Is that per capita?
It has never been a secret that China's emissions were going to increase as the nation industrialised. They say that they are going to start reducing CO2 emissions soonish.
And a proportion of their emissions is due to manufacturing there for consumption in the richer nations. Fair accounting would allow for that.

Since China is the main manufacturing workshop in the world, numbers reflect only industrial output. They release Co2 because they do manufacture things that countries at the lower graph do consume. The point is China is a world leader in implementing green energy production with total solar and wind power increase eclipsing all others. If we use statistics and graphs, we need to understand how to read use them correctly. A country like Australia could become carbon neutral in no time at all, but only because doesn't produce any material goods that the population consumes. Invalid use of such statistics also could be harmful to a country involved like Australia.Quite logical seem to be making our own steel, even export excess since we mine iron ore and coal -then main components. But when we attempt to build a steel mill that will turn co2 statistic against us. So better hide head in the sand and sent those to China to damage their statistic and pollute their air, not ours. For global thinkers - the production of the steel on Australia territory will only reduce total CO2 emission globally = due to lower transport costs and possibility of utilizing better technology, the strictest emission regime, even using solar energy to melt iron ore in the mills.

... is the population of China more than North America, EU, UK, India, Japan and Aus combined ?

I'd suggest the answer to both questions is "no".

Add in the figures for 2019, then the figures for a pandemic 2020 and you might find hints as to an answer ?

yep, from now on we will be selling only items made in Australia like solar panels, power tools, household items , microwaves and washing machines. Not sure what we could buy then for that money earned, possibly not much, like umbrella made of bamboo for our rainy country will good

Even a five year old knows that it is Australia's pissant little contribution that is causing global warming and major climate change.

It just occurred to me that the problem would be even bigger if not for Mao's contribution by way of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. How bad would it be now if China had started rapid development in 1960 instead of 1990?

Find a modern day Chairman Mao Zedong. Bring back centralised planning, five year plans for industrialisation. Bring back campaigns for out with the old and in with the new. Encourage people to melt down their pots and pans to make iron. Denounce rightist, capitalists, property holders and anti revolutionaries. Send them out to camps where they are to be reeducated or killed.

The reality is 40 years of Socialism under Chairman Mao and the Chinese Communist Party from 1949 to 1989 did more to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide on a global level than any other single factor.

When ordinary people end up having to dress themselves in straw because they are too poor to buy clothes, their activities are going to be fairly carbon neutral. They will also end up dead at the age of around 40 and most probably resort to cannibalism as they starve to death.

But if Australia reduced emissions to zero, China would feel obliged to immediately do the same...surely?

It's not really rocket science.....France seems to keep thier CO2 emissions per capita at the lowest of the developed countries and falling.

I wonder what they do differently...

That graph will get worse now China is urging its power plants and mills to use its own coal reserves.
China coal quality is like comparing Kerosene to Aviation fuel.
Less BTU per ton.
That's why they like Australian coal, more BTU per ton burnt. Burn less for same output.
Now they have to burn more to stay abreast of outputs.

Yes , it is working !!! Whole world is listening.

Few days ago we posted idea here about substituting dirty steel production with clean hydrogen !!

Look, how fast they do react here to our proposal

When I visited China last the government had banned burning coal for heating of workshop so we were installing a gas line to fuel the furnace.
Government owned power plants will probably still use coal though.

When I lived in the Philippines they were burning Australian coal for power generation.
During the day the smoke wasn't too bad, when it got dark they would turn up the wick

Touch parking. That's what they do differently.
It's a little unnerving when your cabbie does it as you leave the airport but wonderfully amusing to watch from the hotel balcony in the city.

Not produce much.
Apart from Renoult , I have never read ," made in France " .
Champagne, smelly cheese perhaps. Oh , fast windsurfer
And windsurfers , mustard , perfume , invented pencil sharpeners
Probably nothing you could buy in Bunnings.
Ill shut up now

possibly if we could only manufacture Prada bags at $30,000 a piece from our crocks, and shoes at $20,000 , hats from kanguuru skin$5000 each , then we could also reduce our CO2 emissions and only drink French champagne whole day and snack our toad frogs tights straight from BBQ.

Don't worry France is firing up their old coal stations because they have shut down a nuclear reactor. So they are doing their best to increase the CO2.
Also as mentioned nothing on a large scale gets manufactured in France any more.
Try the made in China test. Don't touch or look at something made in China for 24 hrs.
The rest of the world can't bitch and complain about China's pollution whilst mass consuming from them.
Thats just my dumb ass opinion though.

I think very few people are aware of what happens in China and where this economic growth started. It's worth looking at their governments successes to gain an insight into why the growth took place.
"In 2015, the government of the People's Republic of China initiated the "Decisions of the Central Committee of the CCP and the State Council on Winning the Battle of Poverty Eradication" with the aim to lift 70 million of the rural population above the poverty line until 2020."
This has been an almost universal success, however to achieve this goal, the previously unforeseen environmental impacts have been it's payoff.
Have a search on Google for China's environmental success stories - there are many - and you might find that their current goal for their people is for clean air and clean water. China leads the way on many environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives. They currently manufacture all the electric taxi's that London has demanded come into action. They also manufacture much of the Worlds solar panels and are starting to decommission fossil fuel power stations. Don't be fooled by the media machine that only wants to feed you one side of the story. Go looking for facts to the contrary. You can spin the facts whatever way you want, but please be open to looking for a different reality.
