Yeah looks to be a local real estate agent from around Mermaid.
There was surf cam footage of the attack on Stab's IG (which thankfully they've since taken down), horrific stuff. That shark was not f*****g around.

R.I.P. Ol' mate.

Is that confirmed its the real estate agent Toobz? the clip is on most news feeds still up and all over insta

Really? That's terrible for his family and friends to have to see that. I only saw a couple that had the initial splashing etc. Stab had the whole attack posted.

Does South Qld still have the shark mitigation strategies in place?

Someone in the surf this morning said they removed the nets.

Any confirmation it is a GW? I heard they caught a big Tiger Shark but the tooth found in the blokes board was likely from a GW.

That's correct the big Tiger was caught in the nets not the same shark which was a GW.

Vale Michael Tomson, gone at 66.
He and (especially) his cousin Shaun were in so many of the mags and movies when I was a teen.

Just a few bits of his wettie, poor guy RIP

Frightening news, I'm headed there in January. Friends expressed concern even prior to this & now after this the missus also...but absolutely beautiful amazing place with great people. Condolences to them all at this tough time.

no mate its the norm now.
get use to it, because it will become worse yet.
the more voice the alternative shark device groups get the more brain dead followers preach the benefits.
they sold-out human life for some **** to become rich at others expense .
what is the new norm.... cry louder & harder than the others.
look around the world is proof of that.

So so many more people entering the ocean on different forms of craft and shark numbers growing like wild fire, as Cobra said more many more to come sadly. I was never bothered about them but after our attack and so many sightings and chat in the water it's freaked me

YES.the numbers of Whites is right up now,so I;m inclined to think we will be entering a new era of 6-8 deaths by shark bite per annum.

Not sure how many this year but more on the EastCoast.

Vic Hislop the Great White shark hunter said back in the 80s "If you protect the Great White now you're going to need protection yourselves in 30 years".Looks like he was not far off with his prediction.
