Nice video with wide drone views of James Casey at Waikiki, Surf foiling then SUP foiling. James left some falls in the edits, which is always interesting.
Here's a few fun ones from Sunday's Foil Bay Session. It was soo tiny, but the Hover 120 and Thrust Surf Large made easy work of it and gave me some fun glides.
James Casey and Kai both made 11 waves in the same run. Kai is out of this world... hang five, feet drag, sitting...
Note also how Kai often rides on the crest of the wave, he is using a long mast and tapping the wave energy deep down...

James is on the GoFoil 600mm mast with big low aspect wings . Still produced 11 wave turn around . Kai has been pushing the boundaries on larger waves up to 900mm mast on high aspect wings . If you want to go fast and big you have to drop wing size plus you need some extra length in the mast to avoid high impact touch downs through the troughs. His 11 wave ride the mast looks around 700mm on maybe his new mid/large sized wing. Yes longer can be better for the pump but on to tiny boards in small clean waves . You will do the same on a stock mast and larger wing as long as you have the ability and fitness.
Longer mast make it easier to ride higher but also increases the chance of a fall. Kai is at the top end of the spectrum and for now let him go IMHO he will produce the next punter all round model and don't go bolting on longer mast . Stick with what you have got and do the time . Keep your 55cm to 65cm mast curved front wings which is top of the list on all YouTube views.I've been riding a lot of foils and the flat wings are good for speed , lack in lift and drop badly on an over foil , the curved wings lets you ride high without dropping , they gurgle on the surface like an alarm bell letting you catch it , Kai's front wing is curved .
ability and fitness.
Yes, I think the fitness component should not be underestimated. Pumping is incredibly exhausting, although I guess that with perfect technique it becomes less taxing, like in all sports.
I say this because I begin to have people asking me for advice for foil gear, and by discussing with them, they are beginner/intermediate SUPers on 12' boards and they think that with a foil they will be able in no time to get back to the peak pumping and connecting multiple waves... I guess we are going to see a lot of disappointment on the water this summer...
A couple from my last few days of holidays (sorry about the quality of the vids - still trying to work out the Soloshot settings)...
Epic session today at the Ally sitting super wide milking the small rollers. Tested out my new fixed pole mount with Dale Chapman and if you want a serious leg work out try going pump for pump with Starboard Pro rider Beau O'Brian to keep him in the shot. All 3 of us on the Go Foil IWA and just had a ball. Hope you enjoy the video.
An interesting SUP foil video by Kauli Seadi (Windsurfing pro):
- We see him actually surfing the waves, in the sense of reading the fickle, messy bumps and adapting his trajectories to them. In my opinion, this is the essence of surfing: reading the elements and adapting to them, whatever the craft. Surfing is not defined by shortboard contests score cards. And no need to pump.
- We can see all the work he is doing by moving his body weight constantly, even if the feet do not move. It is more visible than with more seasoned foil experts like Kai or Zane.
Here's a quick one. It was such a fun session, but the video doesn't really give it justice.
Super small waves, barely breaking. <1m.
Naish Hover Surf 120
Naish Thrust Surf Large (set all the way forward and with 1mm of rear wing lift, and on customer 65cm mast)
Enjoy

Great work with the camera in any case! I do not like GoPro vids usually, but you manage to make us feel "to be here".
Great video of Casso on the Sunova 7-4 Sup / Foil 2 in one. Free supping then Tuttle & track mount foils.
Already posted look above one
Nah - it's a different one. The full session of one of those three segments.
Messy session yesterday towing in on the Lift 150 Sup foil. Very twitchy and hard to keep down in the speed and bumps , will try the Lift 110 kite foil today with the 900 mast , should hold a lot better to reduce the floggings.![]()
Dave and Austin Kalama are visiting Florida, and their videos in crappy onshore conditions are mind boggling. For me, it is much more impressive than seeing them in gently rolling hawaiian perfect (compared to Florida) waves. Going out in these onshore winds with a 6'2" (Dave) and a 4'11" (Austin) SUP...
PS: Note the centered position. On the last vid, Austin feet are even closer to the nose than to the tail... His setup is designed around the foil, not anymore around a traditional surfing position. Quite a feat for a SUP that you paddle standing up.

Nice drone video of Jeff Clark sup foiling ocean beach, san fran. Sure makes it looks fun! Though getting caught by white water in a wave that size killed my sup foil mount.

That looks unreal!!! I cant think of anything that would be more fun then hug fat rollers like that! you guys are killing it Piros!!
Bit of fun today playing around on my new Kalama Sup Foil board with my home made Bungy rope , this is a few of our first runs.
The Royal Flight - Walking on the Sun in Northern California
Riding 250 yards on 2 foot waves complete with Salt-Arms from not falling in. Last weekend, in smaller surf, I had a day on the Maliko 200 with an average ride length of 230 yards.
What is amazing is that with ONLY 6 months of experience I would be considered a TOTAL BEGINNER in any other sport. Foiling is NOT HARD TO LEARN you just have to get over:
1) The cost
2) The first 10 sessions
See the picture below for how I am flying the Un-Surfable stretch between the rocks. On small days sure you can just keep catching 250++ yard rides inside or you can go further outside, catch some bigger lumps, fly the rocks and increase the fun-factor.
PS: These are the same rocks that symbolize death on a typical Mavericks day. Getting flushed through these rocks is a very risky situation.
EY's has been SUP'd and surfed for many years. It is a cut in the rocks that we jokingly say only 'Extreme Kayakers' would ever dare to take off and try to surf.
The Foils Only Flight Path is 100% unmake-able on any other water craft unless the waves have 8 to 10 foot faces. At that size you put yourself at serious risk of hitting the rocks to the right of Extreme Yackers (South Mouse Palm Island).
I found that on the foil in smaller surf I can get up and fly a small A frame peak, cut right between the rocks and reconnect with the swell that the other guys are trying to catch 200 yards inside. In smaller conditions on the foil the risk is reduced to 'medium risk.' :)
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!!!!!!
