Spoke with some of the Gerroa crew about meeting the Feb road trip at Broulee the following weekend. They thought it was a great idea.

I've worked it out why nobody from the GC is attending these road trips, because we don't have to drive the score the best waves right?

Hmmmm. Sharing with 80 guys on GC day in day out compared to a point break with 5 or pumping beach break with 6 on the mid north coast with mates; RT9 wins !

It's actually about the thrill of travel and company of distant located and new mates more then anything I reckon.

Grab a camera Mac.

When I had time out I found following surfers in the lineup and knowing what their manoeuvres we're going to be as a fellow surfer really got me through and to top it off they were always super stoked to get pics and its a great chance to reacquaint and make new friends on the sand.

This is my camera of choice.

They are about $600 at the most now and ridiculously good.

As far a durability goes even high priced Dslr Canons arent great. These plastic bridge cameras are not built for any sort of ruggedness.Fuji released one with some weather sealing and Sony RX 10s have some.
If you want to take these sorts of cameras out to brave the elements, invest in a Dicapac bag.

But confused by that Pete; are you classing the P900 and Canon SX as 'plastic bridge' and not durable ?

I had my Canon in the boot of my car for 7 years, took over 30,000 pics on the beach all over Oz and it's still in A1 condition. Certainly durable and not plastic.

Yes, they are plastic and are bridge cameras.

They do an ok job but they arent sealed in anyway to repel the elements.

They are very capable as an allrounder....all depends what you actually want to do.

+1 "all depends what you actually want to do"

FZ200 is an epic allrounder with unbeatable battery power. A DSLR will beat it for pics, but not for video. Personally video is way more important for me than pics so until DSLR Canon's & Nikon's end their BS video length limitation in order to avoid EU camcorder extra tax and design a DSLR that is able to adjust auto focus on the fly whilst panning near to far or far to near I'm unlikely to own one since I take most of my video/photo's while on holiday & don't wanna carry a bag with an extra couple of lenses...still loving my FZ200, so must admit I'm biasedBut hey, considering this panorama pic for example is 6 x lower res than original. I reckon the FZ200 does a pretty good job
