As for Accommodation side of things we have booked a house for the week which has a couple of bedrooms and floorspace. We may book another house if there is the demand.

What is available is;
1 X Master bedroom with private bathroom/shower $325 for the week starting 19/2/11 and vacating on the 27/02/11
2 X bedrooms with 2 beds in each $30 per bed, per night.
Floor space at $20 per night but BYO mattress - there is space for about 8 people (4 upstairs and there is a downstairs room as well)

This house is where we will probably hold the opening night BBQ.
Workout what you want and email me direct using my address in a previous post. First come, first serve. Payments to the NSW Wavesailing club once I confirm back directly with you.

I will be off the air for a week until the 17th so don't panic if you feel like you are being ignored.

Cheers all

Thanks for all feedback,

Had a quick meeting with Contest Director Warren Holder and everthing looks to be in place. Note that the dates are the 19th of February until the Saturday the 26th. The presentation dinner will be Saturday night the 26th at a local resturant in Gerringong and opening night BBQ will be at the event house on the 19th.

All competitors need to be able to show that they are currently insured with their state club. If you are not currently insured then insurance is available through NSW Wavesailing for about $20-$25. This will need paid in addition to the entry fee. There will be some paperwork to sign as well.

The event format will be Man-on-man heats with 2 heats running at the same time (4 sailors on the water). Expert judges will be on hand as well as Warren who is running the event.

Any questions PM me please but I will post more details up in shortly. Only floor space is available at the house now.

BTW Gerroa was firing today with 6' sets and enough wind to plane off the beach at times. SE swell arrived about 1pm and there were sailors from as far north as the Central Coast and south from Ulladulla such is the reputation of the beach. From what I saw of Brett Goodwin today his level of sailing is excellent and would give most Pros a real run for their money.

I will see a lot of guys at the next NSW WA event which is the weekend before.
Cheers
Tim

Wow, if you call a mast high wave, 6' I am must be about 3 feet tall. At that's what the size was between 4 and 6pm. Probably as good as Gerroa gets in a Nor'Easter.

Surfers measure waves as half the height of the face

Mast high with a 5.0 rigged is approximately a 12 foot face = 6 foot wave

And I agree with both of you regarding today's sail - as good as it gets at Gerroa today

If you do not already have a sail number how do you go about getting one, is there a register of numbers already in use? is No.1 taken?

Also what is the criteria for amateur, no sponsors?

cheers duncan.

as far as wave sizing goes its easy... you just have to halve what windsurfer tells you it is. generally i've found they love talking it up

Simple rule. If your telling someone who wasn't there double it. If your telling someone that was half it.

Sail numbers - I will double check this one but we will be using coloured rash vests to identify you on the water.

As for criteria into Ams, Pros good question. Generally most of the clubs know who their Pro and Amateur sailors are and seeding will be done on day one of the comp. The Amateurs division will be restricted to those whose ability level is a tier below the Pros and also you can't be a sponsored sailor. We are looking to encourage those new to wave comp who wish to develop their sailing in the waves.

There will be a few sailors out there who have a low/no contest profile who could give the regular Pros a decent contest and they are generally known. If it becomes obvious that someone is foxing then they may find themselves reseeded into the Pros.

Speaking for NSW WA all current Amateur division sailors qualify for the Amateur division. Dunko - you will be an AM but will get a higher seeding

Hope this helps
Tim

Hey Tim, there is a crew of us venturing down from QLD and have been talking about getting a house for the week. Should we just organise this ourselves or if there is some sweet places you know of then maybe that is an easy option.

Looking forward to it!

Duncan,

For your information, your sail number is AUS-139 and will continue to be so if you are a member of the NSWWA - one of the many perks and why everybody in NSW should join (blatant plug for the 2011-12 season).

All sail numbers for Australian Windsurfing Association members can be found here:

www.windsurfing.org/files/info/AWA_Members.pdf

I won't be able to make the nationals but hope it's a great event, which I'm sure it will be.

Cheers
Ben

Hi everyone,

There seems to be a lot of interest in this year's Nationals and many of the more experienced crew are hopefully going to make it. We have enough interest to run GRAND MASTERS
LEGENDS
as well as the other divisions.

Hopefully we can run a Junior Ladies (under 21) and Open Ladies divisions too.

Note the early bird discount of entry of only $100 is ending soon - 5th of February. Use the NSW WA account to make your deposit please. Ladies and Juniors/Youth and Groms are only $60. We have quite a bit to pay to put the event on so please get your entry in.

No sail numbers required!

We will use coloured rash vests to identify you. You can always display your numbers if you go to the www.windsurfing.org and checking the AWA members list. This is the list of all sailors currently insured as well.

February and March are better for waves and the seabreeze is still good owing to local effects. Had a top day 10 days ago with headhigh sets. The cross off wind means the wave face stays smooth and really rippable. The seabreezes also produce good jumping waves (cross-on) further down the beach where it bends around.

Hope you guys make it - a long event window and the possibility of moving the comp up and down the coast will maximise the chance of contestable conditions.

Cheers
Tim

Tim

Can you confirm the price for entry after the early bird cut off? Sorry if its written in this thread somewhere, I cannot find it for the life of me.

Plus are we allowed to enter multiple divisions with one entry fee eg Ams and masters (as we were at last NSW based nationals?)

Count Jake and I in for a BYO bed each in the house please. I am still trying to coax Jess along :-)

cheers

I recall that was given the thumbs down after last time. Can't recall exactly why though.

I don't really have an opinion on it, as I don't qualify for the Juniors, Groms, Youth, Masters, Legends or Ladies.

But you'd have to offer that option up to the opens though, to enter both Pro's and Am's.

Why on earth would you do that qwert??? That would be like entering the masters, grand masters, and legends?!? Just pick a division and have a crack.

Hey Dan,

I was actually agreeing with you (re: "just pick a division and have a crack").
Surely you're in the masters by now anyway?

What I was getting at is that it probably gets a bit complicated when you inter-mingle divisions. Probably why the idea of entering mutli divisions was not a popular one last time. But as I said, I can't recall what the main draw-back was (maybe you do?).

Personally I don't mind either way if the organisers are happy to run with it.
It's a great initiative to encourage first timers with the Am fleet.

The flip side is thats probably the only one that is open to interpretation. Unless someone is a registered/active PWA sailor, it's not always clear what defines a "pro". If it comes down to someones opinion as to who is considered really good, then it may not always be on the money. Easy for the current NSWWA sailors who adopt that split already, but not so clear cut for the rest.
As a result, it would be hard to justify why most Opens should not be allowed to join both fleets.
I understand there is criteria laid out to help draw the line in the sand, but I'm not sure what that is.

Anyway, not trying to confuse the issue any further. Just calling out the feedback from 5 years ago.

2 weeks to go.
Can't wait

I've always looked at it as sponsored/ not sponsored or serious/ social. I think the idea was to keep more people enjoying the competition. The idea was stolen from WA anyway so blame them it has worked well in the nswwa. Makes it more enjoyable for more people.
