Been done so many times before!!!
If you want to look like a male ballet dancer and show off the size of your package don't wear baggies over your wettie
If you want to be discreet about the size of your package wear baggies
The choice is yours

New around here? It's not that secret really is it? I mean the fact that it happens. What it means is entirely another question.

The simplest answer may be that if you kite somewhere shallow, better your boardies take the abrasion than your $$$ wetty.

But clearly that's not the whole story.

By concealing my knob (however colossal or tiny) am I keeping voyeurism at bay, or simply adding to the mystique? Am I sending a "you have to earn your way into these pants" message, or simply saying "move along, nothing to see here."

By not wearing boardies, am I suggesting that there's nothing at all sexual about how I look when I kite (and only a disgusting pervert would think such a thing) and we should just get on with kiting, or am I out and proud - "this is what I got, check it out"?

And even then, is the absence of boardies necessarily homoerotic, or could it be a simple assertion of maleness, or does it help to get rid of, or at least keep at bay, some lingering doubts.

One thing is clear, by the intensity of passion this topic generates, over and over again, year after year, there's clearly more to it than meets the eye.

The only generalisations I might add are:

1. The meaning ascribed to the boardshorts says as much about the beholder as the wearer,
2. The angrier you get about it, thew more repressed you will seem to be ...

Whip it good.

Worse is a Lycra stinger suit. You need a good ego to wear one.

My boardies protect my wet suit from my seat harness! The straps going around the thighs have already ruined my winter wet suit - now I wear boardies...

Plus I am very conscious about my looks - that is why I wear zinc, yellow floatation vest and a bucket hat!

I can honestly say I did not expect to see a horse gimpsuit on seabreeze when I logged in today. Infact I was completely unaware that horse gimpsuits even exists! I guess I'm not surprised. Weirder things have happened at sea!..... Like crazy people self conscious about there meat and 2 veg size, wearing boardies over a perfectly good wetsuits.

Let's put it another way,,,,,

If uncle Chopper was around today, god bless him "RIP"
And he kitesurfer would he:

A: wear a wettie with his harness over the top

B: wear Boardies with his harness over the top or built in

C: wear a wettie with Boardies over the top

Hmmm
What if George Michael was to kitesurf would he:

A: wear a wettie with Boardies over the top

B: wear a wettie with bright red buggie smugglers over the top

C: wear an all in one Lycra mankini

Cheers

It makes you kite better !! I have never worn boardies over my wetsuit until the other day , thought I would give it a go . See what all this talk is about . I had the best session ever heaps of tricks in the bay , some nice waves and boosting out at the reef , upwinder to the next beach downwinder through the surf back to the bay . I wonder if it's the boardies over the wetsuit I don't care about how my man package looks in my wetsuit you shouldn't be looking in that area anyway !! Now I have a problem boardies or no boardies ?

When I surf I just wear a steamer, if I kites or wakeboard the boardies go on. There is more walking around, mingling with people on land, getting a feed from a shop. If I was to just rock up, walk 50m to the water and kite then pack up and go (like I do surfing) I wouldn't bother with the bordies.
Unless you wanted to be fashionable

I just googled "boardies no wettie gay or what" and that was the first picture :DSnowboard pants! Is that what those were? I got some videos of guys wearing what I thought were ice hockey pants...

Did my first winter here with just boardies and rashguard+t-shirt... bloody freezing, not fun at all. 0??C air temp and the water is pretty much just snow melt. If you want to be a masochist, that's good for you... but I love my 6mm suit ;)

I'm the idiot who makes a brief appearance in the blue t-shirt. I found a hat floating on the lake that day so that was a bonus!

Warning: serious response to this perplexing issue below...

I think it's this whole wake board / skate board culture. Nothing to do with surfing. I believe even the term "kite surfing" came out from those that saw the sport but never participated in it at all, like the tourists that named Surfers Paradise without even looking at the waves! Ever since people hit the water in almost any ocean based sport, we all wore wet suits, especially in colder Southern waters. But with "Water Skating" as I think is more appropriately named, wearing boardies over the wet suit is simply an extension of the sk8ing culture from land to water.

It's a proven method to flush out the gay guy in the pack - he who doesn't like seeing it and needs to vent it to the world, is definitely gay

Oh it must be for gays only? Are we still doing that?

I guess board and kite graphics should be appropriately spartan as well lest we all catch de gay.

And we should mandate budgie smugglers only! If you don't agree you're clearly a little "flamboyant", right?

Personally I appreciate the aesthetic over a lycra clad cyclist or wetty wearing kite surfer.
