Oh so politically incorrect CF.

We are a marginalised minority in the greater surfing population.

Well I would be in that group if I had one

Anyway think I'm gonna have to have a crack at that after pay, ride now pay later thingy.

And to keep it affordable ................ a popout again.

Sorry Aussie shapers, just couldn't find anyone or anything that offered the same affordability for build, features and performance.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong and steer me to the path of enlightenment.

Affordable enlightenment that is.

Dose Clearwater surf shop offer after pay? If so why not order a custom? I look at this way, you're already burnt money on a couple of boards that either didn't work or stand up construction wise. With that you could have ordered a new custom board. Quality always wins in the end.

They are dodge. Poor build. Don't do it.

you will always see me defend TSBW as my experience with them and their boards has been awesome.

Torq? I have seen a lot of very poor constructions. Very very poor.

Thanks all for your reply's.

Hence why I put it out to the greater wisdom of the crowd for comment and backlash

It's really quite a tricky one for me, I love the Webber offer. But don't have the cash to spring for it up front, and would feel totally guilty if a deal had to be paid off over time, been trying to wheel and deal some good cheapies and turning them into cash for the Webber only to have come unstuck with car problems.

The closest thing I have found to my wish list is the Torq, and yes whilst I take on board the comments of quality etc. I have actually spoken to 4 unbiased owners who have raved about them.

So I'm in a quandary, my Carbon Jet was a fantastic build quality compared to my Webber which snapped, regardless of opinions to the contrary on SBWH product. But that could have just as easily been luck of the draw on my part with the Carbon Jet, and unlucky on the Webber.

Have to say and most will already know that I have a strong preference for the outline of long fish boards over the look of the egg shape of the Webber.

And in that zone there seems to be a lot on offer, but very few with 5 x futures and in a 6'10 size.

I put the feelers out and got some quotes from shapers near and far, the mix being between $850 to $1100 with freight on top, and missed out on an absolute ripper quad fish on the east coast a few weeks back by 5 mins. Which I reckon Cuttlefishes mate snapped up, it's on consignment with a surfshop in Manley now for twice the price.

So I've scrounged high and low, enquired here there and everywhere, look east and west and at freight costs etc. And quite simply there is nothing around that I can easily afford or justify spending any longer looking around for.

Deals not done yet but a local shop has the exact Torq on the floor that they have given me a very good price on, and with afterpay. So very, very tempting to just hit that, get the car fixed, and back into the water. Gonna give it another week of searching around until I have the car fixed, can't get to the beach anyway.

Cheers boy and girls, and appreciate the help of many and all.

Cheers Drip, appreciate the feedback.

Not the same as I have gotten from 4 owners who raved about them and love their performance. But they are not in the know like your boys are, so I place a greater weight on your assessment and may yet live to regret not heading it.

I'll hit them up with a description of what I am after and see what it comes in at with freight to WA as a finished product. have mostly hit up local shapers but all out of my price reach, so assumed that CW with freight on top would be even further away.

SP / Chrispy,

Been doing my damnedest to head Aussie, just not looking viable for me as a near term solution.

And I'm tired of being dry. The yearning to reconnect is powerful.

There is something else keeping me dry at the moment and it is not the lack of a board but the traumatic shark attack last weekend.

Incredibly tragic for the guy involved and his family. Has left a real sombre mood here. The waves have been ordinary since along with overcast conditions but not sure what will happen next offshore day we get. I haven't seen anyone out here since but that would be as much to do with conditions as anything else.

There has been a few tributes for the poor guy involved but I'm surprised there has not been any further comment from authorities about if there will be an investigation or a review. After all someone has lost their life.

Edit - my opinion, I would have been OK to hunt that one down and destroy it. I know others will disagree.

Same as the Webber, but on the shelf and afterpay, shape I like the look of, and I liked the surfs I had on the 6'6 I scored for $100 then sold for $450. It had the same feel underfoot as the Webber, obviously some slight adjustments with size difference but nice rail to rail and good drive, so it's not like a complete unknown quantity to me having ridden one already.

Yeah disagree, just a big fish learning the ropes of territorial food protection. Likely saw old mates mid length as competition for food resources and wanted to scare it off with some bully tactics. At the 3 to 3.5m range this is when they begin to become aggressive over food, territory and mating.

Big case of mistaken identity, poor bloke was likely sitting too close to a school of mullet or something?

I always think back to MF's encounter in SA. If that MF shark wanted him it could have had him hands down regardless of how many fists MF threw. Again likely a case of a big fish trying to bully what he saw as a smaller fish in his food territory.

If it's freaking you out get yourself a Rpla or Sharkshield, some big sticker eyes, and a leg rope with magnets in it.

Guaranteed to maybe or maybe not work but at least you will know you have done everything in your power to protect yourself.

The CW Dfish seems to be closest to my specs but a bit low on volume. Still once I customise the fins to 5 and futures it comes out near $850 without shipping which is significantly more than my budget and the Torque.

I guess the question is do I curb the beast of longing to get wet and try to find more boards to buy sell trade to make some extra coin and afford an Aussie solution or do I get what I already can't afford which is significantly cheaper?

So I'm back to the fit for purpose equation again, really want to support the local industry and shapers but am strapped myself.

Or do I simply accept defeat and keep looking longingly at every mid length that walks past me under the arm of a back packer, teenager, or kook who can afford things that I can't after having busted my arse for over 35 years.

Dang this pisses me off.

Eyes are eyes right? Besides my nasty looking cats eyes where more menacing looking than the puffer fish shark eyes

Cheers Killbot, Already seen that one and got super excited to start with, spoke to the man, he's up sizing as board is only at about 40L.

I rode a Torq 6'6 at 40L and found it didn't have enough float for me so I don't think the extra couple of inches will do it for me sadly.

I love the work that Rosco from Soul's does and got him to price me up a board, but sadly outta my budget.

Cheers, Yeah I got flooded with AI advertising spamming through FB on their stuff.

Seems if you search a lot of board shops and online stores, GT, FB market etc. the AI's pick up on it and flood your feeds with every other SBWB, ESC and Akewatu option that exists.

Give Ross a call and ask him for a guide on the volume at 6'8 x 22 x 2 3/4 with that outline I reckon it would be closer to 45L than 40L.
