I am leaving Seabreeze after 10 or so years of enjoyable banter on all matters sailing. I think I have been able to contribute something and have learnt a lot.
The banter is no longer about sailing and has become a forum for pushing agendas. Not just the Greta Thunberg rubbish but it has raised the issue to the top.
I have been guilty of it too, political and religious issues do raise passions. An old Navy saying, leave politics and religion outside the Mess comes to mind.
Maybe I'm just over it, like my good mates Havefun and DrRog who I met on here and went to Lord Howe with. They left some years ago.
Get back to sailing guys and girls.
Leave the Armageddon climate religion stuff to another forum. It is worth discussing but not here.
Cheers.
One of the hardest things to do is keep your ego in check. Nothing wrong with having a healthy ego but don't let it become your weakness as soon as it gets knocked
MB you should be like me, I only read and comment on subjects that interests me. Don't even open the crap like Greta what ever her name. She is nothing more than someone that has been put on a pedestal by social media and it is politically correct to agree with her. MB as with all social media, there is still a lot of good stuff, just dismiss the crap.
You know chucking the towel in, in a dramatic way publically gives you little credit in the future MB. You have crossed the line of no return and if you come back then people will think you are spineless. Whatever the reason is why sink so low to let a few words and anonymous faces sting your feelings? People have very different views in the world and there will always be one person who never likes you. Why let that person ruin your fun?
I agree with J5. Just do what makes life fun and enjoyable.

I think that's unduly harsh criticism MB. There are 50 threads on the front page, 2 are non sailing related, that's about 4% non sailing related topics. That's actually pretty remarkable.
It's not good form for one to run around a yacht club telling people to keep their conversations to sailing, nor should one do the same thing here, if you don't like it just don't read it. Engaging with different sailors is one of life's precious gifts, them having opinions or a story on something random is something I can not only live with, I most often actually enjoy reading (sans politics and religion, that's another story).
All the very best to you.

My thoughts exactly Shaggy!
Haven't read the Greta thread at all as there is simply no point as I know it will make me annoyed, so I don't read it!
Sailing Anarchy and pretty much any other forum from a broad cross section of the community is the same.
In fact, if a thread bothers you enough to leave, how do you leave the house at all?!
Anyways, best of luck to you!
I for one look forward to your posts , on a forum you need everyone from noobs to highly experienced ocean sailors. This forum through its collective brains trust eased my fears eneogh to cast off the anchor line and head north up the coast on a great adventure. Sorry to see you go , but you can come back after a hiatus.
+1
Logged back on to sign off.
See ya all it's been a good ride.
Just read a pm from Shaggy that made me realise my above post was a bit rude .
I apologise especially as this forum has helped me get through the worst three years of my seventy six .( Cost me a few quid along the way as well, boat $) . I have gone from prostate cancer op. to Temporal Artritis which treatment to save eyesight and life was mega dosages of immune suppressants for two years whose side effects have been ,loss of bone and muscle density , paper thin skin, shingles, blocked heart artery( stent) ,internal bleeding ,scarring of lungs and the list goes on . Just when I thought I was out of the woods feeling like a new man after intensive gym. three weeks ago a bilateral inguinal hernia op.
So thanks everyone keeping me interested in what I love most.
Jeez Banana that's some list. We all cop a bit of flack as we age but I think you've had more than your fair share.
Reading between the lines I think MB has been ready to back off for a little while now. Putting his boat
up for sale is an indication that a lifestyle change is needed and good luck to him on that, if he feels like
he's stagnated then he has to move on, perhaps he can move over to thrashing around in his TR6 and
leave the endless boat maintenance behind. The Greta Thunberg thing could just be the last straw.
Thanks for your input on my hilairious beginners sailing attempts MB it was comforting to know I had
access to someone as knowledgeable as you. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
I often read this forum but seldom post. I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on 'all things sailing' for years. I will miss your contributions, but a bloke has got to do what a bloke has got to do. All the best.....
I think there is a warning here for the administrators. Don't let posts on a sailing forum stray too far away from the core subject especially into areas where personal jibes are common. Matters of belief such as politics and religion belong elsewhere. I rarely look at Sailing Anarchy because of the clutter of self aggrandisement, personal abuse etc. However, I note they separate topics like Greta and Brexit to make it easy for those who do not wish to go there.
Fair winds MB

I think the admin are spread a bit thin on seabreeze. Its easy for them to miss a thread thats strayed too far from the original intent and turned political.
i know you lot like to keep to yourselves and out of heavy weather (i've seen a couple of threads on here that really should've gone to heavy weather), but this is exactly why heavy weather exists, to keep the forums relevant to what they're about and stop people getting bent out of shape on political talk when they generally wouldn't come on here for that.
maybe let laurie know if a thread has taken a wrong turn?
And there you have it fokes
this thread has now strayed
MB was just being polite and letting every one know he was done. ........
Well Im not going to abandon a forum with a wealth of shared knowledge that has helped me, and conract with others with a shared enjoyment of sailing. If us sailors actually have opinions thats great and I dont care if they are different. I might learn something ![]()
Hi MB
That is if you haven't left the room yet.
This forum is amazing and the information traded if very valuable. I don't post much and I don't read anything that doesn't interest me.
Your passive-aggressive exit is classic of persons not happy with the way some forums trend.
If you don't like it don't read it.
The forum will be porer for your departure as your input is valued as is input from others.
Regards Scott
To steal a saying my wife uses (modified for more appropriate use here)
People come to Seabreeze for a Reason a Season or a Lifetime.
Reason- to find out some information or just curious and then they're gone.
Season- there may be a lifestyle or interest change. You may just get bored or fed up or feel you've outgrown the community
Lifetime- Some of us are just gonna be like rusted on keel bolts.
It is unfortunate to loose anyone from here. Regardless of the squabble.... None of us are infallible.
exactly what CN said.
Sorry to see you go MB, but same deal here.
I really only flick over the sailing page, and after working all day have no inclination being drawn into arguments over stuff you really have no control over.
Thanks for the posts and advice given by you MB, and others who have given your collective experiences.
My posts are comparatively few,but I've gleaned some good tips for you all, and hopefully been able to contribute something back in a small way.
Hope MB and everyone gets some time onboard over the christmas break.
Well MB
I haven't logged on for ages, but you were one who encouraged me so much when I was a newbie sailor.
So thankyou for that. All the best.![]()

Human conversations are a bit like that - one thought sparks another and, before you know it, you're somewhere else. This forum does a pretty good job of separating the various areas and staying reasonably on subject.
The Brexit issue over here (I'm temporarily in the UK) is a bit of a nightmare on the sailing forums. There are real sailing issues that need discussing as sailors frequently move between European countries and no-one has a clue how things will work in practice. However, the possibilty of discussions straying - and descending into squabbling - is ever present. At least Seabreeze doesn't have that.
Good luck MB.
Cheers

I have been guilty of it too, political and religious issues do raise passions. An old Navy saying, leave politics and religion outside the Mess comes to mind.
Maybe I'm just over it, like my good mates Havefun and DrRog who I met on here and went to Lord Howe with. They left some years ago.
Get back to sailing guys and girls.
Leave the Armageddon climate religion stuff to another forum. It is worth discussing but not here.

Might be his last post but it is a post non sailing related! A bit ironic perhaps. Also seems to push his own political agenda as in "GretaThurberg RUBBISH" and " Armageddon climate religion stuff".
I happen to believe that climate change issues and the young generation voices that bring these to the forefront of debate are a valid sailing related topic.
All you grumpy old right wing intolerant males are more than welcome to pull your collective heads in.

developing the capacity to disagree in a respectful manner and yet continue to listen, relate and communicate with each other is an essential stage in our evolution as a species. without it we are lost.

So true fish monkey . This post was started as a goodbye / he's had enough type thread. It was dormant and fading into the depths of the web ( as it should ) . Until frant decided to bring the goodbye post back to life . And have a final dig at some sections of the communities. My suggestions to frant are fair and reasonable in the circumstances.

The point Sands is that that one cannot make a political post without expecting a response. Mine was that there are some grumpy old right wing intolerant males on the forum. You of course had to respond with a call of wannabe left wing muckracker! If you want the thread to fade away don't insist on the last barb! Your challenge is to respectfully accept my opinion on climate change without resource to name calling.

So you can use name calling but the other side must be respectful of your opinion and not use name calling?
This is sillier than anything Monty Python could have dreamed up

Yes, precisely the dilemma of internet postings. The very first post in many cases is controversial. Thereafter each subsequent response adds to the controversy. Someone then has to break the cycle.. I have invited Sands to break the cycle without myself name calling Sands in my last post. However you are more than welcome to keep the thread alive by pointing out my inconsistencies.
