Great board, versatile and not too bad for pretend wave riders (like me)
Hmmmmm, don't sell yourself short el capitano. You are still a leyenda to so many.
imho youd be better taking advice from novice and early beginner directional riders, the reason I say this as $1300 ish is a lot of money( well for me) to shell out on a discipline of the sport that you may or may not pursue, if Darren will let you grab a demo for a good few days to let you have a run then thatd be the go,take it on some long downwinders so your not focussing on keeping ground, your 1st run especially in onshore slop is going to be frustrating< the second session will plant the seed the 3rd run should be showing signs of decent progression, only then imho would be the time to shell out some dosh, half the stuff on buy n sell and hanging in peoples garages are through impulse buying, I give my older model board to anyone here that wants a run , and last time I checked they were back on tts, a local I gave lessons to 2 years ago is progressing really well on a surfboard, he just uses different volume old surfboards, saying that the are a couple of nuggets on buy n sell that might be worth taking a punt at, aged directional riders would be better giving you some tips on getting into this discipline rather than pimping a certain or any brand of board, as youll soon find out it means squat
I own both 2012 and 2014 for over a year.
talking to other beginners is probably a good idea although I don't consider myself one anymore.
I got the 2012 when I was learning (just getting up on the board but unable to stay up wind) first session on the nugget I was upwind for the first time and it became the only board I used for months until my technique improved.
The price of these things new is a good point. I picked up my 2012 in early 2013 for about $600. Over 250 sessions later it's now for sale for $150.
But where I have to disagree is finding any old high volume surfboard and it will do the same job. Rocker, deep double concave, overall shape, the fins, volume but still with turned down rails makes this board what it is.
I'm guessing you've never actually ridden one.
Didn't say it's a replacement, it is however a good introduction to changing to this discipline of the sport, telling someone new to this side of the sport how well or how much fun is irrelevant, as your later post shows it took you months to get upwind, and looking at the volume of use on said boards you've put the hours in, I'm sure that steve hasn't had a big surfing background, as Manchester uk isn't known for its surf breaks, plenty of sharks though , also other peoples deceptions on fun, for me and my local spot I found a surfboard transition hardly fun compared to my conventional board, a mutant was a better option, I have plenty of respect for you guys that persist in such crappy conditions, I don't have that mentality , the mentioned surfer I gave lesson to is a very decent surfer, 2 years on he's a long way off where he'd like to be on a kite with a surfboard, and for people to tell a complete beginner to this side how much fun the board is IMHO not the go, especially looking at the cost , goes for all brands and disciplines, your correct I Havnt rode the nugget but an equivalent and for me I'd of been disappointed to of shelled out big money after reading peoples descriptions , maybe my kite, wind strengths or conditions played a part in me not wanting to go forward with it, keep things real
Has anyone got experience with this board? I'm looking to get one for next season to use in light wind, and also intro to surfboard and strappless riding for a change from the twinny.
Are they fun to ride, and also easy to carve turn and switch your feet.im on the pivots with 11 being the biggest kite, not interested in the big kites anymore, doesn't do it for me.
I'm 88kg, any info would be great?
Cheers
It is by far the easiest board I've tried. Not my favourite but it does work very well in lighter wind and learning the gybe is very easy. I found it uncomfortable when the wind get stronger and the water choppy but you can't have it all.... Great for what you want to achieve!
Don't listen too much to cauncy and eppo, those guys ride mutants, they wouldn't understand what we are talking about.
You won't get wrong if you go for that board.
Speaking as a directional novice... It's a brilliant light wind board, easy to learn on, and very capable in smallish surf. not suitable for big wind days, or I imagine big surf. Can't have it both ways. One of my best purchases. Local (non north) dealer wishes he had something as good to sell!
Livit you might wanna re read the posts mate. Plus I don't ride a mutant, so essentially you didn't get one thing right except the part about the actual nugget.

Don't ride my mutant that much to be honest, as conditions are pretty limited most of the time, maybe post a few shots or better still a video of you ripping on the nugget, he'll I might be tempted myself![]()
I had the opportunity to ride the new North Nugget CSC last tuesday in 15 to 25 knots using 14m RPM and 12m Evo.
I spent about 90 minutes bouncing around strapless and doing let jumps and a bunch of tight turns on the flat water.
And it was so good that I have ordered one. It turns better than my old Nugget and seems to go upwind better as well (IMHO).
So my old 2014 model will be consigned to a place of honour in the corner at home.

... Out of interest, what size is your 2014 and which size 2016 did you try?
Found this btw:
Me and a mate just picked up some 2015 5'2" nuggets, they add so much more wind range to your kites. Been using a 12m in like 12-15 knots no problems.
I rode the same board as Bigtone and it was sooo much fun. It's got a lot of float and goes upwind like a trooper. It also feels really solid, I suppose due to the width and the 4 fins.
Boy directional strappless is epic fun. This board surely must be as good as they get.
Again, I work for north. So ill state that upfront for no confusion.
For the last 3 weeks i have been working my way from North QLD back to Sydney, with a van full of new kites and boards.
(Don't worry Vic and SA, I'm coming for you)
The wind hasn't been overly favorable so, often the lightwind options are the "go too".
Surfboard rider or never ever, the NUGGET has been the stand out.
The new curvy CSC shape, makes it really clean for carves and turning.
The mega double in the bottom, with quad only fins, make it get up an boogie in little to no wind and its super stable, so riding strapless is easy for a new surfboard rider.
Saying that, I've been kiting for over 10years and have been riding a surfboard now for 5 of them.
Getting on the nugget and having a bust around is still fun as hell.
Haven't used the NUGGET in any decent down the line waves yet, but if it's anything like last years it should be sweet.,
If you want a demo, hit your closest dealer or keep an eye out for our demo stop, near you.
cheers crew.

I have the 5'5" and the new one is 5'3".
I forgot to mention: I have not been able to go toeside and only managed to do it for the first time when I tried out the nugget the other day. I knew how to do it in theory but never really managed on a TT. The Nugget made it really easy and I'm sure this skill will now also translate to my TT etc.
Nugget going on my wish list for sure!
JBFletch where is there a NUGGET dealer in Sydney?
Hey Phoney, Windsurf N Snow @ Collaroy will have them.
I'll have our fleet in sydney next week, so if you let them know what size you want, over the weekend i can drop ours in there for you.

Stoked to hear it worked Kajo.
It might sound like the normal "rep" spill, but the NUGGET is one of the most versatile boards around, for any level of shredder.

Wow. They going for the "built in the shed, diy" look are they?
Yeah they're bloody ugly colourwise arent they! Reminds me of those foam surfboards they sell in Big W. They don't come in white do they?

Thanks! I have no idea what size I want. I'm 78kgs if that helps.
I think the new Nugget CSC only comes in a 5'3" size. But a accurate North website might clear that up.
The 5'3" certainly works for my 100kg's.
Here's the specs from our brochure. We're getting them next week and 5'3 is going straight into demo
. We are also getting the 5'0 which would be great for the smaller guys or girls
.

It was around 30 litres.

The new nugget has (according to North) less volume but more planning surface area, so the new 5'0 should be similar or better than the old 5'2 in low end/upwind ect.
At 80kg your at the top end for the 5'0 & low for the 5'3 - you need to decide if you want more top or low end.
The Tomo Evo is not even close to the nugget. Completely different boards, width, thickness, rocker, channels.
^^ exactly
And the evo actually goes ok in waves.
If you think the nugget is going to go any good in decent down the line waves with that outline and specs, you're kidding yourself.
Looks fun for slop and light wind messing about though.
Ok, comparing it to the Evo was a bit of a stretch.....the basic outline can look vaguely similar if you have had a few beers.
Im getting a 5'0 to fill the gap untill firewire release the kite construction Evo
