Hi,
This is what I do: 1. I put the mast in the sleeve and apply manual downhaul gradually until the sail flattens reasonably and there are no folds and creases. I NEVER downhaul to the specs right from the start!! In my theory this has a detrimental effect to the mast especially if it is higher carbon content >70% and you kill the dynamics of the mast. 2. I loop the outhaul until I feel some resistance and visually approve. 3. Then I sit on the ground and apply final downhaul to my liking ( usually very subtle).Note the the mast has already SOME curve. 4.I adjust the outhaul keeping the profile of the sail. If I have to adjust I play with outhaul and almost never with downhaul because I am lazy. And this works with me. If I am not happy I switch sizes.
