I watched a bit of Owen Wrights heat his backhand was beyond vertical on nearly every wave and every turn, not sure if he got through but he makes Medina look pretty average as far as backhand attack goes

Round 4 heat 3

Fanning Madina Slatter

That will be something to see. Medina showed yesterday that he can get a huge score out of an average wave. His last ride was on the sort of wave that others were letting go past, cos they wanted the bigger sets. In a couple of cases that meant great surfers didn't get through. They were either unlucky, too picky, or haven't got the air game they need to take on the new kids in small waves. (I still find most aerials a bit annoying. All that spinning seems a bit silly. )
But this heat (if there are waves) will have everything including big carving manturns.

(Geez, the red thumb bandit gets up early. I wonder if he checks the Breeze for Mac posts when he gets up for an early morning pee.)

oooooh im looking forward to it. shame the waves were not as good as what they were on monday night....that **** had me drooling

medina did sum it up nicely on his positioning...sat in close because it was hollow and walled up and he could get three big cracks on it...sadly the brazzo was on the money

Yeah Owen had a different turn every time he hit the lip.

Medina got Wilko, Wilko had a 9.6 or something then Medina went mental...

Shame, Wilkos backhand at Jbay is awesome..

Yep. Awful. That made it a bit of a lottery... Plus they play an ad at the start of the heat then come back and say "two waves were ridden during the break" then they cross to interviews while waves are being ridden and half the time they insist on finishing some stupid anecdote before commentating the actual riding of the wave. I went to bed when the live feed dropped out for a little while. Besides, what a dumb waste of a round it is when no-one gets knocked out. Hope for a major swell bump today and some real action. Rant over (for now)....

True. Good call... I just said that to keep Lacey happy.
How good is Julian Wilson when he has a red hot go. That bottom turn sets it all up ... yew.
Some great sets and The King is up next....

Is this the last year for Joel on tour? Hard to see him on the WQS trying to back things up.

He is such a good surfer - still one of the best of you ask me but just making heats this season and the next few comps do not really suit him either. He will need a big Pipe finish. Let's hope he pulls through.

How on earth did CJ make that wave. Incredible !

Hurely on - no real big upsets although JJF lost out and Freddy P has retired after winning his heat with a perfect 10 against GM !
