Look up the guys at www.dolphinsurf.com.au and ask for Simon.
Casso,
I'm also looking at a Minion. Have you compared the Minion to the Gulliver for quality and resale ability?
I've haven't surfed or even seen Gulliver's Minion equivalent. Sorry. The photos of them look good though.
A mate of mine said that he'd seen the minion but was a bit disappointed with the quality of the workmanship. He wasn't specific as to what was underpar in his opinion but the use of the carbon innegra didn't look as good as on the Vbox which he bought. it's the only one i've seen and don't know where I could see a minion for myself. There's a big saving on the minion in $$$$. Hard to see anything that would be worth the extra money of the Vbox. minion looks good in the photos though.
Mark I have seen about 5 minions and have always been amazed at the quality of the finish.
So much so that I will be ordering one in the next couple of weeks...finally!
Still not been able to get over that amazing bottom/top turn they offer, nothing comes close
Hi again guys..have had my 7'8 minion now for a couple of months. Its my go to board in all surf these days. Pretty comfortable on it now ..wandering what other fin set up has anyone tried and the outcome on performance. Can they be set as a thruster? Any ideas welcome. By the way my workmanship on my Minion was mint..could be happier cheers..apologies if these has been answered in previous posts

You said:"He wasn't specific as to what was underpar in his opinion.."Sorry there is not much credibility with this remark. When a person is unhappy with a particularly product to the extent that they have real disappointment then
one could reasonably expect to get details in terms of specificity which leads to this conclusion. In the absence of one I would personally treat this opinion with
a high degree of caution.
Cheers Ozzie
Just noticed I have a small crack on the rail of my Minion (probably a paddle strike) any tips on what to fix it with, have taped it up for now.

Thanks for the reply Danny. I'll be factoring a minion into my budget for the year. Unfortunatley I can't pull the money upfront. The waves never go away and never will my old board.
Start saving Mark. I've sold everything except my 2 sons to make it happen.
Had the pleasure of personalising shape, size, volume, colour etc last night when ordering....stoked!!!

Do you have a photo?

Get it fixed by a reputable board repairer who works with epoxy as soon as possible. I've done a few repairs in the past but they always look crap and don't end up being watertight anyway. Better to get it done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Proper ding tape will be OK for a short while if the crack is small and it isn't in an awkward spot.
No I don't have a photo, it's only a very small crack but will get it fixed professionally - don't want any water to get in.
Thanks for the replies.
hey guys..thought id post a bit of footage of my 7"8 Minion . Surf conditions werent great but a good swell. Still stokedand amping with how ggod these boards are.

On ya Supmaori - rippin' mate.
I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned in this thread, but if it has i apologise. Can anyone advise on how much the minions retail for?

And the service i recieved from Simon was top notch. This is taken with a triple suction mount. Great product as you dont have to fix it permanently. Never moved at all throught this session.
Supmaori,
Really nice upper body movement in that clip. A good example of simple twisting and turning combined with a judicious use of the paddle to create a really positive outcome mate.
Well done.
Ozzie
Hey Supmaori, nice moves, really looking forward to receiving my 7'10" and having some F U N.
Is that a BRLS mount? If so, I have the same and rate it highly.

Less than any style of theses boards that are being manufactured overseas.
In fact, I've not heard of anything costing less.
Couldn't believe JP and Naish are charging so much for theirs.
Just saw two more custom made DEEP short boards delivered to some of the guys down here the other day and the finish on these thing is unreal. Picked one up and light as a feather. Very sweet looking boards!!
Only have to wait a couple more weeks for mine hopefully ![]()
New to this but thought I would add my 2cents worth. I've been using a Minion for the last couple of days. I'm 60, 100kgs, surfed for 45 years and have been using a 9'6" Fanatic Pro at 153 liters which I really rate.
The Minion is 7'10" and 124 liters and no problem. In flat water I think I could paddle as fast if not faster than the Pro. In the surf this morning which was barely 1' with side shore wind and chop it had nearly the same stability as the Pro. There was nothing big enough to really ride but I can already see how easy it is to catch waves and how loose the board is. Swell is due this week so will let you know how it goes

Ok....... Sooooooo how much is that then??
Mine was under $2k Vac bagged as a custom order.
Check out the website for options
The LWCI- Light weight carbon innegra was around $1700 from memory. I've seen the 2nd one ever made used as a demo that would have copped a hammering and no rail damage. VBSC- Vacuum bagged sandwich construction is insurance for this heavy lump
Best to call them for a quote to get all options/actual figures.

Sadly this is a much covered topic but the price difference between what the big names are charging versus what the independants are pricing is
just prohibitive. With a big name comes exponential increases in costing across the board. This why I have made the personal decision to support
the smaller guys.
Thanks Ozzie, Brenno and Casso...the seed was planted here..without this post i would even had known about these great boards..so definitely a big thanks to Simon and you guys.
This board just keeps getting better and better...for those contemplating a switch to a minion..you wont look back. I have was riding an 8"10 Prowave and this has stayed dry ever since i got the minion. I use it in all conditions as it just performs they way i want it to.
Any yip thats a triple suction mount on board..great product..as you dont have to stick it down permanentlu

Nice vid Supmaori,
Good to see your decision to buy without being able to demo payed off for you. Looks like a nice place to surf you've got there.
Ive had my minion for 12 months now and still love surfing it. Can't imagine not having a minion in the quiver.
i just took delivery of the new Jackson Close model, 8'2" x 28 3/4", as an alternative in bigger conditions, so far un-surfed![]()
Anyway, keep the vids coming, love watching them and seeing some of your great beaches in NZ.
Thanks Doc..was definitely a game changer...i think like other guys, getting your head around the length and volume and what your used to riding is the key..once you dial it in its just a great board..by the way..have you surfed it as a thruster or quad without nubster in? If so what difference did you find in performance?
This spot is a good 35min paddle one way, and the minion managed it no problem
Cheers again

No mate, I'm a bit slack like that![]()
I reckon with the wide tail the standard fin set up works really well.
From memory, was it Tang in Victoria that was playing around with fins? He may have a better idea in that regard.
Cheers

Those are some awesome waves you've got there Supmaori. Yeeeew.
