For those of you coming up to the comp who have never been/sailed here B4

The beach faces due south so picks up any swell with even a hint of south in it.
Tide plays a pretty big factor in wave quality... and due to the huge gutters that run along the beach due to the sheer length of it (approx 38 km From Animal Bay to Stockton) there can be plenty of water moving around (insert big currents)

Hey pipe down Big Fella... your time will come.
Just a little over 8 weeks and its back to the worlds longest left hander.
Your new happy clapper board should work a treat dialing into those long long long walls !
Almost as good as Wanda by the sounds

Going to Chicama? Whats the sailing like there?

I know it doesn't really feel like the season is about to begin as it is still bloody cold, but it is! The first round of this years NSWWA competition begins very soon.

Over the winter the crew from NSWWA have beeen working hard on improving the running of all events and with new a starting systems (Developed and engineered by Dan Berry), a move back towards man on man finals and a heap of other new ideas this years competition format will surely prove to be a winner. Many hours of hard work from the new commitee will undoubtedly see one of the best seasons yet (come on huey!).

In terms of sponsorship a huge thanks has to go out to Neil Pryde who are again sponsoring the entire series. Another big thanks must also go out to Severne/Starboard, Exocet, Wind Surf n Snow and Dirty Dog Eyewear all of these guys have put in some great prizes and offered heaps of support through event sponsorships. There is talk of some great demo gear to be supplied to NSWWA members, will keep you posted.

To combat the problem of no-wind events we will be running a stand up paddle board comp (limited demo boards avaliable), conduct wave sailing coaching seminars, a swap meet at Birubi on Saturday and awesome BBQ's with plenty of Amber Ale.

Membership forms will be sent out early next week, if your not on the nswwa mailing list PM me your details and we will send it to you. Check out the website for more info www.nswwavesailing.org

See you all at Birubi

I think this was the original post??
Ive got a couple of questions about the weekend, maybe someone could help me out? Firstly, I went to a couple of competitions last summer and had a great time ( not nessesarily talking about by competition level) however I started up a health and fitness business at the end of last summer and consequently havent sailed much since then, a couple of times on narabeen lake and botany bay but no actual wavesailing. So my level ( and confidence) is pretty average, if I go to the event and the surf is big or I just dont feel up to it, do I have to technically compete to still do all the other stuff?? and secondly, what is a "swap meet" my wife thinks its some kind of swinging party, can anyone clarify? Sounds good though
thanks guys

When I started I was worried about the standard in the Amateurs and whether I would be up to it. This season quite a few of the better sailors in the Am's have moved into the Pro's division and therefore the division between the two sailing standards will be much more obvious.

I have not know Birubi to get extream - perhaps Kev could give us an average condition report. In any case, having other sailors of similar standard out with is encouraging. Also, watching better sailors in their heat is very enlightening particularly where they sail in the waves as well as the how. I have found it easiest to follow the channel out to sea a bit, gybe and then slowly sail in looking for a wave to bring me in - like waiting for a bus and hoping on rather than sailing between the waves.

There are some very helpful guys who will give you good advice as to how to best handle the conditions if you are a little worried. Look for one of the Committee members who should be wearing a special coloured hat on the day.

There are plenty of other activities to do, surfing at One Mile beach (nice place for a romantic walk along the sand), the soccer bin game, Camel rides, 4WD on the Stockton Dunes, eating a Surf n Turf at the Tavern. I understand that quite a few partners/wind widows head up as well.

The swap meet is for gear swap - not car keys in a bowl. You could pick up some bargin windsurfing gear or get rid of stuff you don't need.

At any rate its a great weekend out of Sydney and I highly recommend it!
Cheers

mr plod, do what i did last year and attend all the comps, and come in 6th in the Ams - even though I didn't get into one final!

Comps are great, you learn a lot from the other sailors (except Krusty?).

Tim, the soccer bin game really had an affect on you didn't it!!

Mr Plod,

The amateurs division is there for new guys in wavesailing to be able to compete against people of a similar level so if you have the basics down you will be fine in this division, most of the better sailors from last year will be moving to the pros this year, if they dont then they will be severly flammed!

For anyone that isn't sure they want to compete but would like to enjoy all the other benefits you can get a Social memebership this year for $20 per event which gives you access to some demo gear, food at the bbq's and a place in any of the wavesailing coaching seminars. It doesn't allow you to compete, collect any prizes or get insurance, so you might aswell just go the whole hog and become a full member for just a bit more!

Sam from windsurf 'n' snow will be bring up some Stand up paddle boards which can be demoed and will also bring some new season Neil Pryde gear to conduct a gear over view for the 2008-09 season, I think Dan will also do a run down on the twin fins aswell. So there will be plenty happening even if we dont get 25knots cross off.

As for the swap meet your wife is right, bring her up and I'll take her for a ride can only offer the use of a slightly used tabou in return however? Jokes aside the swap meet will be usefull for everyone to flog of winsurfing stuff they don't use anymore and for people who want to score a bargain to be able to find one.

Anyone who has some gear they are bringing up to sell might want to stick it on here so people know what will be avaliable and come up to get it, I will start with;

Tabou 97lt 3s 2007 - $950
Chinook Alumimium Boom Brand new almost 188cm-250cm - $150
Gaastra Poison 2006 4.2m - $250
Heaps of fins and other stuff cluttering my garage!

I spoke to Keith, he said he's a bit busy at the moment and wont be able to make it to Birubi but wished everyone all the best for the comp and festive action !

Special point of note for those traveling up with heaps of gear strapped to the roof of your car/s.
When you get to where ever you are staying... take the gear off the roof and lock it inside the car or in the house.
There's a few sh#t bags doing the rounds up this way stealing boards off cars along with anything inside that's not locked.
They even tried to steal the old scooby doo from off the front lawn... TWICE...

Kev

PS - Friday and Saturday just gone was pretty damn good at Birubi... Sailed with Glovey on Friday and solo on Saturday. Will be great to see some other sailors up here !

Who would've known? Birubi with wind and waves?

Judging by the forecast I think we will be aiming to get the first heats on the water soon after 11am, before the wind swings too much to the south. For everyone heading up, please don't turn up at 11am, I am doing sign on and won't want to hang around to sign people on after 11am, so do yourself and me a favour turn up early and get some practice in before we start!

Thanking you in advance

Its the same fee for every division. I just did an internet transfer of $150 but that covers all the comps & insurance & the BBQ. A very good deal. Its also the same price as last year. There was an early bird discount of $130 but I missed that. For individual comps I think it was $30 entry fee.
Hope to see a new amateur sailing!
cheers
