Hey fellow seabreezers mind if I throw in my 2 cents worth.
****** moron.
I'm not an anti smoker, if someone wants to smoke then no worries, just don't sit down next to me an light up other wise I might punch you out just like what happened to a Doctor recently when he asked a smoker to stop smoking in front of a hospital entrance. The Docs life support was turned off.
Like wise if I sit down next to someone who lights up, I will ask them kindly not to or I will move.
I too have had relatives who have smoke into their old age, guess what they died of smoking related diseases.
I have also spent many nights in hospital beds next to other patients with smoking related diseases, from direct smoking and passive smoking, never once had a fellow patient tell me he/she is dying from walking the streets.

After my double lung transplant the docs said DON"T SMOKE, (like I would) but didn't tell me not to walk the streets.

By extrapolation are you saying that smokers should be allowed to smoke wherever they like, cinemas, shopping centres, hospital rooms etc.

Keep smoking its your choice, but its a bitch trying to breathe when your lungs don't work, hopefully you die of some disease which doesn't involve your lungs, because its a bitch trying to breathe with the weight of an elephant sitting on your chest.

`The fact is you stink`
Not sure about that one.
People that don`t use underarm deodorant, people with jobs that involve foul odours, people that cycle/jog etc etc.
The world is full of unpleasant smells, but smokers are not tolerated.

Getting back to my original post, i am man enough to admit i am wrong if these anti-smokers/lobbyists with all there facts that they keep pushing, give me some concrete evidence that Fumes from a car are less damaging to the environment and public health than Passive Smoke.
I knew that there would be some negative responses to this post, i also know that most of these negative responses are because
these people like to push there views about what THEY don`t like or agree with, but these same people don`t like it when
they are on the other end and have no legitimate defense/response.
Instead of calling me a troll (i had to google that word to find out what it means) just reply with some facts or something constructive and related to the subject.
You don`t have to agree with what i posted, but try to understand it and not reply with idiotic comments.

Subsonic : What's your other username? , i don`t understand what you mean by that ?
I joined this forum earlier today after seeing yet more slurs against smokers, so i am simply standing up for myself as a smoker.
But truly people that drive cars have no right to comment on the detrimental effects of passive smoking.
One car (YOUR CAR) puts out an average of 4.7 metric tons of toxic gases per year, how many cigarettes would i have to smoke per year to equal that ?.
So as i said earlier to all those anti-smokers, sell your car and find alternative transportation or if you think a car is absolutely vital trade it in on a Hybrid vehicle. Anti-smokers are so sure that passive smoke is so bad for their and everyone else`s health, i am saying to you `lead by example`, get rid of your toxic emitting car, then and only then will i believe your concerns.
I am close to 60 years old and have been smoking for 42 of those years, my dad smoked every day of his life he died in his eighties and it was not a smoke related death.
He used to put us on his knees when we were kids whilst smoking.
Eight children all still alive all smoke or used to smoke, my parents oldest child (My sister) is in her late 70`s and still going strong.
People need to stop looking for a scape goat when it comes to the environment and public health issues and start with the priorities when it comes to pollution, surely that would mean starting with motor vehicles , lobbying against Car Manufactures first, then work your way down the list. I think you will find Passive smoke along way down that list.

Another smoker trying to justify their poisonous addiction....Do yourself and family a favour...Quit.

I smoked for 40 years...enjoyed it. and would love to keep on smoking, but I stopped 5 years ago.

People should have a right to smoke, similarly they don't have a right to impose their smoking on other people.

CO2 emissions from smoking is nil effect. The tobacco plant took CO2 out of the atmosphere, smoking returned it.

Burning fossil fuels, returns carbon that was locked away to the atmosphere.

i would love to have your incredible sense of smell,

well, after a lifetime of smoking, I am hardly surprised your sense of smell is shot

You swerved into a big truth.
Your sense of smell gives you your sense of taste, can't have one w/o the other.
I used to be a pack a day smoker for about 10 years, then I quit cold turkey, it wasn't that hard, mind over matter.
While smoking I was putting all kinds of salt and pepper on my food to make it taste better, after I quit my sense of taste returned. Now days I enjoy the taste of food much better, and I don't have to season the sh!t out of it to make it taste good.
Quit smoking and enjoy taste again, you may not even realize what you're missing out on because it's been so long.

If you like your car, then of course the engine gets the very best of everything. Best lubricants, best air filters, best exhaust, etc. Now here comes the real bit...would you intentionally throw a bucket of dust into your air filter ?

Your lungs are your air filter. You dare to sabotage them by doing any of the stupid things, then you are a brave soul, and we wish you a happy ending in your old age.

There are more than enough pollution out there. Unfortunately, we can't stop them even if we wanted to because some of them are just the by-products of what sustains our way of life. To add another dimension to the level of pollution is sheer madness.

I used to smoke.

Heaps.

For a long time, from a young age

Quit

Love life, never wake up thinking if I have cancer.

I'm not out of the woods because of the length of time I smoked.

Please be true to that inner voice. You don't need smokes. You'll feel better and won't ever have to apologise to your loved ones for dying young.

I'm mostly a non-smoker, but have the odd puff after several beers! ;) (and I'm very mindful to pay my way, and donate $1 / pay $1 for 1 ciggie, from the person I get one from!).

But, my point, you (the original post generator) are probably complaining about only 15% of the population which whine!!... Perhaps 5% smoke, 80% don't give a stuff what you do, and 15% are a "pain in the ass"!! LoL!

If you're addicted to nicotine, that's fine, there are lots of ways to still feed the demon. Gum, lozenges, patches, vaping... it's all possible. Smoking itself is a really inefficient way to get the nicotine hit, and really does a lot of damage. If you're not ready to stop feeding the demon, then try another way to get your hit. It's a lot more socially acceptable, and way cheaper.

Well, if you want to get pedantic,

What about the land clearing to make space for 'baccy - wouldn't it be better used for food crops?
Water, fertilizer and chemicals to grow the stuff, timber burnt to dry the 'baccy.
[one study I read earlier, stated that it takes 3 pounds of timber to dry 1 pound of 'baccy]
Then there is fuel to transport it to factories.
Energy to run the factory, [hydro, gas, coal or nuke's??] and manufacture the chemicals, paper and plastics involved in processing and packaging the ciggies.
More transport [energy] storage [energy] distribution [energy] before it gets to the shop.
Having 'baccy in your shop pushes up insurance premiums, [well - it did for us in our little country shop] due to the risk of break-ins, ram raid damage and theft.

Then ........muggins comes along and buys his smokes and gets upset when they cost too much.
And last of all- the wrappers, butts and smoke.

My opinion - apart from the health risks to the smokers - primary and secondary, tobacco is a hell of a waste of resources.

The way I see it, if you want the filthy stuff - grow it yourself, [tax man might not agree though] and use it well away from anyone else.

Available? Yes in the U.S. and the resources can be found in all 50 states.
Safer? Who knows, probably not, but maybe.
Tastes better? Who knows, probably not, but maybe.
Cheaper? Yes, it's not encumbered with a tobacco tax, and requires no farming.
As addictive? Probably, yippie-yai-yo-kai-yay!!!
Second hand smoke? Keep that crap away from me.

I think targeting smoking is valid, but also unfair. I think smokers have become an easy target.

You can walk up to someone who is smoking and say "you're smoke is annoyiing me" but say that to a fat person guzzling down 4 big macs and you're being insenstive, yet obesity has overtaken smoking as the biggest killer in Australia.

People will say that smoking doesn't effect other people in public, but try sitting next to an obese person on a flight and see if you still think the same thing. I sat next to someone a week ago where their stench was incredible whilst they overlapped into the seat so I was squashed against the wall. Charge them more for seats on a plane, and there will be an outcry when in reality 5% have valid medical reasons. They complain about how food is an outcome of being bullied, and yet smokers couldn't claim the same.

No, I'm not anti obese, I'm just pointing out the hypocracy. As someone rightly pointed out, if you created a smoking only pub, people would still complain.

Man just quit, even if you have to vape. I did now a couple of months ago and have never felt better. Smoked for 22 years and loved the cigs. It's quite amazing how your whole perspective changes after you have quit and you suddenly look back going wtf was I thinking??
The vape still gives me nicotine and carries on the habit but god the difference in price and coughing is so amazing. My youngest daughter said to me the other day "Dad, you have gotten rid of your cold after ages!" I asked what do you mean - I didn't have a cold? She said, yes, you were coughing from it all the time... She's five and thought I had a cold her whole life so far.

I would start coughing and just wonder when the blood was going to end up in that tissue. Fantastic feeling not to worry about that anymore.

As for smoking near other people, just be considerate and if you are far enough away that they can't breath your smoke, no issues.

Don't listen to anyone, they're just trying to control you, and make you conform to their way... kind of like how you started smoking.

Now you're a smoker, stand firm, stand up for your right to give yourself any nasty disease you want and enrich some other c**t. FYI, your smokes probably cost $0.3 to make, and the tobacco is some weird ammoniated bleached GMO mutant that bears no resemblance to the original.

I'd smoke nice aged organic, full leaf cigars, but fark me they're expensive, $50 for something half decent just aint worth it.

Vaping is OK if you go for a cloud chasing setup, but most flavours taste like crap and who knows what they do in your lungs... I've had no ill effect apart from a couple nic rushes.

If u want to quit, there's nothing like a nagging wife that will make u want to kill yourself, her or give up... giving up is the easiest option.

Btw smoking (nic) makes you *smarter, probably why it's so unpopular in Straya, and it isn't even very addictive outside of those GMO, chemical freak sticks you can buy in freaky green packaging at your local.

Smokers pay a lot of money for cigarettes, I guess it stops them looking weird and going around and sucking on car exhausts or taking up some other destructive habit like over eating or some other form of drug. Mum smoked a pack a day for over forty years, died of lung cancer, could never give up until the day of her diagnosis, quit cold turkey, huh!...that was pointless. Dad had leukemia, died of complications from lung cancer, never smoked a cigarette.

Haven't heard of too many people dying by automobile fumes, unintentionally.

When you moved the furniture in our house everything had a tar outline, atleast you knew where things went, the car came equip with the cigarette lighter, the overflowing ashtray and if it rained the windows would stay up, she'd just smoke in that car with all of us in it, be like a seventies nightclub in there. Smokers stink and it's avoidable stink, I work in an office with two, if they were people who played sport and got sweaty and were a bit stinky then went and had a shower it would be okay, if they didn't wear deodorant and they were stinky I could talk to them about, but you can't do anything about the ugh stink of a smoker, they smell like something dead, literally like and old, stale ashtray. Smoking is about as logical as having a company come up with an acid that tastes awesome, so good people can't stay away from it but sipping it is slowly killing them and their paying big dollars for the privilege.

My mum never drove a car, my dad never smoked.....

Some people smoke and drive cars also !!! They must be the biggest blight upon the Earth, especially the fat ones

It sounds crazy, but you really can't smell the ciggie stench when you are a smoker. I was honestly astonished after quitting recently - put a jacket on that I hadn't worn in a few months and it smelt like an ashtray left in the rain!!

Cigs are an amazing drug - you literally feel like they are a part of you and can't imagine life without smoking.

That is until you go a week without them. Then you start to question yourself a bit.
Then it's been two weeks and you go to the atm to get out $200 as you do every Monday afternoon, put it in your wallet and see there is still $250 in there.

By the 3rd week you go to the atm out of habit as you get off the bus and feel awesome trying to stuff all this cash in your wallet as you normally use your card for everything but cigs.

By the fourth week you are at the shops and your daughters see a big sale at the clothing store they love. You don't wait outside and have a smoke while they browse stuff you can't afford - you spend more than $450 on clothes for your girls and they walk out of the store with so many bags, it's like Christmas to them! They can't stop rabbiting on about how excited they are. You've not even used your card and still have 3 fifty's in your wallet.

By the fifth week you can't believe how different breathing is, that it's effortless, it's always been just something you actually thought about. Now you don't need to think about breathing. There is still cash in your wallet and you haven't been to the atm in two weeks. You start to wonder why the hell you waited this long (22 years) to stop smoking.

Then, well, I'll let you know what happens next week.
