@the NT guys. The croc that got him didnt cut into his flesh much. Why?
It said a 2m croc. Is that small for a croc?
... 2m is still capable of chomping ya toe or fingers off so its big enough, either way is gunna mess ya up! If you ever do one of those croc tour thingys at a croc park, hold one of the baby ones, you'll feel they are a ball of muscle when they wanna.
Cheers,
Robbie :)
ps here is a bit of an inappropriate video concidering the above, one of the kite crew who used to wrangle crocs, video of a kite/camping trip on a island woopwoop
"More commitment", "Grabbed him by the neck but he was to strong so I should have just sat on him"
looks like he's a few beers in to!
Bred a little (or a lot?) tougher in the NT!
... wonder whats going on hey, I've seen way more crocs this year than any other and sharks too for what its worth, just yesterday a 4 or 5 foot somthing at Rapid Creek,,,,,,, global warming, El-Nino, making the animals braver?????? W t f is going on????
cheers,
Robbie :)
Hey Robbie,
I can recall on a few occasions that you reckon that the white pointers down here are more dangerous than the mobile reefs, don't think so.![]()
I don't think you guys will be pushing the boundaries for a while.
Keep safe all.
... a little up date ...
Raptor trumps Croc!!!
I got to talk to Chris, the guy in the story, and found out a few more details.
He was at Lee Point which is a regular spot we use (in fact I was there just 2 days later, on my own too, beach is used a lot by dog walkers too ) and he was using a Rebel 14m with a Crazyfly Raptor Pro. Due to the wind direction, it is a bit gusty close in and you have to kite past the reef/rocks to get into the clear air but as he took off, wind lulled and he stopped so kite went down. While drifting waiting for kite to catch a bit more air to relaunch, the croc had a go at him.
(insert news story here every one has heard by now)
With kite in the water, he didn't have the presences of mind to punch out so with kite still nose down, he had just enough wind to keep him from swimming back easily and of course could back away fast enough from the croc. The kite hindered his progress back to the beach and made it nearly impossible,,,,, because he hadn't punched out yet.
He used the Raptor to smack the croc until he could get traction on the ground and walk in to safety.
Bloody lucky dude indeed!
Cheers,
Robbie ![]()

... nah, still reckon the big monsters in SA are still worse!
another update,,,,, again,
Croc sighted at Casuarina beach heading to Rapid Creek (another spot we kite) this morning, looks like around 2m, parks and wildlife are keeping an eye on it,,,,, could be the same one that had a go at Chris???
Croc Attack or Shark Attack..............if I had to make the choice, I'm not sure what I'd take. ![]()

Shark any day.
Shark; you generally don't see coming, then he takes a big chunk leaving you to bleed out in minutes.
Croc; drags you under, rolls around and then stuffs you under a log in the mud.
If i'm going out I want it in blue water not brown, brown water is always bad
.
Thanks for the update Robbie. Any word on the type of bites that he received? What happened when the croc grabbed him?
.
I can guarentee if something big was trying to eat me - the water is going to be extremely brown, no mater how clean it was before!!!
Thanks for the update Puetz.
At least with sharks if you do manage to get out of the water after an attack, it's not going to come chasing you up the sandbank, chomp onto your legs and drag you back in.

... he was laying in the water more or less on his back with kite down wind and pulling him slightly, the croc came from behind him and to his right and chomped his shoulder pinning his right arm across his chest so when he eventually poked it in the eye, using his left hand which made it let go. From what I understand, he sustained 2 decent puncture wounds which is what the croc expert used to determine the size of the croc (which turned out to be 2.2m). By pulling himself out of the croc's mouth he got some good scrapes that look like he's been dragged over rocks.
The part of the story I don't understand is why the croc didn't start rolling when it grabbed him, apparently shook him??? Maybe 'cause he played dead, or the croc is sick, weak,,,,, dunno, but I'm going to catch up with him soon and will ask him.
The bad bit now is infection! Very very lucky dude hey!
cheers,
Robbie :)
Thanks for the feedback Robbie.
It's a bit said that his poor bugger has an experience that none of us ever want to go through, but there were a few nah sayer's that canned the poor bugger.
Robbie, please buy him a beer for me when you catch up with him. Pay you back at Putu's in a few weeks.
Best of luck Chris!!!!

... no worries man will do!!!! I was a nah sayer to begin, well kind of, kept an open mind at least. The media got the details wrong so they were the reason things didn't add up but after contacting him, its real alright. Yep, he's one lucky dude that's for sure.
Can't wait for Bali, hope the wind plays ball!!
Robbie :)

That's actually a myth. Crocs do not have to be near logs or rocks to push you under to decompose. They can and will eat you on the spot. source: Croc farms, and other tourist croc "specialists".

Are you the dude? What happened?
No, Yes, Maybe, I don't know.
brakewater sounds like the guy who got chomped, and replied immediately to the thread when he read the first few comments/pages about people doubting what happened and where it happened. Which I cant blame him for, most people disputed it immediately.
He's posted again after he's read the full pages. brakewater, if you are the dude who got chomped, glad to hear you're ok and recovering well.
