Guys, what fuse do you use? 600 or 700?. I've been using the 700 more over the 600. My idea is that the 600 works better with my bigger frontwing, makes it more responsive... And the 700 better for the small wings? What is your opinion?
Any experience with the New MA1850? How is the speed, how the glide?
I, 93kg, like the MA1350 and would like to have a frontwing for less wind with my 7m wing, maybe a bit more glide...

I have both. Like the 600 with the SF930 on a small 45L board.
I also enjoyed it with the HA1050 in wind swell but prefer the 700 on flat water especially when using my DW board.
If I could only have one and lived at a wave spot I'd keep the 600.
With the DW board (6.6') the 700 feels like a better fit for both foils on flat water.
So, did anyone try the new MA850v2 already?
I really like their MA series. I use the 1200+S270 as my allround setup and the MA1050+S210 when the wind picks up. I mainly surf in messy wind waves and choppy waters.
Tried a proto in Hood River.
Context - 78 kg, 43 L board.
My daily driver is the HA850/178/60/85 from 12-40+ knts, I'll rarely take the HA650 out as unless it's double overhead, the 850 keeps up with the speed of swells. I will also ride the SF930/215/60/85 if the swell is too slow for the HA850.
I tried the MA850v2 with the 178.
Not as fast as the HA, but close, and much much faster than then SF
Smaller radius turns than both HA and SF, no locked in feeling. You can start a turn, break out of the arc at any time and turn the opposite direction. Easy-peasy
Pumps much more efficiently than the SF, similar to the HA.
Great glide, low stall speed.
I'd trade my HA850 for the MA850v2 any day.
Magic foil.
Bottom end still good on that MA850?
Sounds amazing btw, I got 26 knots on the MA1050 so keen to try that MA850 for maybe faster speed. That would put a question mark on keeping the HA650.
Lately been using the SF1080 all the time as crazy low stall speed, super turny and can still push it to 22knots. Has saved me quite a few times out in the waves when wind has dropped to 10 knots and would've been a swim in on anything else. This and the MA850 could be the ultimate combo.

which Satbilizer do you use? and shimmed?
i really like the 1degree Shim for the SF930/S208 and MA1050/S208

S210 and haven't tried shim yet. Got a S178 arriving soon to go w the HA650. Keen to hear more feedback on the smaller SF and MA wings.
Maybe a pump n glide series? Bigger than the SF1230 and AR8-9.
Patiently waiting ..
New freestyle front wing? A bit like Naish?

That's a chopped HA i think, the new MA850 will be a good freestyle wing

i think so too. i know from another teamrider who chopped the North HAs. I am happy with my HAs (1150, 950, 750) but for the 1150 i wished a little bit more turning (although i turns great for a 110cm span). I was therfore waiting for the SF series, but as i learned that the have a slow profile i decided also to chop my 1150HA........best decision: I can not feel any difference in performance (regarding glide, low end, speed, ventilation) but it just turns better now and thus is so much more fun for turns, jibes and tacks.
And the chopped tips give me also a safer feeling as i am not cruising with a dagger anymore.
Chopped now also all my other HAs (5 cm on each side (HA 1150, HA950), 3cm on each side of the 750HA)).

Interesting! I didn't know people were doing this. Can you share some pictures (if you have also of the chopping process)? I know the Sonar stabs have dotted lines on them especially for chopping if one wishes to.
I get that unsafe feeling... the HA1050 has punctured all my Nova wings! In terms of riding qualities, I guess ventilation becomes an issue?

This Ha 850 is not going to puncture any more wings , no problems with ventilation, it is only 650 wide!

Chopped it like the Naish Mach 1 (that the ends are not compeletly parallel to the fuse - The Mach 1 is also a nice wing but my chopped 1150 is faster and has less drag :-) ............ try to post a pic soon).
No ventilation issues and with the 1150 (now a span of 1000 instead of 1100mm) i am still getting the tips out of the water a lot and keep on carving.
Yes, beside my own safety, the risk of puncturing the wing dramatically decreased........... and after experiencing the performance with that chopped front wings i see no reason to ride daggers anymore. And even the SF and MA have tips i don't want to collide with.
Hi all,
I'm looking into the North sonar range and I hope you guys can help me. I now ride a f-one phantom 1480 which I like but I'm looking for something faster with more glide. But one the other hand I do need the lowend of the 1480. I mostly ride gusty lakes for now. I've been riding for one year, jibes are good, some tacking. I weigh about 90 kg wet. Winds here are between 12-30 knots, mostly 15-20. 4 and 5 m wings.
I'm thinking about a MA1200 or a HA1250. For a main foil. And then maybe adding something bigger for lightwind days.
Will the MA be a step up from the phantom in performance?
OR should I look at the HA?
And in what sizes? About 1200 or smaller?
If I have chosen the 'main' front wing, what would be a good lightwind front wing, which is still fun to ride?
Thanks a lot!![]()

If you want faster and more glide (yet good turning) go for the HA. I am 73 kg and loving the HA1050 which has still a great low end (allows me in 10 - 18 kts) to have good flatwater fun.
Given your weight maybe go for HA1250 indeed. You can later upgrade to HA1050 or smaller. Given you're 1 year foiling you'll get the HA going. Needs 2-3 sessions to get dialed in from a bigger M/L aspect like the Phantom
Thanks! HA is the way to go
. I will look into the HA1250 then. And for a lightwind option one of the larger HA in the future?

You probably will get the HA1250 so well dialed in (if you give it time and stick to it) that you'll end up going out in lighter and lighter winds! It could become your LW weapon and then the 1050 or smaller is up for grabs for the windier days. If still needing LW power then the larger HA or better the SF1230 could be good for LW.
Anyone know which line up (HA or SF) would be better to learn dock starting and pumping?
SF1230 hands down with the S215 tail.
Just curious, 1230SF w S215, shimmed or unshimmed?

Thanks. Was watching the difference between your cadence w the 930 and 1230 and I guess it's no coincidence my 1080 cadence is somewhere in between. Just ordered the 1230 for super light wind and small wavelets. I wing/Sup/surf foil but dock starts will be new to me.

No shims, but that's a personal thing. You have to try and figure out what works for you.Start with no shim, find the mast position, then once that's dialed in, add shims to see what happens.
Anyone know when the rest of the updated MA range is coming out? The 1050, 1200 etc were showing on the video but aren't on the North website yet.
I've now got the SF930 and SF1080, as well as MA1050 and HA650.
For a while the MA1050 was my go-to wing for everything, but I'm now getting more and more into the SF range. The HA650 is an incredibly exhilarating ride (esp w 178 stab) and super fast, though needs consistent high winds and a lot more technique to stay fast all the time (espec in gybes and tacks). I'll keep this for high winds.
Been interesting comparing the SF930 to 1080. Was using the 1080 a lot and had some great sessions including down-the-line wingfoil waverides and got it to 23knots down a swell, but now totally loving the SF930. It's faster (yesterday I pushed it to 25.3 knots) and more agile/looser. It also has amazing pump'n'glide (perhaps tiny bit less than the 1080), but the extra speed and agility makes it overall more fun. I can only imagine how good the smaller sizes will be.
So, I may well now consolidate to the SF930 and HA650 but will do bit more testing to gauge if I still need the 1080 for very light days as it's got me up in 8-10knots with a 6.0.
