Alan and I have just paid our entry.
We will do a day trip and sail on the Saturday.
I'm going to need watch the water rules video. I haven't sailed a race since I was a teenager !

Is that trumpy doing the video commentary?

If anyone has a 46mm diameter base for the Windsurfer mast that would be great.

Don't forget the PFDs.

I have a few spare sail numbers if people have forgot.

If Big Kev was here, he'd be excited.

Fantastic day of racing, with 20 sailboards at the start line and five races held! SBSC is the perfect venue with a great Race Committee and facilities (with beers and burgers after racing, etc)! Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow. The new Windsurfer LT rocks! More photos on the SBSC FaceBook and website.

Forecast for good wind tomorrow after midday, What a sight today with all those windsurfers - youths through to old salts and 3 ladies amongst it too. Very well run event.

Good day even with not much breeze. Very close racing even amongst the mixed gear. Hopefully get 10+ knots this arv.

Just back from Hobart.

A huge success is the best way to describe the Windsurfer State Titles at the Sandy Bay Sailing Club.

-21 sailors in total ranging from in age from 14 to 60 something in the Windsurfer (LT and OD) class and R300/hybrid class.

-10 races over two days in 5 to 12 knots.

Sandy Bay Sailing Club ran this event so well, and made us all feel very welcome (great bar and food too guys )

Lots of photos on facebook (Windsurfing Tasmania, Sandy Bay Sailing Club and Windsurfer Class Association of Australia).

1st heavyweight windsurfers- Dave Morehead
1st lightweight windsurfer- Tim Jones
1st ladies - Jo Chau
1st R300 - Matthew Stirling (followed very closely by 15 year old Finn Buchanan on a Techno 293)

Thanks to the organisers (Jo Chau and SBSC especially), all who came along and in particular the 5 who travelled from northern Tasmania to compete.

When people are willing to travel, it means these events a genuine "State Title" (rather than just a Hobart title).

Personally, I got the the top mark first in the R300s in two races, but the competition was very tight and my overall result was not great. (Got to loose a few kgs for next year).

In a typical 15 to 20 minute race, only 3-4 minutes separated first from last. Within the R300 fleet, there was usually 1.5 minutes or less between first and last.

Obviously the new LT with its lighter weight, stiffness and higher volume outperformed the plastic one designs. Relic estimated the difference in speed at around 15%- which was pretty much what the results showed.

I'd have to echo everything above. I think the increased performance Windsurfer LT vs Windsurfer Mkll would be even higher in 15-20kn.breeze
The One Design concept obviously turnes the tables from who has the biggest credit card to buy the fastest gear, to who is the most skilled sailor, tactician and able to read the conditions to get around the course first.
Those of you out there who might think "Boring ,slow, no thrill etc" would be surprised how exhilarating this type of sailboarding is if you had a try. Whether it be an organised regatta or or a few mates out having a friendly race, as well as a prefect affordable way to get family and kids into sailboarding at less than the cost of a entry level Mountain bike.
The makers have produced a winner IMO. Improving on LT's predecessors; manageable weight, more stable, much easier to sail and learn on, faster and most importantly at an affordable price.
The revival has arrived!
P.S. I have no commercial vested interest. The above is my personal opinion.
