

We then went though the "transition year" lengths were 7/6-8/4 depending on the size of the surfer, but there were 3 shapes.

Started with Stubbys(late 67) then Pintails(Midget won BobbyBrown, the rest were on stubs, apart from KeithPaul who had big wide roundtales).Around August,Trackers started appearing.

Didn't seem like DB had much thought of McT, as much as he says they had a good relationship...more of a George fan imo.

Bob has been pivotal in the Aussie surf scene but I think all shapers of that era pinched ideas from each other.

Well, early this week Barry Bennett passed aged 91.

Everyone who had a business or personal connection seemed to speak highly of him.

Originally a sparkY who started making plywood boards outside of his regular job, back in the 50s

Introduced foam to OZ and always had surfboards/Clubby stuff coming out of his factory. He was hands on and a hard worker.

His sons and grandsons will carry on the business.

Former Pro surfer Chris Davidson 45, has died in Kempsey hospital, probably early Sunday morning.

Apparently,he was at one of the pubs in SouW rocks and had an altercation with a local 42yo male after closing time.

Punches thrown and Davison's head hit the ground/Cement(?).

Paramedics attended and treated him then transferred him to hospital.

Very sad to see anyone get hurt due to the influence of alcohol(most likely).

Not sure if DavO had children but friends and family would be in shock,as is the quiet village known locally as the Rocks.

The 42yo has been arrested and charged with assault causing death very serious charge.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Davo had a daughter.

Apparently the alleged offender is the brother of Waratahs coach Darren Coleman.
