I was reading this morning that people think that the swabs for testing are implanting microchips...

For crying out loud, its amazing how stupid people are. They know nothing about microchips, and they know nothing about what things are capable of, so they believe some fairy story that some other idiot has told them.

Maybe the government need to be a bit more clever with this stuff and make the testing swabs available from all chemists, maybe they are, and people can buy their own if they are worried and can test them if they like.

Maybe this is the answer to whether there are other intelligent civilizations out there. There were, but they all died off due to becoming too clever for themselves and killed themselves through social media.

Are they really blocking the border between NSW and Victoria? Do they do it exactly, i.e. is Albury seperated from Wodonga? That makes little sense as a lot of people probably travel between the two for work.

The latest testing figures are interesting. 28k Vic yesterday. The next best is NSW at 17k on the 3 of July. Vic leading again !!. Sorry to see NSW and Queensland headed down the drain again. Test the crap out of the population, it's the only way to sort this thing out.
The surf was perfect again too . 2 out

Yep, test, test, and then test some more. I guess this goes to show that you can't trust individuals and next time it should be the ADF that are securing these hotels instead of rent a guards.

You can sort of understand why people let this stuff happen. We have not seen anything like this before and people think it will be okay because its not obvious when something happens.

Ultimately, if it starts to take off, the only answer is to divide all people up into smaller groups that are isolated, and then test them until you find groups with it, and then quarantine them till they are covid free again.

Well, having competent leadership and a decent management system might be just a little better than managing (failing to manage?) the outcomes.

The nation needs to be analysing the failings of Victoria in real time, learning from their mistakes and putting things into place to avoid landing in a similar situation...

Nah, if I as a business injurer an employee or public I'm responsible. Not the Government. Contracting then sub contracting then independent workers is the real villain. With very little training at the end worker . It's all about $$$$

What was the original intent behind calling in the ADF? I thought there was something in the news about bringing in the army to do something. Was it originally intended to have them secure these quarantine areas?

In this case, I would argue that it can't be left to private enterprise to take responsibility. Its a national emergency and you don't just hand over something like that to random people.

If you want to draw a parallel with something like the Pink Batts scheme, its very different. In that case it was a scheme to deploy insulation. Normally not a dangerous thing. In this case, securing potentially infected people is a critical thing. Someone has made a poor decision in allowing this to go out to contractors. They have not realised the risks to doing this.

I guess it is one of those things, we are learning as we go, and hopefully we learn quicker than we need to.

Coolangatta and Tweed have had the same issue for some time. The border is effectively in the middle of suburbia. Locals are given passes and move freely across the checkpoints.

We've had about 10,000 cases identified in Oz. Let's assume the actual number is thirty times higher... 300,000. Only just over 1% of the population. We're really not in any different position than we were in February.....at this rate it will go on for years!

To be fair, this seemed to have been caused by someone screwing up the requirements for quarantine. Someone has decided that it was okay to have security guards looking after our national security.

Now, the governments have to get tougher. Quarantine for everyone from overseas, and make it impossible to escape. People are selfish.

Dani Minogue seems to have gotten an exemption as she has a private place she can quarantine. If she is honest and takes it seriously, all good. If it were someone else that doesn't care, like that guy that rode his motorbike from Vic to Qld, then we need to insist that they are quarantined where the government can keep an eye on them.

I think this should mean that no-one, not even Dani Minogue, gets the option to choose where they quarantine. The risks are too high for it to become the judgement call of some random person.

If this becomes contained again, what is to stop some other 'nice' person thinking that the rules are too harsh and letting some other selfish git risk everyone else in the country?

It's only the government's fault if one is a right wing troll talking about a very popular Labor government that won an election in a landslide.

Simples.

For every other issue a troll can't deal with rationally, it's Bono's fault. Blame the Bono.

Well, I don't care. I think it is the government's fault. They are ultimately the ones that make the decision to go one way or the other, and I think we can all assume that there are plently of layers in the system where people get to make decisions that might not be the best ones.

If we want to spread the blame, the federal government should be insisting or strongly advising how individual states handle their containment measures. It should be easy to have a minimum standard so that individual states cannot weasel out of them.

2 things could happen. They'll get a vaccine going (Though the good news stories on vaccines are thinning out ) or we'll get better at treating those that catch it and let it go.

The third solution, which won't pass the ethics committee, is to get a whole lot of volunteers, isolate them in the desert, deliberately infect them, and selectively breed a milder, domesticated form of the virus.

You've got to ensure the less dangerous form confers at least some immunity against the nasty version. When released globally, the nasty version should be overwhelmed and die out.
