Wearing anything that could save a life or injury should be common sense.

Some people will always be to hard core to use any thing that has to do with ( safety )

Whats worse they take the piss out of those that do.

Classic coming from a finger blowing his brains n bones out !

I thought the safety was on.

^^^ Fair call and the point I was trying to make also.
FYI Dusta I have offered to join WASKA committee to offer to represent my local area however they were not really interested as my area doesn't have a very big membership base of which I have also tried to boost. Sorry if this offends you!

I find that very difficult to believe Blackbeard. Id suggest that if your local is "lacking members" the WAKSA central c'tee would be all the more likely to welcome you aboard.
There is absolutely no reason for the WAKSA c'tee to be "not interested" in supporting any/all local beach user groups. Apart from development of local group organisations being amongst its highest priority goals it is one which takes very little extra effort from anyone on the central c'tee - apart from providing advice, allocation of funding and its growing inventory of equipment.

Just in case anyone is wondering here ...... you DO NOT have to become a part of the central WAKSA c'tee to head-up or organise a local beach user group or special interest group or one off kite event. The way is open - through WAKSA - for people to develop their area of interest without taking on central c'tee responsibilities ie without having to make a commitment to the full-time, year round responsibilities WAKSA c'tee members take on.
If you are at all interested in supporting the sport in these directions PLS let WAKSA know and take the lead they can provide.

It may not have been summarised clearly anywhere but this is where we stand with Australian kiting as of now.
The individual state KSA's have united under a totally reformed AKSA with the new Kiteboarding Australia Ltd (KA) as its national representative body.
The next stage of development of this state federation through KA is the development of the 3rd tier ie beach user groups + special interest groups + event organisation groups
The central WAKSA c'tee is there to run the business of WAKSA and put WA's voice forward at the KA level. Its up to you kiters out there to build the individual, beach based sectors of our sport.
KA ltd. - with a board made up of state reps - is poised to begin its representation of the sport at a national level & work toward achieving NSO recognition. It has taken 12 years but we are there.
WAKSA and the other state KSA's have been playing their part for all of these 12 years to get us this far - as well as running a few events along the way.

It is now up to local and individual kiters to step up to provide the grassroots (or sandroots) levels of kiting. This is the essential next stage if kiting is to successfully complete its development towards being a unified, strong and cohesive sporting organisation.
It is beyond the capability & time restraints of the state KSA c'tees to develop & run these specialised functions.
Dont complain about WAKSA's lack of services - jump in and help provide them.
It is this level of development which will now make or break kiting becoming a legitimate sport.

I have been in contact with WAKSA in the past, and will continue to liaise with them in regard to possibly having a local committee member.
Unfortunately circumstances have changed for me and I no longer have the time to effectively undertake this role.

lol.

From your government, that you pay for:"Kite and wind surfers operating more than 400 metres from shore are now required to carry safety equipment. Department of Transport Coordinator of Safety Education Laurie Adams said the growing popularity of kite and wind surfing, coupled with recent
developments in the sports and participants venturing further and further offshore had prompted new laws to improve safety of the activities.

“The laws , which apply from today (August 1, 2014 ) , promote safety and have the capacity to save lives ,” Mr Adams said. “Endorsed by the WA Kite Surfing Association and Windsurfing Western Australia following extensive consultation, the new requirements will be the subject of an education campaign and phased in over the next 18 months.

”If a kite or wind surfer is between 400 metres and two nautical miles from shore they now require a life jacket and can chose to carry either red and orange flares or an Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon (EPI RB) or Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).

DoT has launched Kite and Wind Surf Safe to raise awareness about the new laws. To view the campaign visit www.transport.wa.gov.au/kitesafe"

Isn't Lano over 400m offshore?

Sure gonna make a funny site with all those fluro lifejackets & epirbs hitting up main break!

i got enough room in my Pfd type 2 to fit a few flares and possibly an epirb, i don't see the problem.. only for those who don't bother to wear safety gear.

what make and model is your jacket??
