A common theme is that some cops will fine illegally you if you looks like you have fun, e.g. going to shop riding a bike instead of a car, or digging through your grocery bag - with no protections - and fining you if you have a pack of biscuits. While not obeying social distancing (they ride all in the same car) or containment measures (masks) themselves.
I even head on national TV an "expert" ranting about people who surf, it was clear his in mind that it was because they were seen having fun and it should not be tolerated in a case of a crisis, without any logical thinking on his part.
Again, I am not in any way justifying this behavior. Just warning you that it will probably happen as the situation drags on, and some authorities will try to find more and more scapegoats to cover their incompetence or just appear to do something. Here in France the government now has provided more fines (250 AUD+ each) than it has provided masks...

This has polarised the community into two camps - those that stay at home and those that don't.

everyone's 'interpretation' of the rules are different.
Someone can go for a run (fine), they can even go in pairs for a bike ride (fine), but throwing a frisbee in that same pair in isolation in a park is not fine..
police are pulling people over in their cars at random to 'prove' where they are going and sending people home.
there is a 'dob in' hotline which has been so overwhelmed people can't get through after waiting 30mins- to 1.5hrs.
it really has turned in to the groups who understand that people need mental health and provided they are social distancing and not harming anyone is fine, and the other group who throw stones from their ivory tower and snitch on everyone to the police.

My son lives in Newcastle and went for a surf this morning , he said there were about ten or so out with no one within 5m of each other, he said police drove in car park had a look and drove off.
For me there's just too many inconsistencies, eg can't go fishing, play tennis with more than one other, but can keep schools and in particular day care centres open, I mean come on if ever there's a breeding/transmitting ground it's kinder/ long day care centres.

My family bubble was out for walk (following social distancing) and coming back through Long bay, a local beach park.
I know the chances of me needing rescue are exceedling small and I can resist the temptation

Here is why it is so confusing.. everyone is ringing up this 'dob in' line and thinking that the police will arrest or stop those breaking the rules ie surfing.
but then this article comes out in the news this morning, suggesting that basically.. they can't do anything if you are social distancing (which is ok).
then you get the government also stating today that 'the internet is for surfing, not the water'.. but yet if you do, the police have no power to stop you or do anything about it providing you are social distancing and have no covid symptoms.

Given he is on his own, I'd let go, and if it is a blanket ban on literally everything on the water Id say on the PA "one more set wave brah and its home time dude." Especially if you don't have the right PPE to arrest, why call in the cavalry?

Since you quote infowars, I don't think you are able to comprehend what you read, but this is literally in what you copypasted: that the lifeguards has told this to the surfers the week before, who just passed them telling them they didn't care as they could not issue citations. And then they couldn't make the groups of walkers disperse because they pointed to the surfers...
So they have no choice than call the cavalery.

I told myself I wouldn't address this thread again but I can't help it. Frankly, it is inevitable that people will refuse to obey an order that goes against everything they have known their whole lives, the freedom to move about and do the things they enjoy.
At some point the governments will be forced to admit they cannot do the risk management for people who have known freedom their entire lives. I know the point of trying to make sure the hospitals are not overwhelmed but I don't think a lot of people really care.
There is only one way to enforce something like this and I don't think outside of a handful of countries, the soldiers would carry out the order. I for one am not going to shoot people who have a constitutional right to assemble. I would simply shake my head inside my CBR suit and wonder how many will die from the virus?
Many on this thread have done the risk assessment for themselves and decided to abide by their governments measures. Others will decide to accept the risks and go against those measures.
At the end of the day it all comes down to a personal choice. I think the real question is how long can society live under these conditions?

Some of us a blessed others not,today I came across a instagram post which was about raising funds for the Balinese who are struggle to feed themselves ,with no government support. We are dead set lucky to live here in Australia and if you can't rack your board for a period of time its a disgrace.

Yes its a great picture that you should have kept to yourself,now be a good person and STAY AT HOME!
Mate there's no one around, take a chill pill people and remember the rules and sub clauses of your own state. No point saying to someone stay at home when their own state government is saying it's ok to surf or jog or walk or fish or whatever.
Had good surf the last 3 days - live in a small coastal village with one turnoff from the highway the only time locals venture onto the highway is to go to Woolies or chemist/doctor. Within the community ( abt 500 people ), there are probably 15 to 20 surfers, these are the only people out at our local breaks - three different beaches available to us. No backpacker/blueberry pickers or even normal travelling surfers - it is much quieter than usual. Social isolation is very easy in these conditions - unlike my daughter in Sydney, home with three young children and home schooling, as well as her and her husband working from home! So I realise that while my lifestyle is still very good, the majority are doing it tough. Accolades to the doctors and nurses, mate's daughter who I have known since a toddler is now a paramedic, she is working huge hours, completely buggered and is at risk! THANKS MEDICAL PEOPLE!
