No rear wing/fuselage!?
There is so much the tech inclined can play around with....interesting to watch it all unfold. Maybe that will be the norm in a few years....
Hats off to all the pioneering, test pilot, guinea pigs out there!
Nice, that Will make 4 different wings, 2 defferent fusalges, and 3 different stabilzers all interchangeable for surf. Lot of potential combos to experiment with.
Colas Have you tried the 40cm stabiler yet?
Just FYI, Gong has unveiled his 2nd generation foil-only SUP boards: the "Zuma".
Full PVC sandwich (even on the rails), no carbon, US boxes, recessed deck for lower feet position for better control, beveled rails and kick tail, and a roundish nose for a fast paddle speed for its size
Will ship mid- February (orderable now), 799 euros. 3 sizes: 6'3" 95l, 6'6" 105;, 6'9" 130l
More details at gongsupshop.com/epages/box1707.sf/en_GB/?ViewObjectPath=%2FShops%2Fbox1707%2FCategories%2FFOIL%2FSUPfoil%2FSUPfoil_boards
The Mob 2Taste are "hybrid" SUP boards, usable with or without a foil.
The surf foil boards (3'6" to 5'10") were already available at gongsupshop.com/epages/box1707.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/box1707/Categories/FOIL/Surfoil/Surfoil_boards all being usable as surf or kite foil boards.
As far as I can tell on the web site the rear strap position is waaaaaay behind the foil ???????? what's that about?
Hi colas, when we look at the gong website in Australia it says the prices are inclusive of vat. Does this mean an international purchaser can then deduct vat from the price advertised on the website, a deduction of 20%. If so the prices certainly are very attractive![]()
May I also suggest that gong try to get some ambassadors in capital cities and major surf hubs around Australia. I find it hard to commit to a product that I have never seen in person.
With that said does anyone in the Perth metro area have a gong foil or kite that i can look at ( or perhaps gently fondle)

They remove the VA-Tax in the check out. The 20% savings just about pays the shipping on a foil.
Only just fitted in the shed ! ![]()
I have my shed opposite a path down the side of my house guess what ? its only 90cm away ! I could just get the 80 down the gap - so I now have to take the foil completely apart to get to my Van! Can't wait to get it on the water tomorrow
A buddy has just been bitten by foil bug, borrowing our gear to get started. He needs a SUP and foil. I convinced him that Gong right now is the best deal out there for a combo and he finally bit the bullet and ordered. But then order cancelled: apparentlyGong won't ship SUPs to North America. Heart breaker! ![]()

They do ship to US. Could bea shipping or bank thing. They send message so they can get you the exact shipping. The web site automatically send the EU shipping cost not the oversees cost.
Also sometimes your bank will deny payment oversee flages most cridet cards
Likely ome of those
Appreciate the tip, passed on to my friend, he has the stoke again. Both shipping issue and credit card declined ... so hopefully both can be worked out. Seems odd they would ship to USA but not Canada, but I can pick up for him in USA too if need be. My only problem with helping him out: he'll be better than me in about 10 sessions, and that's gonna hurt. ;-)
I'm currently riding a 2018 Naish Thrust Large, with a WestCoastFoilClub 4'8" and prone surfing. Which size Gongfoil is the prone surf foil?
I'm getting pretty interested in downwind runs. Which size Gongfoil would you suggest for downwind? I realize I'd probably need another board too, been watching craigslist for that.
Oh yeah, I'm 6'1" and 185#.
The SUP and prone surf foils are exactly the same. They come in M (70cm) L (80cm) XL (90cm) and XXL (100cm). for the main wing. There is only one stab size.
Basically, for lightweights (<80kg) M is for surfing and XL for downwinding, otherwise L + XXL. But of course it depends on technique and intended use, etc...
So I guess that for you, the XXL would be the downwind choice.
For ease of pumping, you can put a kitefoil stab (they come in 2 sizes: 40 and 45cm), but it is not advised for learning, it is noticeably less stable and more dangerous (sharper edge). I dont know if it would help in downinding.
Thanks Colas. That's disappointing. The radness in this deal was that the package pricing means more or less means the foil is free, relative to what other packages cost. My buddy is starting out, overwhelmed by options, and will probably end up seeking a package deal from somewhere. The foils alone are a pretty good deal, I don't know if he'll be convinced.
BTW, surface areas of wings from Gong site: cm2 projected/developed
L: 1642/1926
XL: 1844/2137
XXL: 2175/2487
I think I solved the zuma footstrap placement question - the xxl allvator definitely flies better with your rear foot well behind the mast ( is this a thing with bigger foils?) common sense tells me that the pumping action will work better if you see-saw either side of the mast.

Or is it either side of the center of lift which may be different?

Didn't try the XXL wing yet, but yes, all people having them said they had to adjust their position to fly with them compared to the smaller ones.
I know Beryl puts his rear foot before the mast to pump on take off, then puts it behind for turning. Also he unweights his rear foot a lot on pumping, only the toes are touching the board at times.
Has anyone gone back and forth from the 70cm to the 80cm to compare the two? I'm prone foiling and want the 80cm but am worried I'll miss the size and maneuverability of my current wing Naish Large, which is comparable to the 70 cm.

I was going between 60 and 70 a while back..I thought it was all positive on the bigger mast, less breach more glide, more pump.
im in some very marginal shallow water though and the 10cm meant extra ploughing of the reef whilst paddling
Clamsmasha, Hdip was speaking of the wing size (span).
Hdip, I don't know, I haven't used the Naish. It depends on your weight and conditions I guess.
I encourage you to ask the question on the Gong forum, maybe some people here have compared the 2 wing sizes.

Ah yes, sorry it all makes sense now.
Any possible comparaison with the GO FOIL Maliko ?
I am interested in the Gong Foil but I am worried about the tail that is not elevating like the one on the Maliko
any opinion ? Does the GO Foil configuration mean you ll fly earlier with less speed ?

Why do you you think that about the Gong horizontal stab? The Gong stabilizer looks to have about 5-8 degrees of angle to help provide AOA lift.
That mean it lift as much as the Go Foil ?
No it doesn't mean that. They could have simular lift... but surface area, shape and angle... all effect the leveraging force on the front wing. Then you also have the AOA of the front wing...
Also the Allvator has 3 different stabilizers that could fit.
Angle Of Attack. Look it up. It has to do with the front wings stationary position in relationship to the fusalge and...

That is angle of incidence.
AOA is the angular displacement of the wing's chord line and the flow of the water.
ill be able to give you a comparison between Maliko and Gong in the next week or two....

I have the naish' large and the 80 - very different beasts the gong is not as smooth - maybe just size - it feels every bubble in the surf where the Nash cuts thru . It's still a lot of fun tho and can carve nicely. It is slower but not excessively so.
