Watched a guy launch dead downwind in a 25knt breeze.
There wasn't much room to launch so he put the kite on the 'beach' (muddy bank) and walked straight upwind and launched. He got lifted, then dragged through a bunch of scrub. A few scratches later and a lot of detangling, he launched properly and had a ball.

Also in same spot. 30knt northerly swung to the west and picked up 20 knots. A windsurfer was there with a wind gauge and it hit 58knts. (still not enough wind though :P )
3 kiters out all went down, all dumped their kite completely and swam/walked across 300m of mudflats. Kites were recovered eventually but the sight of these three guys all bouncing across the water, spray being whipped up by this massive gust, holy crap.

Hi peeps,

We had a good ol bloke rock into the shop on Saturday with his recent purchase from Craptree. A hardly used 12m Slingshot (wait) ...... you guessed it ..... A Link! It was in good nick and the bar and lines barely used. Also came with a rusty Slingy pump, a worn out Flying Objects harness and a very old Shinn board for $200

I explained the virtues of the Link and why it was barely used. He wanted to persist, so we at least sorted him with a safety leash and explained how it worked and checked the safety releases. The deal wasn't all bad, the board is worth $200, so he'll get his money back there and he'll be able to use the bar on a second hand late model kite that he will need in the not too distant future.

This isn't a tale of woe (although buying a Link, could be considered a woe unless you were paid to take it ). He seemed like a sensible bloke and I have no doubt he will take a lesson or two in the season, lets just hope he and his mate don't "try" kiting Perth's beaches on the Link before summer.

The big tree at the edge of the grass at Pelican Point has seen a thing or two. Explains its gradual loss of branches as people politely retrieve their kites each afternoon.

Hmmmmm, He should have persisted with the link. A kite requiring a level of ability only a few possess. The Upgrade to the code red bridle turned the kite into a formidable weapon. They are slowly increasing in price as they have a cult following now world wide. I only wish I had a quiver of them.

Had another disaster today ! Not at work so I thought - f$&k it ! Might go for a kite ! Got to the beach , 8 to 11 knots - Ok whip out the 14 vector , let's see just how light a wind this kite will fly in ! Had the beach to myself as far as kiters go ( no surprise there ) did a self launch directly down wind , To my surprise it worked , kite took off , got to 12 'o'clock and then the wind STOPPED Subsequently the kite literally fell out of the sky and I had to run like hell to get away from the f$&@ken thing ! HaHahahaha Stick ya light wind I ain't going out in anything under 15 knots ever!

... crazyiest place I've seen is Point Walter, WA on a Saturday arvo with a sou'eaterly wind.

Learners, euro's and the flicky flicky crew all in one spot with no one listening or giving a sh!t about each other. Rather than kite any more the missus and I watched the crazyiness from the grassy hill with a few beers, mayhem galore!!!!

Watched a dad teaching his son and about to launch when I saw he had one front line over the top of the kite, tried to tell him and he told me to piss off so immediately as kite took off I watched kid go flying into a bunch of euro's who when complaining to dad was also told to piss off also.

Flicky flicky crew doing tricks right amongst learners. Run away kite bouncing right through all the kites sitting on beach with bar in tow, grey nomads standing right in front of a kite trying to launch, must have been deaf as kite swoops up and bridle scraps across one old dude nearlying knocking him over,,,, it went on.

No wonder the local crew go really early hours when its really really cold but no one there!

Robbie
