That'd be a good deal, if its as good as it appears! Unfortunately, as it is from a US seller, that'd be US$$, and we would probably get to pay nearly as much again in postage to get one sent to Australia. Hopefully some local dealers will start stocking them, as it makes a lot of sense to use a retractable leash. (No leash dragging in the water, less tangles, less breakages.)
I wonder how long your retractable dog leash will last under wing-foiling loads in a saltwater environment; might be a good solution?? I'd love to hear your report here after trialling one for awhile?
I,musing the Kaholi Inviz leash now a year on the waist belt for wingfoil (on the back) and my wing attached in the front and for me in both waves and flatwater it works for me like a charm.Riding in the sea with current, waves etc without a leash would feel scary to me

I've been using my Oceanus version for about 2 years in both fresh and salt water environments. I use it for winging and also eFoil (much heavier board-more force on reel). So far, no issues. Moreover, up until the last 6 months, I used it without the shock cord board connection (ie greater force on the reel). Hopefully the BluePlanet Surf model has similar longevity
Winging. Inviz leash on waist belt works great at taking the shock off high speed crashes for me, but still new to it and it's getting tangled around my feet a lot more than coil calf leash.
I just tried the inviz leash as well and was tangled frequently so I'm ditching it after one session. Still feel like the 1/2 coil waist attachment is the best option as a winger.
I feel like I've tried most combinations of leashes, and I've found I prefer to just have a shorter ankle coil leash for everything.
But guilty pleasure is when I can wing without a leash - I'll only wing with a leash now if the current is high, I'm in bigger waves, or if there is a crowd.
I'm finding that leash plug position makes a big difference, on my old DW board the plug was near the tail and I almost never tangled, but my new one has the plug set forward near the pad and it tangles a lot more

been using the same OCEANUS reel leash since Blue Planet recommended them way back in the summer of Covid. ALWAYS attached Tu my dakine Wingfoil harness and working FLAWLESSLY for over 4 years straight! (50kms of wave riding each day, 5months per year)
100% recommended and I'm sure these new thinner models are an amazing upgrade. I've NEVER seen any other winger using them and every time I try some ones board I can't BELIEVE people put up with those terrible coiled surf leashes!!
people love to poke fun and say I'm "walking my dog" (looks like retractable dog leash obviously) but THEY have leash dragging in the water.. THEY have it break and board gets lost.. THEY get it wrapped arround the mast... THEY have it all tangled in their feet and step on it....
I'm SO THANKFUL that BLUE planet made a video years ago telling about the "repurposing" of the old OCEANUS reel leash and that I was lucky enough to take their advice! I've been tumbled in heavy waves many times and it never broke.. always 4 meters away... I removed the metal clip and connected a thick dynerma loop to the end... and use the old style Fone kite leash (which stays connected to the board) which I attach to that dynerma loop... so I've got a reliable quick release to separate from the board if and when I end up getting seriously washed in shore break. I've used that MANY times and it's saved my wing and my body from certain damage on several occasions.
best investment youll ever make and it will last FAR longer than any plastic coil leash I guarantee.

I'm just wondering how you reach the quick release which attaches the retractable leash to the extension that's connected to the board, while the leash is fully paid out and under tension from a board that's getting dragged and rolled by current and waves? I added a QR, many years ago, to separate my early model Oceanus reel from my harness on such occasions, due to finding it impossible on some occasions to reach that connection point. (Later model came with a release buckle.)
I can also vouch for the resilience of that old Oceanus reel, having used it extensively since around about 2010! I do have a 'weak link' between leash extension and my boards, which may reduce shock loadings on the reel during catapult crashes, & wash it out after every use, but I think it's been such a great piece of gear I wouldn't be without one. The upgraded Blue Planet model looks like maybe a good upgrade, when they become available here in Australia.

I believe that the board leash (waist leash rrd) may be responsible partialy or solely for this. I was thinking to solve the problem by getting blue Planet Retractable Reel Leash. However, it weights at about 1.4 lbs which is kind of bulky and I am not 100% sure that may resolve this issue.
What do you propose about solving this issue? Thank you again !!!
Just got the North board leash with quick release. I was afraid that maybe it would be too short (no length data on the website) but I really like it. Connects to my harness rear loop. Swivels work fine for untangling any tangled coil, and the QR mechanism works fine, even with some sand inside. So far so good.
I tried ankle and calf leashes (from both North and Manera) only to find that the velcro stopped working after 2 months. The Manera leash was made of nice stretch 'uphaul' line but that too was completely stretched out after 2 months.
I used a waist board leash from Gong for almost 3 years and the velcro still works 100%.
Amazing right? You'd think the higher end brands would last longer.
As for the previous question.. I'm also curious what can prevent the horrible 'board upside down scenario' and what leash works best.

I think you'll find that having a bit of extra length in a leash will reduce the likelihood of that happening, if the issue is caused by the leash at all. The combined length of the reel leash and the extension to the board will be somewhat longer than any regular leash, and it takes a while to wind the board towards you (until you pull on it) due to the board's drag, so seems like the best bet for a solution.

Has anyone managed to try Ride Engine's version of the reel leash? It looks very compact and light compared to Blue Planet Oceanus.
Here's what I made 2 years ago.
it was great, until I ripped the leash plug out. Figured either the 5mm dyneema leash was too strong or a bit too short (or poor construction on the leash plug, not sure). Used an old kite QR on the other side.
