Thank you Barri for the invite onto your site.
It's difficult for me to advise you too much in the early day matters like licences as I'm from interstate.
When it comes to the actual event structure there are plenty of guys would happily weigh in, myself included.
You do need at least 3 or 4 people who are prepared to really make the event happen.
The distance for sailors to travel isn't an issue that would rule it out as the west coast of SA isn't too much different
to a trip to Tassie for those on the east coast. We do know a lot of NSW and some Qld sailors will travel. With Ben's
backing you'll get at least a few from WA.
Ideally a full year is what you'd want to get things done properly. However in the case of NSW we could
do it just as well for February 2015 if we were to go hard at it from now on. This is because we are doing
events all the time.
For most late summer or Autumn is the way to go. People are fit they have had their new season gear for a while.
Most events like mambo and state rounds have finished and house rentals are relatively easy to get and
usually not too expensive.
Limestone coat... Home base Mt Gambier / Port Mac Donnell.
8 spots to sail in all wind direction , all spots 30 minutes or less away from Mt Gambier
95% chance of waves,,,well if it's flat it's flat everywhere
Plus we have beachport 1 hour away and Robe 1.5 hours to fall back onto if needed.
Just another option
Don't care if it's south or west , if the west coast boy's are happy to do it ....LET'S ROCK

What time of year you think Ty?
What about beach facilities for holding a comp?
If the deal is to do the area, I am with Ty. It could work! It is sticking to a single spot that creates problem in SA!
January ' February or March.
Adelaide cup long weekend in March for a week????
Beach access only to two spots. Sand highway that time of year.
No walking, where you park you sail.
Most spots your looking down on the action, cliff tops or rocks
I Wonder if Events SA or any other gov tourist group and poss local council could provide some support cash and organisational assitance - they can get it for other national events - wherever its held
Is there national windsurf association funding?

I think places like Pebbles would be out. Not enough outs if **** happens, will scare a few off.

Hale mentioned the nationals he went too (Margs) had jet ski rescue out. We could try an organise something like this... assuming we can launch a jet ski somewhere nearby.

Of course we can James, you just have to buy the jetski ![]()
They had a helicopter too - anyone got some spare cash?
Seriously, this could work out, but we would need a group of genuine volunteers to make it happen.
In terms of timing I would suggest leveraging off an SA public holiday might be a little greedy. Need to "think nationally" & consider items such as:
- accomodation deals
- entertainment outside of windsurfing
- $$$
- publicity
- who is willing to sit on the beach and be judges etc.
Pete did a great job with Robe at Easter but he and his helpers worked damn hard to pull it off. Not trying to put people off, but if we are serious we would need to get some geniune volunteer commitment...
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the Pebbles/Nene Valley breaks all need an E' ly or a SE'ly? In January there are 8.2 days of > 16 knots (Cape Nelson) (26.5%), of these 2.4 days are from SE or E. There's 1.5 days of W'ly/NW'ly so Browns or Bridgewater would hold that. There're 4 days of SW or S'ly - I think you'd have to consider Port Fairy for that. The odds aren't that favorable - definitely need to team up with SUP and run a SUP contest for the other 3 days out of 4. Also consider you'd have to deal with up to 50 competitors. 10 heats of 5 is going to take a day. You'd need a second day to run the finals heats. So you need 2 days of reliable wind in the holding period.
Marrawah (TAS) has 14 windy days in Jan (46%).
Geralton (WA) has 9.3 windy days in Jan (based on town not Corros) (30%).
Elliston has 5 windy days in Jan (17%) but I think there's a local seabreeze which boosts that number up.
Cocos Island has reliable trades in Jan I think.
Maybe we can discuss at next WSA C'tee mtg?
Cape Nelson is in Portland,
So your better of going by cape Jaffa
Secondly were talking middle of summer so there's always a honking northerly before an equal strength west then maybe two days of SW and then up to three days of South/SE all doable on the lower SE coast.
If those figures are correct James I wouldn't have moved down here 7 years ago and I would sell my gear and just surf![]()
I know robe has been done but how long ago?
Was it the 80's?

Spot on pilchard......starting to sound like a local...
The way this is going we should have it in 2020...
Might be able to pull it of by then
west or south coast who cares
Set a place and date , ,,,,,, And get on with it.
1989 Nationals where at Robe, pretty sure we had 14 days straight of wind but the swell went missing for a couple of those days.
