I loved watching it!
Yes its far away of what I do, but that isnt just age or that they are sponsored.
If been quit experienced in a lot of watersports and been sponsored in some for ages but even in my prime I wouldnt had the balls or skilllevel to do what some of those guys did. High precision, high risk it had it all.

The heat for the 3th place of Malo....awesome surfing and carving!
The final heat between Finn and Cash: wow!!
The ladies heats looked a bit less extreme because of the mens show, but Punta Preta doesnt look like an easy spot to wing and I highly doubt I would have the balls to wing there as close to the pocket as they did, so big respect for how they were riding there anyway.

I have practiced skiing, snowboarding, hang and paragliding, windsurfing, surfing and lately foiling.
I have watched very little competition coverage of any of them, and when i have it was mostly for technique , Like watching a skiing freeride or GS turn in slo mo for a hundred times, frame by frame.
I watch some bits of GWA just to see what gear and how they ride it,most of it is way out of reach.
I compete against myself, clocks and judges are not that interesting IMHO.
And all the noise about "promoting" the sport is just big manufacturer greed for more money, it sometimes kills the sport through excess of practitioners (powder riding and surfing are examples of this).
But to each his own, enjoy it.

I'd be more interested in watching a strapless wave wing foiling competition, it takes way more skill to ride a foil strapless IMO, keep the spinny flippy stuff for freestyle events. Also very jealous as at my local any wave will have 6-50 surfers sitting all through the lineup - and they are not even surfing just getting in the way!

I think you and I may be in the minority on this. I enjoy watching the surfing aspect of wave riding and if one was able to go off the lip and air without straps like surfing I'd be more interested. I'm actually also ok with the off the lip aerials holding the wing... what I don't really enjoy is the open face ollie spins nowhere near the breaking part of the wave. the little foil planing slides also are kinda fun. would be too hard to have two separate categories for straps/no straps, but perhaps the rules can be tweaked not to award tricks that have nothing to do with the wave

Does anyone know what size mast they've been using at the event?

I've been sailing with shorter masts lately, and I'm feeling good.
