can't see the point of assy's really ... you almost want the same amount of drive out of top turns as bottom turns , otherwise off the tops are too loose and slidey , not driving out of turns enough ? .,..
Saw a raw clip of hookipa , and looked like Camille Juban was trying out KT's previous assy , and it didn't look fully convincing vs how hard he drives his own symmetrical boards ....(and also vs how he sailed when he also jumped on one of Keiths symmetrical customs in the huge aloha a few years ago - fully ripping as always ) . The Assy looked a bit on off on the rail , and Juban's body riding language didn't look like he fully trusted /fully convinced in the board ... No doubt complicated also by being one of KT's personal proto try outs - ie probably very curvy rail + curvy rocker version of an assy.
At what level do you want to define assy ? Started with my favorite board, finer bottom turn rail so dig deeper and cut through chop. Shortened other rail to assist with tighter top turn snap. Slight adjustment with fin sizes and positions and the end result was a smoother ride that does everything well. Surprised how well it improved side onshore as well. You could do something in between of course, but l like the idea of exaggerating shape slightly to enhance the performance that suits your local conditions, and also helps with your natural or goofy bias.

No.
The point is you can exert more force with your feet oneway and less the other - simple biomechanics means and assy would be nice
As a heavy guy, big boards need more muscle off the top. I'm loving the fact I hardly weight my heels and around she goes.
Nobody is saying you need one, but its silly to say the top turn is anything like the bottom turn. So two shapes - to some degree - in the one board could be better if done right.
I like that you said almost...... so a mild assy for you.
Like Stoney I also was surprised how it improved side-on a bit, my assumption was crosshore only and I was wrong.
Maybe that slight side-on angle is good for an assy , helping negotiate that awkward initial angle entry on the topturn ... can definately see how a looser snappier slidier entry would help with that aspect .For good dtl conditions and more open topturn angles - still not convinced ... doubt we will see Levi messing about with them too much. You never see the ASP surf tour pro's playing around with assy shapes for certain left or righthanders , 'biometrics' or stances ... There's alot you can do playing, around with assy fin set ups .... and fin positioning in the box .... Anyways - the stone assy's look amazing ,....
Big Thanks to Mark except for cutting me off for big mule kick![]()

Was lucky enough to ride this board today for a couple hours.
Had a ball. Would have loved some more swell.
Planes up like a 103l. Carves like a 90l.
Cheers Mark![]()
