I'm a lightweight at 65kg and my longest board is 9'1"..so does that equal a 95kg person riding a 12'+ board.

This is just me, I cannot think of anything worse than going straight . Supanimal and co enjoy it ,and this is what makes the world awesome. Enjoying stuff because you enjoy it
Hmmm; I think you've clearly illustrated your lack of understanding of the concept if you think both myself and others just 'go straight' mate.
Getting the nose and rail around, finding the sweet spot in the pocket and accelerating through sections are sensations you should open yourself up to and it's certainly not 'going straight'.
What boards do you ride Chrispy ? I don't think I've actually seen anything of your boards or actual surfing level on SB.
Maybe the next roadtrip you'll show us what you love about longboarding, what makes you tick and I can share the stoke of and teach you the art of 'going straight'.

My input into this forum is about my experiences and thoughts based on what I do, I can't give opinions without having knowledge and back that knowledge with the footage I collect which I'm stoked to share with my mates (the backslapping 5 gang).
Your energy might be best served making friends rather then enemies mate, it's my understanding that you've used fear / bullying tactics to push your point previously and it seems consistent with the above post.
If if you want to add opinion, back it up, your perception that I'm a narcissist is your own Issue as those that know me see my posts for what they are. Not narcissistic but loving my surfing life.

I had been undecided about buying mine...thinking I would have limited opportunities to ride it. Although I've only had afew surfs on it i am confident I could ride and enjoy it in most conditions. I spose it comes down to which board u want to ride that day.
the biggest thing was the new feel and lines and glide it gave me.
Having said that a big rolling point with afew fat sections would highlight all things great about it.
4-6 foot high tide Bells type wave would be epic.
it would also eat up 2-3 foot Tea Tree!
ill be definitely taking it down the south coast when the southerly swells start to fire up again!
what Josh Hall board was available?
Glide77, the Josh Hall board that became available was the lime green twin to my yellow 11'8 that Josh bought out with him last Feb.

I also believe getting the size of your board right is the best starting point.
Setting aside your ability, you're just not going to get waves unless you're on equal footing to everyone else. So if the boards to small, you won't get waves, if the boards too big, it may not perform on the wave the way you want it to.
Below is a size chart for the Banana model made by Harbour, Rich Harbour has been in his shop making boards since about 1959, so he should know. I find it very accurate for my limited ability because when I was 240 lbs, the only board I could ride was 10.2 x 24 x 3 5/8.
The board Harbour recommends for that weight is 10.6 x 23 1/8 x 3 11/16
Although my board was shorter than recommended, it is wider, so overall, my board probably matched the chart recommendations in terms of overall volume.
So how did I get it right? Did I read the chart? Nope.
I just kept buying boards that were wrong, and wasting a lot of money until I went to a shaper and said, "these are the sizes I want, this is the blank I want you to use, you do the rest" The shaper did not agree, but he did it anyway and I finally got a board that I could ride.
That's not belittling the shaper, because apart from the size, it was his job to get the plan shape right, the rails right, the nose and tail widths right, and most importantly, the rocker, and tail and nose lifts right, and he nailed them all.
I probably should have looked for a chart like this years ago, it would have saved me a lot of money.
Moving on, I'm now under 210 lbs and that board is now starting to feel as if it's too slow for me, so once again, the chart seems to be in the ball park.
