Thanks everyone who has paid so far - I am putting in the entries so that seeding can be done on the first day. Get you payment in or at least PM me if you are intending to come so we can get an idea of numbers. We are planning an opening night BBQ at the team house and a closing night presentation dinner which is included in the ticket price.

Whitecaps photography will be at the event to capture all the glory and the carnage!

cheers all

try graphs NSW - Illawarra. Point Perpendicular is one hour south. Or try Weatherzone.
Any NE graphs will get accelerated by the Illawarra cliffs

Seabreeze and Pt Perpendicular as Tim said. Saturday afternoon looks like it could be on.

Ben, I think it could be worth your while to head on over. Sounds like a lot people are coming to this one and the wind looks to be favourable.

Al, if it is southerly wind, more than likely we will go to Windang. See last weekends photos from the comp. Rain, well you get wet anyway so that should not be a problem. It will be good to see you guys up here.

Those photos don't do any justice to how good the condition were at windang on sunday. If we were to get a day like that during the comp it would be a spectacle with australias best competing in those conditions.

As for the forecast, just about every day this summer has had the sun/rain symbol up for the whole week, i don't think anyone really knows what the weather will bring. The east coast has had some average periods but with some absolutely firing periods also, Sick windang and gerroa.

Are non-competitors able to attend these functions? Do you want/need numbers?

The only problem has been the lack of wind / swell combo. That said the season started off really early in September with a few good Swell/ NE days... once October came around it pretty much went to s..t. A number of days with good Nor'Easter but no swell and visa versa. Recently though things seemed to have somewhat gone back to normal. We have even had a couple of good Southerlies after a very long period of practically no Southerlies.

Looking at the forecast I am guessing the following:

Saturday: Gerroa, Shoulder high range. Wind will be sketchy from the North'East but as long as we don't get any thunderstorms there should be enough to get out on the water.

Sunday: Looking at the current models I don't expect much.

Monday: should see a solid Southerly developing. And if the models are right this could be the best Southerly day of the season so far. Mid to late afternoon seems to have a very favourable tide for Windang.

Tuesday: continued swell but probably not enough wind to go sailing. Forecast says swell will be in the 8 foot range... this video shows you what a 6 to 10 foot swell looks like around here:

Plenty of breaks that are sheltered from the Southerly ... eg Werri Beach.

Wednesday to Friday: Models show continued strong southerly swell building again towards the weekend. I think Thursday / Friday next week has the potential to bring a good Nor'Easter / Southerly swell combo for Gerroa.

NE on Saturday with some swell leftovers from Friday's southerly, then big southerly with 16seconds big swell forecast for the beginning of next week, then windguru showing a Noreaster coming back twds end of next week with still decent ground south swell remaining... i wish i had more holidays..
Luckliy we should have a new coffee machine at the office next week which may bring some excitement..

Hey Tim,

If the NE come through tomorrow, i assume the groms, ladies and ams will kick off?
Is there a meeting time and area for a briefing at this point?

Ok its on. Meeting 9:30 Gerroa car park. Rego needs to be completed in time for first heats by possibly 11:00am. I will be there from about 9:00am. All Non-Pro divisions will probably run conditions dependent. If its small waves the Groms, jnr and youth will be the first heats in the water.

I am deliberately not giving times so that the maybe's get there on time and don't force a reseeding by turing up late. Help out by doing your bit and being organised.

see u there

The one next to the caravan park. If your heading south, go across the bridge and take the first left.

yup... tomorrow will be rather windy but swell will be on the carraaaapy side ... at least in Gerroa. Shoalhaven Heads should be ok.

But Monday at Windang should be pretty much veeerrrry nice indeed.

Anyone know if I can still enter tomorrow? Haven't registered yet.

Any sailors from WA entering the nationals this year??
I was reading about your different divisions. Ive entered and won the amateur division of the waves held at lancelin but you can enter the " elite " division also if you want. We don't have pro division but elite and instead of amateurs we have open. It gives you more time on the water and avoids some of the problems you mentioned.
What it does do is realy allow the best sailor on the day to shine! It's worth a crack as indeed it was mentioned that there are non sponsored sailors that can cause upsets. The same goes for masters and juniors. They can enter also.
Obviously some common sense must be applied
My bro once came 6 in amateurs or "open" then went on to post 2 in elite beating the likes of boujama and other pros as indeed we sail the location a lot. The only rule is that pros or obvious top sailors definently can't enter other lower divisions.
The point is it means more fun water time and competition. The best sailor may not always be a pro. After all you're trying to find the best national sailor, it may not be a pro. Probably a west Aussie who can't make it :) enjoy the comp I'd like to make it one day

Ben and Jaeger turned up today. Some results were decided today with the Masters and Opens to be run on Monday with a forecast of 20-30 knots southerly where we will head to Windang.
