GOFoil vs Axis Foil

Camarillo the 920 and especially the 1020 are really good pump wings , you won't find a magic pump cure in the 900 or 1000 if you are not pumping those . Pumping is a lot more technique than you think , it's not just the wings. You need to practice pulling off the wave much earlier with more speed to try and get that pump flow. The higher aspect wings are faster and easier to pump (with speed) but with a much smaller sweet spot making them harder to use at first . Get the pump action wrong and they will collapse quickly where as the 1020 will still glide through. So for now just cut your ride way short and get off with speed and go for a link up , that's the best pump training , that and the dreaded dock starts , once you nail a dock start pumping really comes together fast in the waves . The Axis 1020 is the best Dock start wing around , so practice on that. New wing wise expect to see new surfing wings & Carbon mast from Axis , still aways off yet & NP are added high aspect to their wing range but they will be next year.

I think the whole mast stiffness thing is a little over rated. I have used the M280 on both the go foil 24.5 and 29.5 masts. The 29.5 mast is a fair bit stiffer due to the wider chord. On the 24.5 mast and you can feel it flexing quite a lot when your paddling around but once you lift up on the foil I couldn't notice the difference at all to be honest.

I've got both the 90 & 100 , I'm only proning now & just not using the 100 the 90 is all I need. The two wings are basically identical except the 100 is obviously 50mm wider in the tips only each side. So they are really similar no point in having both. If I was still Sup Surf Foiling I'd keep the 100 but I'm not just 100% on the prone. They are so hard to get and in such high demand , it's hard to justify to keep it and not be using it , better to let someone else froth on it.

For 80-85kg +riders 100% , lighter guys will get away with 900 , remember it's only 1277cm2 the 100 is 1388cm2 that's why I like the 90 so much on the prone.

Nothing else in the Axis range has the speed and pump ability of the 90 or 100. The 820 is just slower and doesn't turn better . Once you ride any of the new high aspect wings you won't go back to your old wings . The 75 is their best surf wing and best turning wing plus pretty fast but doesn't have the pump of the 90 or 100.

Don't get mislead by the lack of cm2 in these wings. It's the reduction in surface area and the thinner narrower design that makes these wings so fast and extra lift , which means you'll glide through dead sections of water compared to the fatter thicker and bigger low aspect wings. Speed is king it just makes everything easier and way more fun.

Just my 2 cents on all of this and to also throw the Takuma in the mix as its one i have been riding and comparing to the likes of the Axis 900.

I have ridden the 900 quite a bit also i down wind a lot with Ben here who uses the 900 and on the foiling side of things we are pretty even. For me i hate the 900 in the surf i feel its turns are average at best, if you are getting this wing for surfing then it works but there are far better out there. It does pump around nice and easy to link waves if you hold your speed the real down side is once you drop below a certain speed it drops way to easy. On the down wind side its not the easiest wing to get up but once up it is quite nice and can hold some good speed.
Now comparing to the Takuma i ride which and for this comparison i will compare it to the 1600 which surfs 100 times better, the turns you can do on the Takuma you would blow the wing out on the 900. Pumping around is pretty similar but for me the big difference is the low speed the Takuma can also do and i have by far my longest continuous linking wave session on this wing. For Down wind it gets up far easier than the 900 and top speed is pretty close to the 900 with maybe the Takuma a little quicker. I could also compare it to the 1300 wing but this wing is way quicker than the 900 and surfs way tighter so kind of thinking the 1600 and 900 are the ones that are best to compare.

Build quality Axis are solid and do a great job, Takuma i ride is the carbon mast which is nice and it all works, IMO the Takuma wings are some of the very best on the market right now and for a set up that will do it all they have it over most of the others, they still have a few small issues but if comparing wings TAkuma kills it

Gofoil i have raced against Austin Kalama and their new wing looked good, pretty sure he was on the 180 and we were pretty much dead even for 12km of the 12.5km race, in the world of racing though all the production wings are to slow still but i am sure this will change over some time. Can't say much more than this as i would need to ride them more to make a fair comment.

The Takuma wings sound nice.

But until someone matches the Axis mast in stiffness, I'll stay in the Axis camp.

I don't think cutting the tips on the 900 would be good. It needs more cord to compensate.

Yes it is but not to the extent of the Axis ,it's the same width as the 100 but still much deeper cord 1964cm2 compared to the Axis 1388 cm2 . It has a lot more bottom end lift though but not the speed . It's great for getting up and going for DW and wingding but more compared to the Axis 1020 at 2051cm2

What are the dimensions of the GL 180, 210, 240 ?

I have used the axis 900 and 1000 and the GL180 all sup surfing and the GL180 prone. They surf pretty similar but found the 900 better to surfs than the 1000. The longer chord gives the GL180 a little more lift at lower speeds where the 900 and 1000 stalls a bit more. I surf the GL180 all time now (sup and prone) and don't find any negatives in terms of HA turning vs the old wings, just way more pump and speed but would not suggest they are good for learning. Havent used signature. Prefer the overall go foil carbon mast, build and total weight a little better feel than the axis but can't agrue they are popular.
