Yeah B, I wouldn't let anyone ride my $2400usd wing either. I'd even be reluctant to use it![]()
I'll stick with my Strikes (or almost any other) and put the bulk of my bucks under the water as per Eppo.
Could be as after five years of this sport the enthusiasm started to fall off a bit even two years ago. I might even pick up a paddle again despite promising my shoulders never again![]()
Meanwhile, there is no canopy stretch. That's already been debunked![]()
Ultra premium wings make the most sense in light wind. But in 5 years time I expect electric assist to be the norm.
I pretty much only ride swell and for me, the AA wings are all I want to ride. I expect to ride the 3m 95% of the time and it's such a joy in the hand when surfing. If you haven't tried it, you really can't comprehend the difference. For me, it was the biggest single upgrade I've ever made to my wingfoil kit.
no doubt except the biggest upgrade i have made is what's under the board cause when im on a swell or wave the wing doesnt matter much to me.
I thought that too!

Yeah, I'm quivered up for foils and was completely happy with my wings until getting these. I think the comparison to the strike is most advantageous for the AA because the low end and range is so much better on these. The way I look at it is that the strikes have 33% less range, so drop the price from $2400 to $1600 on the AA to compare and they are only a few hundred different. If they really last twice as long, now the strike is way more expensive. Doesn't even take into account the fun and performance factors which are through the roof. But, some just talk price at a superficial level instead of performance. For me, I could never go back, even if I was given wings for free.
Dacron wings are disposable. The absolute most I'd spend on a new one would be $500. This being said I'm close to 1.5 years on my Cab Mantis and it still gets me around. Id pay maybe $1200 for fulll dyneema (LE and canopy) based on increased longevity.
it seems like my canopy is garbage on my Dacron wings and the LE seems fine so in terms of longevity the dyneema LE and Dacron canopy seems like a waste of time.
im still waiting on a fully molded seamless carbon North Sailing 3dl wing that is so stiff it has to be rolled.

Yeh no doubt i'm sure those wings are awesome and until i've tried one I shouldn't really comment. But man i just can't justify the cost .. better not try one that's for sure then!

As usual not happy with anything. I wonder why you bother if all the products are so ordinary.
Still really enjoying my 18 month old Dacron wings.

Oho I love my cab mantis! More just making the point that Dacron stretches out, it's not the end of the world, but for the Allula to work out financially I'd have to get like 6 years out of it.
and yeah, if something sucks I talk about it! Everyone seems to love these new stiff masts it only took 4 years of me bitching about it for the manufacturers to catch on!
I want a wing that's cheap and lasts more than 2 seasons! This is my way of telling manufacturers that! I think we could have Dacron wings with heavier Dacron for the canopy, particularly around the back 2/3 of the wing That would last many times longer. (Standard sail cloth instead of Spinnaker fabrics). I think the reason we don't have this is because the industry convinced us that weight is a more significant factor in that I actually is. It's in everyone's interest for the gear to fall apart quickly! I think we have the technology with the advanced composites to make a eight year wing, it's just more profitable to use those composites for performance(hence the lighter allula wings and smaller leading edges)
North Nova pro or mode... but then people start to complain that a wing is 800 grams heavier. Well better heavier then bagged out after 15 sessions.

Sure for the smaller sizes but say 4m and up weight is very important for say DW winging when you are 90-95 percent flagged.
Weight matters a lot more than I ever thought. As soon as I reached a certain weight point and rode aggressively with it I knew what it meant.
Most recreational riders are just there to chill and have some fun at the beach. This is the same as it was for kites and windsurfing. So, something that just sits in a basic flagged out position while they go straight dw on swell is everything they've ever needed. Heck, many never even get past the mowing the lawn phase. There's nothing wrong with that either, that's what a majority of wings are going to be fine for.
I for one am glad that some companies are pushing the limits. It just gives more options and more tech advances to us all.

Yeah, I don't do any flagged out DW winging really. I'm mostly focused on upwind powered riding, tacks, jumping, upwind wave riding (we have a wrap around swell for an upwind line at our spot). Having a tight canopy that doesn't luff through the tacks slowing me down is my #1. Id love to get
my hands on an x ply wing to feel the difference.
