An old woman was walking down the road when she saw a gang of thugs beating a poisonous snake. She rescued the snake and carried it back to her home, where she nursed it back to health. They became friends and lived together for many months. One day they were going into town, and the old woman picked him up and the snake bit her. Repeatedly. "O God," she screamed, "I am dying! Why? I was your friend. I saved your life! I trusted you! Why did you bite me?"The snake looked up at her and said, "Lady, you knew I was a snake when you first picked me up."
Excerpt from Better Than Sex: Confessions of a Political Junkie (Gonzo Papers vol. 4) by Hunter S. Thompson.

Ironically this was written about Bill Clinton and of course politics in general.

Great ....... The elites are no good, selfish, have stuffed up more than we all realise and made a big mess and they got the population's message that they are not amused.....agreed ......so let's put in a real narcissistic fascist **** with no qualifications, total disregard for global warming , experience and naive, dangerous ideas that he hopefully won't implement and hopefully turns out to be much more, strategic, worldly, competent, compassionate and intelligent than he makes out on tv. Yes, maybe something good comes out of it but I would not jump for joy yet and indeed read history and realise this can go badly wrong when you look at other periods when fascism took charge on the back a disgruntled population in an increasingly fragile world. Adolf got them their jobs back but it wasn't a pleasant ride in the end. Hopefully the white male rascists that made the difference for trump will still have enough rights to be able to kick him out when it turns out they are even worse off than before. God help us all if this goes wrong ... Trump with access to a nuclear button and no realistic plans doing foreign policy. His best friend Putin will give him great advice. Another great human being. We will be relying on the same lobby groups and bureaucrats that the population is disgruntled with to temper this nutter.

We are lucky to be well away from the northern hemisphere with good beaches and good winds.

One-at-a-time.

Obamacare hasn't actually fixed the actual problem: "MASSIVE insurance and drug prices". They are still massive and will continue to stay that way.

Obamacare hasn't made the insurance and drug prices any cheaper. If anything they've gone up because now the cost is spread across the entire country, and can be charged as such. It is actually a half-arsed, band-aid solution that sounds idealistic but in reality bears no resemblance to systems in advanced countries.

Trump's plan is to stop the corrupt monopoly that drug and insurance companies are. Poetically it is curing the disease not treating the symptoms.

No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.

The Australian Health Insurance system sucks! I can't say this enough as many, many other people are saying the last few years. I'm just waiting for a royal commission. It's a scam. We're all led to believe that we have free, universal health care but nothing could be further from the truth. I found out the hard way when I had some issues last year; they don't actually cover you for much, and they don't really cover you for anything more than Medicare covers anyway. If a system is complicated it's a scam.

PS I'd like to add here that it is kinda scary being a (bit of a) supporter of Trump as whenever I mention it people get really, really hostile and call me a hater. I've had people yell into my face.

It's obvious that the global population as a whole is sick of the corrupt politicians, and want to see the system shaken up. I can't see yet whether electing Trump will be good for the system, or bad for it.

Elites. Look at your central bankers and those that own these privatised institutions. Then look at the owners of large global corporations that have a lobbying interest, career politicians, regulators and anyone who serves to gain economic rent through governmental policies. The parasites that don't generally produce anything but suck on the nipple of phoney money, cheap credit, globalisation and the complete regulatory increasing centralised power.

Remember just like athletes, technology, nearly every facet of human endeavour these guys have just got far more sophisticated and better at what they do. The modern feudal lords of our time are the best ever historically speaking.

Unfortunately the vampires have sucked too much blood from the real economy and the slaves are getting restless.

Trust me you'd rather not know anyway it's so damn depressing especially from a historical perspective. Stay dumb the village idiot does t have many problems.

Just like the tags "Leftard" and "Rightard", the term "Elite" is a vague, and like most words, subjected to various interpretation. Most of them are wrong anyway. John Howard, the Pauline Hanson One-Policy Party, and a few other loud-mouth no-good losers, like to use the term "elite" to paint people who are not like them, and possibly better educated than them, in a negative light. To put it in a butshell, to put someone down because they disagreed with them, or saw the folly in their world views.

You muppet. You are talking about issues with your private health company by sayin they don't cover more much more than Medicare. Up your premiums.

However, what we have, that the Americans don't IS Medicare. That's what people mean by universal coverage. Obamacare was moving to address that. Obamacare (the purchasing of health insurance you are talking about) was the introduction of the equivalent of our Medicare levy. Everyone pays and everyone benefits. Break a leg, go a hospital, get it fixed. It ain't like that inAmerica. You will pay for any service rendered. It wasn't about lowering private insurance premiums. Could you possibly misunderstand the topic more? Or are you seriously suggesting we should get rid of Medicare? I'm not sure now. It'd be funny if it wasn't sad...

I'd argue, as a multi-billionaire, that Trump is the epitome of these "elites" people are rabbiting on about.

I also believe some people actually act for the common good. Being so cynical about human nature is sad. There are many many instances of altruism.

You gotta love the idea that the whole of human history is the product of a conspiracy of the "elites". It's farcical.

If you dig deep enough you'll see those that are pushing for such health changes have a financially motivated reason, ie director/ shareholder etc or at the very least a relative acting on their behalf, same here with penny Wong giving luncheons to lesbian and gay groups at $30,000 a pop

A true story that will help answer the question.
Back in 2007 thru 2009 we had a housing market crash which lead to what the libs here like to call "the great recession". People all over the country were loosing their homes because most of them bought homes that they couldn't afford, sub-prime lending was in effect (no longer allowed) which mistakenly allowed people who couldn't qualify for a conventional home loan, able to buy way over their heads.
The crash happened coast to coast, except for one relatively small area, the neighborhoods around DC which houses all the members of the federal government and their staffs. They all live in a happy bubble that doesn't even come close to what was/is really happening around the country, and are unaffected by it.
Those are the elites.

exit polls have clearly shown that the people that voted for trump are mainly medium income to high income, white, mainly men, with no college education.

You are both right and wrong, MastBender. You are right about the areas quarantined from the crash. But I venture to say there were many areas also escaped such disaster as these were the rich folks' backyards. So I believe you are wrong to suggest staff of the Federal government was immunised because they worked for the government. Could it because they have a stable job in the first place ? Also could it possible that they actually know how to read and write to begin with ? Read and write ? Why is it necessary ? Because one needs to understand what that home loan contract said, innit ?

So the term "elite" is nothing more than just a derogatory term use to tarnish people whom you dislike for whatever reasons. One I can think of is jealousy. For example, someone with a better education than you are is now an "elite". Because he is an elite, he is unlike those with less education. He is a wanker who is up himself all the time. Our politicians here tend to use that term to put down hombres who disagreed with its policies. One of the targets are the lawyers, academics, and people who exposed the government's follies.

In the current environment is USA, Trump wants to drain the swamp of elite. I thought he got fat from going to bed with the elite ? Nearly a $billion of tax he didn't have to pay, and he wants to drain the f-king swamp ? This guy has thick skin, in orange !

Quite a rant ! Last thing first, boof. The educated class you so despised may just have created the "jobs and growths" your conservatives mates such as Turnbull spruiked for all these time. Did you mate Wally who can hardly count, read and write, design Holden and Ford cars? Or he just bought one with the dole money ?

Just because you and your mates who are too bloody lazy to spend time on learning, and instead drinking and pissing up the wall, doesn't mean the educated hombres need to follow your lead to the dead end. Just another thing, NOT ALL are cut out for better education. Some, perhaps you are one of them, are just not quite making the grade?

Your grand kids' pocket money? I never thought education is free. You have to pay it back, don't you?

So in your bottomless well of wisdom, the "pinkoes" and the "unwashed" used technology to win election? Where were you for the last 20 years? Technology had been used by all politicians, some successful, and some were crap.

Climate Change elevated your blood pressure? How is it possible for someone with little education to understand the science. Need more "empirical evidence" ?

Idiotic tax? I thought politicians of all persuasion used taxation to buy votes. So what is your point, amigo ?

Time to take your medication and have a lie down, You exerted way too much. Rebel without a bloody clue, innit ?

Incorrect
the elites are generally left wing ( democrat ) types who are holier than thou .....these are the ones who are in shock, disbelief that their candidate lost because how could they because they are so right.
They are the ones protesting in the street because they cannot accept the majority decision.
They are the ones who scream racist or bigot at the mere mention of a negative fact regarding a ethnic minority
They are the ones who scream homophobe ( or similar )if your opinions regarding LGBTIQ people differ from theirs.
They are the ones who feel they are the most progressive, most entitled, and most importantly the most right.

The elite are not defined by a level of wealth but by a perceived higher intelligence both intellectual and emotional.
They generally live in inner city bubbles and have no time for the opinions of those outside these bubbles.
They are often the very vocal minority.... who have probably just realised the silent majority are learning to roar.

I see people as similar to computers, there's good ones and bad ones. The good ones can run a lot faster and do things that the slow one can't. Where the good one has no trouble the other may freeze and then decide that the task is impossible. They don't know that to others it is an easy task.

I struggle to see how brains are not similar. To lefties the right just seem a tad slow. The righter the slower. They just can't comprehend some ideas no matter how much evidence gets thrown to them. It's quite hard not to think of the slower computer as inferior. Try as you might.

Thieves are a whole different thing though. Lefty crooks may steal more and a little less obviously, but they are still crooks. They deserve their time in jail. If only we could give jail time to people with low morals.

I'm a greeny though, so don't like either side much.

No, that's ok Harry, this election provides material for anybody to assert any sort of agenda no matter what. If you have an anti political correctness angle you can claim this election vindicates your agenda. Elites, globalisation, new world order, Clinton the criminal etc etc. whatever your little angle you can try to push it.

but.

facts are facts.

the trump voter is generally, a white man who earns 50 grand a year or more and is middle aged or older.

Funny isnt it. I'm sure there are rust belt, x auto worker, living on the poverty line type people in these stats, but the idea that Trump is for the low paid, the poor, the disadvantaged etc is wrong.

Again, your man won, and good luck to you......but it'd be good if we could use facts

Incorrect
the elites are generally left wing ( democrat ) types who are holier than thou .....these are the ones who are in shock, disbelief that their candidate lost because how could they because they are so right.

You missed the point loggy... it not necessarily that Trump is for the "low paid, poor and disadvantaged " you have trump because the "low paid , poor and disadvantaged are sick of being TOLD how they should ACT how they should THINK and how they should FEEL by the elitest left.
A middle class Christian family working in the so called rust belt who due to their beliefs don't necessarily support homosexual relationships are told / screamed at they are wrong that they are homophobes.
A middle class working family in Texas who's home had been broken into in a violent home invasion by ( lets say Mexican immigrants ) for the third time, along with 3 other families in their street form a view on Mexican immigration that is sympathetic to Trumps preaching.... for doing this they are screamed at as being racists bigots by lefty elitests in Maine ( who met a Mexican once in a Taco Bell)
These are this millions of people across America who have an equal right to their opinion as their counter opposites.... it's just they don't force their opinions onto everyone else as the elitest left have... Trump has given them that voice they they felt was unheard
