Just a bib thank you to all the positive comments on my purchase of SPINDRIFT.
I sailed her down from Pittwater today.
She really travelled well.

We sailed past you just off north heads. Looked great!

Yes, which boat?

I was on a boat called Khaleesi. We were doing the lion island race.

Yes, I saw Khaleesi near the front. How did you finish?
I crewed on Chancellor a few years ago in great weather.

The internal fit out looks amazing. The engine has relatively low hours, do you think it has been recently replaced ?

I think it has to be a new install. I wonder if it is a conversion from shaft to sail drive.

The settee in the sleeping cabin seems superflous to me. Still a great boat at a great price.

Interesting opportunity for someone. It's actually an Austral 20, a South Australian built trailer sailer. Sell off the enormous 4 stroke outboard to a Cat sailer and fit a 5hp two stroke. Once the tree is removed from the cockpit this would be a nice little sailer.

i had a volvo 60 at one time last century

great boats...but forget the purchase price - it's the running costs that will cripple you (that and finding folk who can sail them)

cheers,

(ps : would not take this poor old girl if it was given to me)

Pretty cherry looking Spacesailor, perhaps a little over capitalised?

That's silly money for a 24 footer. I noticed lately since the COVID19 lock down that the asking prices for some pretty mediocre yachts has sky rocketed. Just wait till we are all free again and yachts are going to go into free fall! As soon as we can fly overseas again there will be a few bargains.

The Spacesailer 24 is not just any 24 footer. With very little overhangs, a high freeboard, and wide beam taken back to the stern, the accommodation and cockpit size compares well to many contemporary 28 footers. The noted example looks in excellent nick, and dealers are asking around $18k for similar boats on the East coast.

One of Laurie Davidson's 1974 designs - reminds a bit of the Miller Matika II

Under contract

My new boat

These photos are four years old but not a lot of difference.

It feels like a month since I bought the Laurie Davidson 32 Spindrift.
Now on my mooring in Bundeena.
Still early days but I believe she is the 'one'.
Went out on Sunday with forecast 15 to 20 knots or more. I was very impressed with how smoothly she moved through the three metre waves. My limited understanding is a benefit of the monohull and skew hung rudder.
These boats also have reputation for pointing high. Still I was pleased when one of my friends commented along these lines.
Another joy was her speed. With minimal headsail and reefed main we still reached 5.5 knots and it feels like there is 7 there in different conditions and more sails area.
I am getting accustomed to the dodger and its benefits so no intention of changing that at the moment.
Cheers to all who offered advice and good wishes.
John

Put some more photos up! Very jealous.
my cheap cav 32 sails brilliantly but has some drawback. Terrible interior. No furling headsail. No wind vane (although I have one on my balcony to install). No dodger.

Pretty sure this was advertised, not that long ago, somewhere north of $200k ($269,000 rings a bell.)

Bit of a price drop.

That's a cracker. Don't see to many schooners nowadays. Not much room between the masts, that fore-sail must be tiny.
Interesting that it is rigged with swept spreaders as well as forward and aft lowers, kind of new and old techniques in one rig.

He actually only paid $3500 for it needs a lot of work. He previously had it advertised for $11500
It's the same guy who was selling that crappy trailer sailor in the cools river about 6 months ago it was for sail for a long time

Thanks for the heads up but cripes cannot imagine the responses to this................Excess 12 the perfect name at $845K............how many are going to be sold in Oz? Looks like a block of flats which happened to float after an unexpected weather event ditched it into the sea and someone put a rig on it.................
