some top ASP surfers cant get enough sponsorship

And? They deserve more sponsorship why??? I know a lot of talented people from many different sports (skateboarding, BMX, Surfing) that don't get any sponsorship at all, let alone "enough". Surfers in Australia were just lucky to once be in a situation where they basically had money thrown at them, other sports were never that lucky. That aside, I think that what Leo said about not putting his name on the ad is true in a way, I agree that the brand or magazine should always caption the rider as should they caption the photographer. However bringing up the situation in this manner is far from a respectable way of doing things and ultimately will make no difference to the situation what so ever.

why - because simply it is a much larger and more popular sport / industry with a lot more available $$ - im talking top tier here- as far as surfers in Aus having $$ thrown at them? your far from reality mate.

I don't believe that is true, Skateboarding is the largest grossing boardsport in America and the world, that's a fact. The skate industry and counter culture is the biggest in the world and ultimately it's what even surfers try to mimic... for example how many people do you see wearing Vans??? Top skaters in Australia practically get nothing and it's not until they go to the US and have to prove themselves all over again do some of them get lucky enough to earn a minimum wage. Surfers most deffinetly have had money thrown at them in the past in comparison to any other boardsport in Australia.
I'm not saying it should be either or, just sharing my view.

Sort of sad what's going on here, an obviously very talented rider, probably better than anyone who has posted sofar, loses his cool over a company he has some argument with and airs the dirty laundry.....after which every one is happy to put the boot in, also pretty uncool.
Others would also say, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

It's like every professional sportsman. Aussies want them as role models and admire that they are able to do a sport as a job and when they get nasty and bitter, especially to the people who make their lifestyle possible (sponsors) it's a bad look and a bad example to young guys trying to follow in their footsteps. Being talented, sponsored and even being the best in the world at something (anything) is only half of the package. Being humble and a good example to other sports people and the youth is just as important if not more so than your sponsorships. Set a good example, help anyone in your sport that you can and make sure your sponsors see you doing that and your sponsors will be using your name all the time because they will be proud to be a part of your career!

I'm not sponsored or ever will be because I'm too old and unfit and the slight issue of not being good enough, but from a sponsors point of view, I'd want a role model and a champion attitude using my gear!

interesting point of view Rowdy and your right on many points, but the$$ thing is wrong regarding surfing you could bring a whole host of sports to the argument that are bigger than skating and lack of sponsorship .

I highly doubt the likes of Slater Fanning Durbidge etc etc and millions more are trying to emulate skateboarding I certainly don't, surfing def has evolved massively in the past 15 years and sure in the younger generation most have a more skate influenced style but I still IMO wouldn't say emulate probably more like inspired by? surfing isn't just about punts with reverses and all the crazy air combos they can now do - still a massive hack IMO (power surfing) is what surfing's about and where it came from but hey I'm also in the older generation now...

anyhow this is going off topic im out- send me a PM if you want to continue debating

I was interested in moto-x a few years back and enjoyed the Crusty Demons videos... then sorta stopped watching. Caught a few of the freestyle MX videos recently - omfg! If kiting takes the same quantum leaps then... damn!

dude I post rarely nowadays.

Sponsorshp is about being an amabssador to your brand. as said, countless times before. You aren't cutting it , period.

Look at the above what you wrote, its is not coherent.

I've been training for these tricks and I can land a 360's, no grab, not bad for an ..(%^&*$, learn how to type).............. with only 4 years of kiting.
The difference is these guys only do that, nothing else.

This attitude is why no one cares......

to be fair there are plenty of people out there with your level of 'talent' (after 4 years) who aren't professional riders & don't go bragging/boasting if off on the internet.

Agree'd with austin some of the best kiters Ive seen over the years use last seasons gear and kite solo, yet they're nobody's that are just natural watermen!! out there frothing... that video was more like a freestyle twin tip video!! got talent but coming from a surf background id prefer seeing some powerful turns..

Clearly! You understand what an exclamation! Mark is for!!! But I wonder! If most people! Nowadays! Really! Realise! What an exclamation mark! Means!?!?

The internets! (Yes that's right! Internet(s)) has changed! Everyone's! Use of! Exclamation marks!

And don't get me started! On emoticons!!!

Some good riding there. You make the best of the conditions you got in kitesurfing.

Don't be too fast to judge peoples literacy I reckon.
