After re-rigging the tub I felt brave this morning and went for a fresh insurance quote for my boat. Some member mentioned youi
as a good alternative to Club Marine with whom l got one presently for $1000 without any extras.![]()

this is ludicrous! Even by ClubM. standards. $ 5000
excess? $ 1557 premium? No extras.
So l kept on looking once l warmed up and behold, l found QBE
with an excellent quote $748 incl. all fees and gst and..., and with extra cover for special items $3000, sporting equipment $3000
and general equipment $5000 with $100 or $500 excess respectively.
My lucky day.
They must have a sale on.![]()
I promise l never ever talk to youi
again in my life.![]()
Youi was the only company to insure my boat without an out of water survey and it being on a swing mooring. So I had no option!

This was similar to my experience with youi. And the questions and the chat, they still didn't get to know me.![]()
They did not care. The dummy could not even get my boat's age right.
QVB insured my boat this arvo, it is swinging, no inspections, veeery good terms. See above.
I never heard of an excess for a 28 footer of $ 5.000.00 (youi)![]()

I could only get third party. It was $420 from memory.
The problem is the age of the boat. it is 1980. Apparently once it is over 30yrs old they want an out of water survey before they will look at comprehensive. I wasnt about to pay $1,500 for a survey for a $4,500 boat.
BJR - look at Anchorage Marine (QBE underwriters). Swing mooring, 70s boat, 3yr old survey. Comprehensive for approx same as youi 3rd party

Just checked my Youi policy from last year, it was $700 for $45k cover on a 1983 boat on fore and aft mooring in the river. It's due again in May so it will be interesting.

Club marine mine is also a little higher as had a major claim 2 years ago. When another boat hit mine in a storm. Classed as no fault accident so effects both no claim.
One thing I can say is the claim process was easy with club marine and no problems with payout.
You find out how good an insurance company is when you have a claim, not when you pay the premium. My experience with QBE travel insurance was they dodged payment of what I considered a legitimate claim. Stretched the definition of what was supposedly pre-existing. You pays your money....
But you really to need read through each policy.
This was from a quote from Pantaenius:
"Single Handed Warranty - No single handed sailing allowed before dawn or after sunset."
So you go out for a single handed sail, intending to return before sunset - but a afternoon storm develops (as they do!).
So you take shelter till it passes, which means returning after sunset. You are now not covered if something happens.
But if you stupidly went out in the raging storm, so as to get home by dark you are!
Totally agree you sort the strawberries from the possum **** policies then luckily youi paid me out in full last year in the mersey river flood within 2 weeks i had my money.

Oh how I wish, I was moored in Gawley bay and was hit by a vessel insured by club marine when it's mooring let go in a storm, the result was effectively go f*** yourself and if you wish to appeal this decision please contact Allister Leaper, contact # provided, Allister Leaper never answered calls or returned missed calls, I assumed that this was the name that was assigned to the office answering machine and that no one at club marine aka allianze insurance gives a f***.
Insure with Club Marine AKA Allianze Insurance at your own risk.
Do not use Pantaenius extremely slow to process claim then they will give a really low settlement offer. Way under what it will cost to have it repaired. German Company ethics at their worst

How about some details thanks. Is this a general statement or can you provide actual details of the claim.
I have only heard good reports on Panatenius claim paying.

I'm getting the same vibes from QBE at the moment. On current performance, part way through a claim, I am rating them 2 or 3 out of 10.
A mate is going through a claim with Club Marine, who are pulling out all stops and bringing in excellent people like Sydney Rigging.
As of tomorrow we will be owners of a very shiny 36 footer and I'm fairly sure who will be getting our business. Unless something changes quickly QBE will never be seeing anything from us for boat, car and house insurance, and considering our claims history and what we have insured they will be the losers.

Yes, you're the fourth Cav 32 owner in this thread with exactly the same problem.![]()
Have had two major claims with Club.
One a Hobart start crash and another losing a rig on the hard stand. Yep you read that right!
In both cases not my fault and no way of avoiding the damage in each case.
In each case Club gets 10 out 10 on answering the claim.
Loss adjuster there to meet us as the dock and excellent contractor engaged in two hours with the crash.
Losing the rig, saw loss adjuster on site next morning, agreement as value of claim and the preferred contractor engaged in less than a week. I then paid the difference to get a different rig.
So maybe you get what you pay for.
I have insured with Nautilus but with one little boat had all sorts of problems last time because I was doing a major renovation.
Maybe it was just the underwriter I had to deal with.
Is an occasional out of water survey in an old boat (Any boat) unreasonable? There's regular comment about mooring minders and neglected boats, and owners who have grossly inflated opinions about the quality and value of their boat. Perhaps we need to accept that at some point, out of water surveys or insurance assessments (a cheaper option than a full survey) and rigging replacement, is a component cost of owning a yacht.
I've just purchased a new (1990) Cat with likely original rig. In reaching the decision to buy and insure it, I had to factor in out of water insurance assessment and re-rigging. Ouch! Interestingly, the rigger found a 30mm crack in the mast under a lower shroud fitting. Not something that would ever have been spotted in a survey, but something that could have been a major safety issue when we hit Bass Strait and 45knot gusts. The rigger fitted strengthening plates and larger tang bases for all shrouds. Money well spent in my opinion.
I think we will all be able to thank " Debbie" for our insurance hike next year.
And the morons who didn't prepare their boats!
This is from my sailing:
One eye-witness told us that the headsail on one yacht unfurled in the strong winds, causing the yacht to sail up on to the pontoon, breaking it loose and taking the neighbouring vessel with it.

I would not buy a 20yr old boat without a full survey and a rigging report so I guess at some stage an insurance company would be very wise to ask for verification that your vessel is in reasonable condition before taking you on as an insurance risk.
Having those things done every few years might make sense as the owner regardless of what you insurance provider might want.
Just paid up for another year with Xxxxmarine
but
warned will need full survey next year
every 5 years!
this needs to be factored into premium calculations!
