Thumbs Up

G'day all,

I'm new to windsurfing...having only 3 seasons under the belt.

I travelled to Lancelin to watch the event and was amazed at the level of organisation in terms of safety etc. So much so that I am contemplating having a crack next year.

Having helped organise different fundraising events over the years I am aware that not everyone gets paid millions. I know a lot of the locals and crayboat guys are great with their time and efforts.

I didn't stay for the band or the party, and in a way I am happy I wasn't there..because I would have grabbed anyone that threw anything at anyone and passed them over to the local cops.

Having travelled and worked in third world countries where people cut legs off each other when they get drunk and angry, I am extremely happy to live in Oz. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to windsurf and enjoy life generally.

It saddens me to hear a person involved in such a great sport (windsurfing) speaking rubbish about throwing things at a band. I'll put it down to immaturity and a lack of self control.

Reputation and integrity is everything...lose it and you lose a lot of hardwork put in by the organisers - with the local community and other stakeholders who got involved to make this a classic world class event.

Next time you want to throw something...take a trip to PNG or another island nation and try your luck. You won't be windsurfing there after you pull a stunt like that. Actually, you probably wouldn't be walking too well.

Thankfully most of the people I have come across since I started windsurfing are reasonable, mature and very friendly.

My congratulations to the organisers of the event and I pass on my best wishes for the 25th anniversary.

Sean B.
