Been meaning to fix some leaking penetrations in the deck. Rather than just sika flex the bolts again I decided I would pot the deck with epoxy to seal any timber in the core from further moisture should the sika fail again at some point in the future. No evidence of any rot so happy with that.

In relation to the above, when I re bed the track I am thinking of using butyl tape instead of a sealant like sika, any thoughts? any one bedded deck hardware using butyl?
When I redid my H28, all the deck hardware was done with Butyl tape, I would highly recommend it, It doesn't set and remains flexible, it does however stick to everything, clean up with white spirit.
Fixed auto pilot. 1st solo spinnaker. All of 4 knots breeze!
...Previous owner(s) placed a block on Spinn Halyard at top of Genoa (about 1-1.5Ft below where the Halyard exits the mast, not sure i am a fan of it (spinn to low but also sock gets caught)

The head office of Yanmar in Victoria is Power Equipment Pty Ltd, 10-12 Commerical Drive, Lynbrook tel 9709 8500. Best to ring them first rather than turn up to buy, as they are a wholesaler and prefer to deal with dealer/agents/mechanics, but will do pick-ups if you give them time. (I bought a Yanmar YSM8 head off them but they weren't happy that I just turned up - they wanted time to process it through the warehouse.)
I think I still have a spare starter motor and alternator from a Drofin 12HP motor in the shed. It's on your way home, on the South Eastern/Monash Fwy near Blackburn Rd.
all good phil...got a new water pump on backorder two weeks wait. all other minor servicing parts available but major items for yanmar ysm 8 getting bit scarce. My 8 has done 2500 hours so a bit left in this little baby. will nurture along for now. Pump $900 pulley $90. Ouch. going to newhaven next week get serial numbers. Great sailing weather here in portland now.
A day of fitting collars today.
Firstly to the base of the mast to take another couple of turning blocks due to my ditching single line reefing in favour of additional luff pull down lines. Had a spare piece of mast section and got someone to make it up into a collar.
Secondly a couple of small collars either side of the wheel as there was a little bit of irritating movement fore and aft at the circumference of the wheel due to it only being held on its keyed shaft by a small circlip retainer at the front and a nut at the back. The shaft and key or wheel bore have probably worn a bit over the years. New collars seem to have eliminated the movement.




Finished transferring my torqeedo set up from my previous yacht to my newer one. It worked fantastically on my previous yacht as a low wind/no wind quiet propulsion method and controls via a detachable remote throttle mounted on my binnacle and steers via the rudders.
It also demounts to act as my dingy outboard with it's regular steering throttle arm. It neatly stores on my pushpit carrying plate seen here to the left of the open stern access seat for both trailering and heavy weather sailing.
The newer outboard version Imexus is now extensively fitted out for very extended live aboard style cruising with a large solar array and all onboard systems including cooking, refrigeration and hot water now all electric via Lithium Power banks connected into the shore power system. With only very limited use of the big outboard for occasional quick runs to cover and the odd rivermouth bar crossings and similar we are now capable of staying out for several months without resupply. Also recently added a large asymmetrical spinnaker with launch retrieval sock. Just possibly looking to upgrade our small watermaker at some time but struggling with the cost and the right selection of an appropriate upgrade.

Looks like the outboard alone is over 16 grand and over 170 kilos
Chain sawed some trees down that were overhanging my driveway in the morning to make head room then drove from the North side of Sydney to Cann River where I am sleeping in the back of my Challenger before another 3 hours and 20 minutes to pick up my new (to me) Austral Clubman 8 tomorrow :) :).
Wapiti got lifted this morning for some maintenance over the next week, on the to do list

Prosp speed and grease prop bearings
Some under water epoxy work on the keel and skeg where the fairing bog has come un stuck from the stainless steel
Cut and polish hull
Sand and seal toe rails
Change over two large gate valves in the Cockpit drains
Remove quadrant and get a broken bolt that snapped the head off removed and replaced
Time amd weather permitting another coat of semco on the teak

That's an impressive, large cruising yacht!!

Oxalic acid washed the cockpit, vacuumed the cabin, received my Coles online order, vinegar-treated veges, apportioned meat, then froze.

Second day of the 3 day trip from Sydney to Airlie. Towed her from Tweed Heads to Rockhampton and sleeping in her for the 2nd time. Quite tight with two adults and a child plus the boom, fully battened main, 1.5m solar panel and other gear inside.
Had her nearly a month and haven't had a chance to put her in the water yet. Worked on her flat out every day since purchace turning her from a racing day sailer to a cruising boat plus a few mods like stiffening the foredeck which worked out really well.
Airlie tomorrow but rain bomb predicted for a couple of days so may not launch immediately. Joined the sailing club there so can launch plus leave the boat and/or trailer there. Judging by the single plaque in the boat it has been to Hamilton Island Race week previously despite being in Victoria for the last 11 years.
Thanks for the update.. Getting a boat up to scratch is a lot like home renovations...The benifit of having the boat in your backyard would be handy..Not like my 42km trip each way and you don't want to forget to bring a certain tool..Lol
The beauty of towing the boat up there, means you get there a lot quicker than sailing to Airlie and you can camp in it along the way..
Good to see your living the dream and once you get there, you have a somewhat relaxing holiday.Enjoy!

Starting to remember things I forgot a bit more than 42km back. Boathook is first but not too expensive.
I should have brought my little 3.3 outboard for the dingy too as I think I was too optimistic thinking I would row my poor handling high drag flat bottom inflatable. So much weight in the car already tho. Oh well guess I will find a way.

Been a huge week of boat jobs on the hardstand, nearly finished. Gotta give a shout out to JSA Marine at RQYS, they have been super helpful with pro tips and advice, even lent me tools to get the work done faster and easier. They supplied and applied propspeed cheaper than I could have bought the kit for, in doing they spotted a problem with my cutlass bearing I was unaware of. It was separating due to a foreign material getting caught in it and over heating it. Net result was a new cutlass bearing supplied and fitted today.
Only 4 people in Australia get to work on the boats and JSA is one of them.
Two generations now of excellent service.
The others are David Glen also at RQYS, RM Marine in Tasmania and Boty and Joe Walsh in Sydney for rigging.
After a big week she was put back in Friday afternoon, and now sitting at anchor enjoying the fruits of my Labor.

Definitely faster after a polish, probably a freshly painted bottom helps too. Yes kept at RQ.

I watched a Youtube channel of a Clansman 30 full refit...Every deck fitting was re bed with butyl.
I have re set the leaking traveller on our Cav 30 using the same. Worked a treat.
Well, When attempting to drive into my pen Saturday I crashed into the back of the bloody boat I share the pontoon with. Don't ask . My neighbours boats pushpit is more like a flipping great bull bar so no damage to him whatsoever. Pulpit bent back to the forestay so with diligent use of a 6" G clamp managed to pull it forward somewhat. I like the contours so might leave it .![]()

Ouch. Personally despite whatever the cost is I would get it fixed because it's a particularly obvious reminder of something you'd rather forget.
Yes I'll try and straighten it a bit more before taking it off for repair . Nothing worse than having it repaired only to find it will not go back on.
