Kiter boy posted a gumtree ad and in the thread it got talking about how stuff can be really crazy.

Below is 2 things that have happened to him in the past (or that he's seen), and I'm interested what crazy s**t others have seen from guys with kites???

I haven't seen anything as plain old stupid as below but I'm sure lots of you have!

Please share

Yeah I've stopped a few in my time - like the dude with the 12m in gusty frontal 25kts with his mate hot launching him dead downwind. I sprinted a long way to stop that happening. Bar rigged all in reverse. He listened for 10 minutes, waited till I turned my back, launched anyway. Dragged about 100m on his belly on the sand, pulled safety, went home bleeding, never showed again.

More recently the 2 guys way out at low tide with the 18m kite that wouldn't launch. I'm watching thinking something's really wrong there. I wandered over that time, watched them walking on the kite while trying to launch it, only half pumped so it's flopping everywhere and they're walking up and down on it. Get there and they've got a 2 line bar on a 4 line kite, only attached to front pigtails. He's wearing a weight lifting belt with the bar tied to it. Good thing it never launched, tied to a 18m with no release and no steering. That coulda been fun.

Was at my local about 150 metres off shore. Looked back at the beach and saw a kite flying along downwind out of control. Thought 'geez that's not good'
Then saw the guy attached to it skidding along the beach. Went for a good 40 metres down the sand.
Wasn't hurt and now he rips :p

Did a good one myself by accident ! I was practicing water starts in about 20 odd knots with a 12 m switchy , not in as deep a water as I should of been , got in to water start position , prepared to dive the kite but barred in on the backstroke ! Got boosted straight up lost my board and crashed kite and all in knee deep water ! While I was sitting there in a fair bit of pain , some random dude ran up to me and said, Man that was f"@&$:n awesome ! Then ran off ! Earned two sprained ankles and a broken tailbone ! Lesson learned

Out on a Psycho4 19, having a nice time then the wind shifted and hit gusty as he'll. ride out a surge and got pushed to shore and felt it building again so I hit the QR expecting the kite to drop in the beach...

Nope. A knot on the 5th line broke and kite, bar and lines sailed over:
the beach
the trees lining the road
the road
the YMCA campground and lodges...

Finally coming to rest just in front of the row of houses bordering the paddy fields behind the YMCA.

Not a mark on the kite! Until earlier this year, landng on what I thought was a clear stretch of sandy beach... Ripped a hole on along someone had buried after an illegal fire :(

No sleep. but 5 hours of down time fixing boards and dodging dangerous conditions. So 19 hours on the board.

Many moons ago, I learnt to spell & write correctly. Surprisingly, those skills have been useful in a number of situations.

Devastated it was 10 years ago. Nowadays you would have your mobile handy to film it and post it for the rest of us to enjoy.

I saw this thread once that could've been cool but went the way of a speeding freight train and derailed into bullshut.
Kind of expected these days on Seabreeze.

I was drinking beers on the roof of observation city at scarborough, a guy boosted from about 400m out to sea, and got mega triple boosted by some HUGE gusts, he landed hard on the roof near us and pulled the safety, his kite is still stuck on the top of contacios, but he's fine!

Once upon a time, it was a beautiful Saturday, blowing 15-20 knots..... I turned and asked my misses if I could go to the beach for a session.... And she said 'YES.... NO PROBLEM'......... Couldn't believe it. Incredible, it was. Hasn't happened since!!
