... for a seat harness that doesn't give me wedgies or a waist harness that doesn't end up in my armpits.
Really gets me down, especially when the session is not going well ![]()
Got a pair of Dakine Nitrous HD board shorts/seat harness on Saturday and have had two sessions in them so far..........
Absolutely NO wedgies, super stoked with them ![]()
Is the cheque in the mail?????
That's the problem with using fly surfers. So much lift, so much power. My leis are sweet with a waist harness. But when I'm powered on the fly surfer. It tries to break my ribs.
For those days I use the ozone snow kite harness. It's not designed for the water but works well with no wedgies.
But. It does give you the ball squease when walking up the beach with a powered kite.
I had the same problem with my Mystic Warrior harness, but after realising there is a 2nd strap adjustment just above from the knife pocket and actually using it, I had no more problems. It stays pretty much around my waist, but I really have to suck in my gut to get it on though!
Replying, in order...
Don't come in my size. And I doubt it'd help anyway ![]()
With any kite, including any LEI - I don't just use Flysurfers, y'know
Waist usually stays put until I fall over, then the water either jams it up into my armpits or it's on it's way to being jammed into my armpit. It creeps up over time anyway... I prefer the seat for big wind days but...
Have that Ozone harness too - but don't they say DONT use it in the water?
Seat gives a squeeze anyway...
My Renegade has that strap but it doesn't help. The other problem with that harness is the hook pulling up and flipping the spreader bar pad so it digs into my chest - first session I used it, left me with bruises. Those damned clips are unnecessary IMO too... wish we could get spreader bars that only used straps.

Are you sure the Nitrous HD don't come in your size? They have a huge range.
I know I shouldn't be here, but I use them for windsurfing and they are excellent. You forget you have a harness at all, because its just there and doesn't dig into you like a normal seat harness can.

mystic seat boa system, simply twist the dial for comfort of fit
My suggestions - do waist harness up really really tight - when u hook in it loosens off, do 3 months of turning body more triangle exercises so it cannot physically ride up.
Windsurfers welcome too! I'm contemplating a climbing harness, just in case :D Heard that the gliding snowkites put them under their waist harness and that helps keep the whole lot down, as well as providing a backup... can't find a pic though.
I've been using the XXL Fusion since the beginning because it's bigger than XXL :(
Bought an OR Session2 XL harness about 2 years back - but couldn't even get the straps done up... been working on that diet and can now get them closed - but only just. I'd like a little more "slack" in the lines before I got out on it...
Nitrous only goes up to 38 inches... I use 46 inch board shorts so that my legs can move freely - fat thighs :( and I hate shorts riding up cos the legs are narrow diameter ![]()

Less is more. My 2013 harness, that I got the end of July, is starting to fall apart already - straps wearing, stitches coming apart
the Star seat looks interesting though...

Then they just slide up and can't be slid down ![]()
In theory, it shouldn't be able to ride up over my pot belly - but it does!

Ahh, that's a shame. I have a pair of 36" and they fit really well, and as I said before, you don't even know you have a harness on. I must take a look at them and work out how they do it, but I think the leg straps are just padded well and spread the load more across more cloth.
It is a welcome change. After hears of wearing a seat harness, these are super comfortable. The seat harness straps dig into your groin, or they slip and the spreader bar rides up.
I have a very 'V' shape, and a waist harness rides up and tries to stop me breathing.
Buy some Nitrous HD and get them modified! It'll be worth it.

try using them everyday for two weeks of days
if the insides of your thighs aren't rubbed raw, I'll give you a thousand dollars
if you video the reaction of your significant other to the state of your raw thigh meat when they go down town, I'll double it....

I got told by Dakine that they'll custom-make a waist in any size... I've just now asked them if they'll custom-make a pair of Nitrous for me ![]()
Some idea of how they're made would be good :D

Most consecutive days riding I've had here - 4 :(
I can save you some time with a climbing harness, they are ball grinders. I bought an arbourists climbing harness (sposed to be comfier than a technical harness) to rerig my boat and after about 20 mins I was sure I'd permantly damaged something, which sucked because I spent lots of hours finishing that job. To be fair you sit in it a lot heavier when you're climbing but I still think it would be pretty average kiting. I've been using the Dakine fusion seat harness for about six months now and it's super comfy, never had a wedgy or crushed nuts..
never had a wedgy
What am I doing wrong then? I even get wedgies where my wetsuit get rammed up my ass...
cmon your having us on, your a sumo wrestler, i know it

No idea if this makes a difference or not but I always wear a pair of skins compression leggings underneath with boardies or wetsuit over that. Keeps the jellies at bay and less muscle fatigue.. or maybe I just like tights, the jury is still out on that one.

North Transformer. Waist harness with leg straps. No wedgies and no lifting under armpit. The leg straps are only there to hold it down, it's a normal waist harness.

I just had a look at one of my pairs. The leg straps are embedded into the back of the shorts, and the loop bit that goes around your thighs are just super padded straps. These straps are adjusted from outside the shorts using a strap/buckle arrangement.
The construction where the straps for the spreader bar connect to are just thicker parts of the shorts at the back, but thinner than normal harnesses.
The only thing that wraps around the front is the zipper in the shorts and a buckle that is used to hold both sides of the shorts together.
I wish I could say I had 2 weeks of sailing everyday to compare to, but I haven't had one of those years for ages. I have used seat harnesses for years with seasons that good, and other than retightening the straps, the old seat harness was good. Except for the broken spreader bars of course...
Thought about the Transformer - but the velcro waist closure doesn't stretch so I'm pretty sure it won't fit.
The wedgie is less bad when I wear a wetsuit, but I still get wedgied and with a wetsuit, it's much tougher to fish outa your crack. This 2013 harness is especially bad for it - my 2012 Fusion ended up being super-comfy...?
Jay, the Dynabar guys, do a harness with leg straps too... dunno if it's big enough :(
A little trick I do when I'm riding super powered and get he rip squeeze.
Ride the kite LOW. So low that it slaps the water. lean way the hell back and the kite pulls the harness back down.
Had the same issue with an old Ion seat harness. Picked up a Dakine Storm seat harness, 2012 model on a runout sale and it is like sitting in an armchair. No wedgies, good back support and adjustable in the right places. I have the large but was sure I saw an XL in the shop.
A few solutions
1/ lose the beergut and grow some lats!! Won't slide up then! Haha
2/ ride with the kite lower in the window
3/ just unhook more!
1/ doesn't happen overnight and is, in general, taking too long :(
2/ doesn't help.
3/ no thanks, I like my shoulders in my sockets.
Similiar issue with my seat harness, but was transformed when i added the dynabar (so was my kiting) pulls from different angles and harness stays straight and dosen't ride up half as much.
