That's a great vid Beasho - just shows you can take off on a lump. I am not missing anything am I - there is no wave face when you are taking off? (What was under the water at the start of your video?)
10 sessions, eh? OK, I need to get back in the water, 8 to go!

The GoPro is flattening the wave at Take Off. It's actually a 4 to 5 foot A Frame that jumps up between the rocks. It then immediately softens to almost nothing. The animal at the beginning was a sizable Stingray.

This crash sequence shows the wave behind me, even if just for a brief instant.
Remember objects in the GoPro are closer than they appear.
Headed down to Byron Bay yesterday , to catch a few of the big fats ones. Cleaned up a few times but heaps of fun.

Had a great time at Surfest 2018 riding for Surefire Boards on the 9'0" Whiplash. New custom 7'11" VANDAL is on its way in a week.

Thanks - that makes sense, I guess you need something to take off on.
Here's a new foil never seen it before and a ripping young grom pumping back out through whitewash pretty cool.
Here is an example of a Steep Takeoff on an Overhead Wave in less than perfect conditions with the foil board.

Use Heavy Front Foot and remember FOILING IS EASY you just need time on the water.
I just finished watching "Take every wave" and the last wave of the film almost put a tear in my eye because it was soooooo so so good..
Laird foiling on a HUGE ocean swell for~ever.. Out in the open ocean and I think the helicopter goes around him at least half a dozen times filming as he surfs (foils) the one massive wave.. Amazing.. ![]()

Dave Kalama on straps for foiling:
Do you need straps? No
Are there advantages? Absolutely!
These are not necessary, but I recommend them!

Not sure. More like a 80s pro surf event with all the pumping going on ![]()

Another fun day at Byron , 20 knot offshore tuff paddle in's but heaps of fun. New camera the Garmin Virb 30 with speed stats .
Another fun day at Byron . .
Great video Piros.
Your stance has me freaked out. I was watching and trying to center my feet. It looks like your front and rear foot are significantly Off-Center line.
I can not fly like that. I get the wobbles. The ball of my front foot has to be dead center. You barely have the tip of your front toe. This snap shot has me thinking your about to crash but you keep on going.

Awesome work mate. That camera is crystal clear!! How do you mount it to your board?
Also, what's the difference between your foil and your mate's foil? He seems to be pumping to keep up and you just motor through.
Beasho
Yeah my feet are way offset never noticed until I started filming myself . That's why I don't use straps just could never get comfortable , few of my mates are also offset. Feels much better carving big turns. Plus you get more drive when you pump because your knees aren't one behind each. That's just my opinion not saying you should do it but works for me.

We were both on same Kai Go Foils, can't see in the video but it's a 20 knot offshore my board was smaller than Guys catching less wind plus I'm about 15 kg heavier so have a bit more momentum. I also push my weight forward through my knees this puts more pressure on the front wing and gives more drive . I use the big go pro stick on and the GP goose neck which I have extended and put a safety lanyard right through , it does break free so you need it but just clicks back together.
Heres one more tow in foiling with the Garmin cameras. Really loving these cameras giving so many different angles. This opening shot is from the Garmin 360 cam mounted on front of the board the moment before the tow rider Chris Percy is pulled by the tow rope , very cool
I'm using both the Garmin VIRB 360 & Ultra 30 in this video. The Ultra 30 is the GoPro 5 equivalent but has a ton of geo stats like speed , G-force , tracking & map overlay. The 360 has it as well but haven't quite got my head around overlaying the data on 360 vision.
An excellent day at box head this week (well two actually). This was one of my longest waves on the second day, unfortunately the first day was better but I didn't have my phone on me. Still pretty good though.
And the swell totally disappears. Time to strap on the XL. There was basically nothing breaking and I was reluctant to go out, but after two epic days at box I needed to warm down. Here's a sample of riding nothing on the Thrust XL (I seem to go nearly as fast pumping as I do on the swell).
Flat Foil.
Not the longest wave for the session, but a lot of fun getting some turns in on a cruisey one.
