The idea of this thread is to get some more informal/social type events going in WA.

Stemming from the success of events like the swan river down winder and social slalom racing on Wednesdays some of us would like to get more events going.

So whether it be your going to a particular pub/restaurant/movies or going to organise a downwinder/ wave or freestyle expression session or a photoshoot, post it up and get some crew involved!!!!

I propose a GTC combined WWA event where the ^ GTC categories are competed for in a day. Then at some stage in the day slalom racing is included.

I like Hardie's idea. Just need some wind!
How about we do a rolling date competition over winter called at short notice on the forecast. Could even have two locations on the same day (river and estuary) to make it easy for travel.
How about a big gear non-planing float race.

It would be good to get some freestyle events happening. Maybe on the Lancelin weekend when all the European windsurfing tourists are around. (note the political correctness)
Another idea would be to bring back the Dutchies event as a freestyle event. That way if there were no waves you still get something happening.I there are waves it's a bonus.

What about an ol' school, Regal Theatre style, movie night.

Rather than at a theatre, perhaps at a yacht club, so we can enjoy a beer whilst watching and whooting at the general radicallness shown on film!

Just a thought, but perhaps someone with some techno knowledge, could get any footage shot by members over the last season and put it into a feature length show!

I'm loving the ideas guys, keep them coming.

However the key behind the success of these events is YOU, whether WWA is involved or not with said proposed events, the aim is to get different people organising events.

for example with hoops freestyle idea: if one of the guys who actually does freestyle was to organise it and amp up his fellow freestyle mates the chances of it working out i would think would be much higher. Also the advantage of informal events with minimal organisation is the ability to switch dates even location to suit events.

Hell why not post up a time and place next time your goin for a SUP with this great weather we have atm.

Sorry windy and greenie, its not my boat and it was definitly packed to the brim already. Maybe we could charter an old cray boat or a weekend

I'd be really interested in a light wind wavesailing session with the opportunity to demo different boards.

I've yet to try my 12' SUP with a sail, but could offer that in the mix.

November on presentation day we have a gps highest display for the day, and races to the scientific platform and return, first back to the sandbar.

Jan or Feb we could do an NM and Alpha day, and Slalom Races?

I'm seriously tempted by the Rottnest trip. It would, however, have to be a fairly last minute dash'n'go, depending on whether there is wind or not.

I'll cost up hiring a cray/fishing boat to find out whether it's cost effective or not. The limiting factor being how many people and gear can we squeeze in to a boat. (and drinks and lunch and partners etc)

What would people be willing to pay for a day at the break of our choice?

$40? $50? $100?

rotto sounds great!

i'd be prepared to pay more the first time, just for the novelty. if its a good idea, can't see why it couldn't be become a regular thing, but i perhaps might not be able to justify quite the same expense to her indoors on a regular basis

so... up to $120 the first time, then $70 per trip thereafter (same as a ferry ticket return?)

Bluejuice charters who are a seabreeze sponsor had these prices on their site:

Rottnest Island Private Cruises

9hrs - byo food/drink includes crew

Blue Juice 2 - $3200
Blue Water - $3600

Maybe we could ask them to "sponsor" the event

i found out at a party last night another mob will charge $280/hr not sure of the min time though.

Maybe a convoy of small boats is the go. heaps cheaper on fuel etc.

$3200! b****** that! have to cost probably $320 each?

why don't we just buy a share in an old boat ourselves?

cost with a mooring, perhaps to $30K????? eg could buy a share in this for $25K
http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=7134909

maybe with the right boat could be a bit cheaper... I saw an old wooden clunker moored down on Blackwall Reach the other day which is the sort of thing that might (!) work - had the big area at the back which would be perfect for rigging up

I'd buy a $1000 'share' at the drop of a hat. if there were 20 of us.... partytime every weekend!

your forgetting servicing and maintenance costs.

Bluejuice 2 is lisenced to carry 50ppl to rotto!! obviously it wont do 50ppl plus windsurfing kit. but maybe you could do 30ppl with 20 sailors???

yep, that equation works... probably much cheaper than owning a 'headache' for the long term (says the voice of reason... damn, no boat, again)!

How about, in conjunction with gpstc presentations/mandurah drags, having a downwinder on the estuary, from either novara (short one) or the sailing club past the cut (long distance one), and ending at the carpark near creery?
Could vary the format, with either using gybe marks, or just picking your own course with a set start/finish. Would make a nice 1 hour competition (best with , and probably good preperation for the Ledge to lancelin...

Could even combine a few events across a weekend (short/long course slalom and speed) and make it like a scaled down version of the LOC....

Drop us a line at the shop anytime, would be happy to talk about getting you guys out to rotto for a day of windsurfing, and as users of seabreeze would be happy to look at the price for you as well. we may not be able to match a suitable price for you but we will certainly try

A year round Wave jumping contest, similar to the Airtime league on Boardseeker mag, unfortunately it would require video evidence.

A spot wave jumping contest in winter where at short notice based on forecast a location is picked, video is good for judging (we all get to see then) or judged by peers. Simple format though of height and longevity which would allow non loopers to do their thang
