Back to the front wing fitting issue. I tried the wax solution and it works ok with the RS1300, but it does not work with the GT2200. After a 2 hours downwind (learning) and a lot of movement the wing was loose and the screw was also loose. Now I'm back to the gofoil stickers and hammering the wing, which is a pain.
Does the 2200 hit the end of the tongue? If so, you can trim the foil a touch so it can go deeper onto the tongue.
Agreed. Sand here till the inside of the joint connects when you tap it in place with the mallet. I took probably 4mm off both my RS wings and they are much happier. 2 firm taps with the the mallet on a CLEAN connection takes it on and off.
this waxing the connection BS is giving me anxiety. Besides picking up sand and the wear it's going to give the appearance of a stiff connection when subjected to a finger wiggle but have even more movement when subjected to foiling forces.
Won't you end up with the same problem again later when the connection wears ?

Yes for a while, but even if the joint was waterproof so no fine sand could get in the connection would still wear again with the carbon rubbing on carbon tapping the wings on and off with a mallet. BTW I don't know of any perfect solution to this type of connection...The barrel bolt is probs the best option at the present
Regarding fitting your foil to your mast, I have settled on the RS1150 and my 93cm mast as my everyday kit. That kit fits together perfectly. My GL240 foil is a very tight fit.
I started sanding away the inside of the GL240 socket but I was not happy just randomly rubbing and hoping for the best. I tried a process we used to call blueprinting in my DIY engineering days. Old mechanics and engineers will know all this but people foiling might not have the background.
I didn't have any marking blue so I used a highlighter pen and coloured in the tapered spline on the mast and let it dry. I did only two adjacent sides to save time and ink. I then fitted the foil securely and removed it. The tight spots scraped away the dried ink and showed the thin end of the taper was where the tight spot was. It is then easy to sand the inside of the foil (or the tip of the spline) to get a perfect fit.

Yup I prefer ftl14 for wing and fts for surf foil.

FTS = prone / sup, tight turns, adequate pitch stability for surf
FTL = wing in flat water or waves, drawn out turns, more controllable in pitch
I think that the reason the extra pitch stability of the longer tail feels so much better on the wing is because the variability of the load in your hands that does not exist for surf foiling.

Long term Gofoil user here and I agree with your comments. The only things that I think could be better are the base plate washers need to be stainless as the painted aluminium ones corrode pretty quickly. The base plate bolts could be Torx (I changed mine and prefer Torx over Phillips); and the covers fall apart pretty quickly. Of course none of these things affect the on water experience and are all very minor annoyances.
Considering making the jump or at least diversifying to compare. Looking for some guidance from all ya'll experts on the best course forward.
Found an older Tuttle mast new/unused listed; looking for input on if there's any concerns on older versions vs current (understand there is a new mast design just released).

Hey I have the old tuttle mast (70cm) for low tide & a newer plate one (75cm) and they are both excellent, actually I might compare the the old tuttle mast to Armstrong a1 in stiffness but faster I think & the old wings are good for fun and sanding etc, but the new wings are light & fast:-)
I had an original GoFoil Tuttle mast back in the day. It works. With a plate adaptor you get mast around 75cm. The newer gen 1.5 and now v2 mast are much stiffer. They have a wider mast chord and I think the mast section profile is thicker by a few millimetres. I think the old tails are now very much retired. Things have moved on. If you wanna dip your toe into GoFoil for a cheap price then the mast will work. I'm slowly building a Personal GoFoil demo centre of wings and tails. Some secondhand older front foils picked up for $200each and some home made tails. My Daily driver is the RS1000 for winging and GT2200 for Sup. Plenty of other great foil gear is out there from other brands. However, I enjoy the simplicity of Hammering it together and Go Foil.

Having it forward helps me get on foil when dinging and turning on small waves, the board feels livelier with less swing weight, but I am 105kg so it will not be the same for lighter riders.

I have the new mast and did not move it back 2 inches. AA says 1 inch but I only moved it back 1/2 an inch and it worked well with the RS1075 but the GT1250 may need it the full inch back.
I find dinging not so critical for mast position. DW paddling and sup surfing is more so. I have the new v2 mast and have used it DW paddle on the kalama 6'1" and 5'9" and moved the mast back one inch from where I had placed the V1 (as per Alex recommendation) and found the balance is perfect for me. This is with the 80cm mast, FTS14,5 and RS1150. I have no doubt the RS1300 will be good too as my mast position between these two wings I set the same.
Verdict on new mast?
The original mast is very good this is a refinement. A little faster, turns better, smoother and glides further with the lower drag.
I have the original mast with a "A" logo and mainly use it for sup f. Is the V2 mast significantly stiffer? thanks
