There will be live music and videos of the 80s with a lot of the local crew featured.
also video of some SAWSA events held in the 80s including wave sailing ,speed sailing and the1987 national titles we held at Robe
It would be a tradegy if you guys miss this one as it is the social event of the decade for board sailors.
Jamie Grosser (the organiser) has suggested you guys can hold the meeting at the BSYC before the ball at 6.30 if you want.
Woodsea
P.s. sorry about the short notice i,ve only just found out myself
AHHHHHHHH!
Organising anything and setting a date is a freakin nightmare at this time of year.
We had heard a few rumours it was happening but nothing official till now.
Looking at another date soon
Watch this pace
IS ANYONE PLANNING ON GOING TO THE BS BALL?????????
Not me Russ.
Let me know when you're having the SASWS meeting, 28th or the 4th sounds good. I'll be there for sure. Perfect lead up to Robe!
Beers, Dave's video's, a DVD or 2 and all the SASWS yahoo's... sounds like fun to me!
Same here Russ, more interested in coming over to yours, chillin with some beers and crapping on about windsurfing!
Quite a few won't be able to do the ball for childcare reasons so we are still going to have the gethering
28th March 7-730 till we've had enough -

To all new members of SASWS. My name is Jamie Grosser and I am organising The up coming Boardsailors Ball. Its a bummer about the clash of dates. I have been planning the ball since Christmas but got let down with the promo Material until now. I was a founding member of SAWSA and help run many of the original robe Comps. The Boardsailors Balls' were legendary events in their time and we thought it would be great to revisit and introduce a whole new crew to the Experience. It will be a guaranteed good night and disappointing if you were to miss it , but understand dates are hard to organise. I can offer you some room at BSYC prior to the ball on the day, if you were to consider it. Otherwise we'll make sure everybody gets more notice next time. I can be contacted on 0412800129 if anyone wants to discuss it further. Fantastic to get a new association up and going again. All the best.
SASWS is 'the' driving force pushing the growth of windsurfing in SA from the grassroots level through to the wave sailors. How about the profits from the next 'Boardsailors' Ball going to windsurfing, I'm sure the people that are putting in all the hard work would be very appreciative of some financing towards equipment.
Just a thought!
amen MUZZA! great to see a board sailors ball however none of us were really told about the event! its a great idea and most of us would have been edger to help out. i just seen the flyer at Onboard the other week. a bit more communication would be great! pity about the clash but these things happen. hope you get a good crowd! see you there russ mate! ill bring me "personal collection" of DVD's. there all windsurfing ones too. ![]()
chris.
Sorry Susie but at this stage some of us just aren't into it. I must admit a little prior notice may have helped.
Yes we can have a wave sail meeting at any time - but from personal experience the logistics of organising things is difficult unless you have a set day / date each month or second month - in this day of electronic communication it seems there are so many people that don't respond to any of them - maybe we will just call saturday the 28th a social gathering for those that have children this time around like you mentioned in your post or cannot make it for other reasons.
Personally It's a bit like New Years Eve at Pt Elliot - it was great when I was 18 - but i really don't think It would have quite have the same impact and unless you were there in the past - going today you just wouldn't understand what it was like.
The ball sounds like it would be great for those that have been involved in previous balls and catch up with faces from the past and I'm sure John has been working really hard to get it up and running and must be commended for that - but for some of us there is no precident, no romantic memories of it, so we may just want to have a few coldies, have a sausage sizzle and catch up regarding the summer thats just been.
Maybe set a date in the calender for next year at the begining of the summer sailing season promote it early as an end of summer bash - and we'll make it next time around.
Cheers
Sorry u guys can't make the ball or are'nt into it! Good luck with your meeting
A great opportunity missed if u ask me
i wish that we knew of the ball like a month ago!!!!! and then we could have tied in a windsurfing event into it or with it!!
For thiose who can't make the Board Sailors ball - See you on Saturday Night
Pm me if you can't make it and want to add something to the plans for the wave expression sessions this winter or for the address if you want to come along
Since when did the boardsailors ball go into funding the BSYC.??????????
The Boardsailors ball was all about windsurfing and SAWSA (The South Australian Wavesailng Association)
I should know as my band ASD played at the very last Boardsailors Ball at the Glenelg Yacht Club and i dont recall funds going to Glenelg yacht club.
To be using the moniker of Boardsailor Ball for your own personal use Jamie Grosser and Mark Wood i think is very rich.
Shouldnt it be called the Yachties Ball????????????????
Cause it certainly aint progressing windsurfing in SA if its going to the BSYC.
The BSYC canned all racing of windsurfers in any form way way back in the day.
What has the BSYC done for windsurfing, nothing and you want all the sailors to come and fund the ****ty yacht club.
After growing up at the yacht club and seeing the farce that it became for any type of sailing I personally dont agree but i would if all profits went to SWSA and the positive crew who are running it instead of a few making some coin for their own agenda.
Enjoy the party.
Hi All
I would like to respond to Asdmuzaks comments,As a founding member of the original SAWSA way back in the 80s i would like to point out that at the time the BSYC was a hub for young sailboarders and many, many times the BSYC availed itself for our use for either events or just a meeting point for those wanting to hang out with fellow sailboarders. We were always welcome!
Over the years may atempts were made for the board sailors to comptete in club run events, but due to either the fickle nature of sailboarding & or a lack of numbers sailboarding events never lasted moe than a few events.
Times have now changed & the young sailboarders of the 80s are now parents and have moved into the management and organisational committees of the BSYC.
So Yes they do have a vested interest in the Club and also their children and also community events.
So I choose to support the BSYC and are more than happy to see profits go to Youth Sailing (this may include sailboarding but as i'm not a member of BSYC i can't confirm this) As the BSYC has supported us in years gone bye i see the BIG PICTURE.
This Ball is aimed solely at Boardsailors and Jamie Grosser was hoping for a mix of the old crew and the new crew, and should be seen as an opportunity for the new crew to network with the older sailboarders as many of them are now working in or running buisnesses involved with sailing and sailboarding.
As far as i can see the profits are going to a great cause and if the new SASWS wishes fund to go to them why don't they organise their own Boardsaliors Ball ??
In fact Jamie was considering making a donation to the new SASWA if they supported the Ball, But judging by the negative comments coming from Asdmuzak and others on this site i doubt if this will happen now! (he needs to get his facts & people correct) How could he give profits to a club that has no leagal identity or stucture is problematic.
A Jamie has stated it is fantastic to get a new club up and running and i have personally offered the club my support & best wishes.
So how about we try to support each other instead of expressing narrow self opinionated negative veiws.
Thanks for reading this
Craig Wood
Don't like where this is headed
Lets put this to rest - most sailors in the group will never have heard of the ball or the people organising it (havn't sailed for more than 10 -12 years) and felt it wasn't relative to them and chose not to go - that is human nature and not a reflection on any individual or group organising things.
Personally I hope all goes well hope it's a great night and the takings do well to benefit the youth sailors.
the group that have got together (SASWS - 25 or so) have no where to put funds and do not collect funds. It is a social group of people that wave sail and at no point should be mis interpreted as the SA Wave Sailing Association or representing all wave sailors as such.
The original concept was to get something happening in wavesailing in SA and enjoy it and bring as many people together at events as possible - not divide them.
There could have been better communication between both parties earlier in the organisation and promotion. If some of the detail had been put up in posts six or eight weeks ago individuals may have had a better understanding of what was going on. If the organisers had come along to one of the meetings and said - hey where going to do this - do you want to look at it as and end of summer bash - more people would have understood what is happening - the history etc.
Unfortunately it is easy for all of us to post something on a forum without thought of the impact on others - it's not exactly a private conversation.
Cheers best wishes and hope all you old farts have a good night, just remember - be safe, wear your hip protectors and you might need an extra pair of depends with all that fluid after 8pm! (just joking - lighten up out there)

**** this!
Lets go sailing!
To the guys organising the ball on Saturday night - Have a great night, maybe see you next year (and please dont put us all in the same basket, I looked back and could only see one negative comment)
To Ian - thats you opinion and you are entitled to it
To Russ - See you Saturday, I will need a beer by then!
sa SOCIAL wavesailors.
just a group of people who like to get together and windsurf. FARK all this bull ****! forget it. i think some people take things way too seriously and dont think before typing. have a great night everyone! this forum is getting way to BITCHEY!
Maybe we could all donate a small amount from Saturday night at Seacliff and at the drinks at Seaford to Alison Shreeve - who is currently windsurfing across Bass Straight - raising the profile and money for Coastcare.

Now that is impressive (see general forums - links to gps tracking etc)
I'd be nervous about taking a big boat let alone my sail gear
What do ya think
I hope to make it. Sounds like a fun event for those into this type of thing.... Well done to Susie for being willing to try and support Windsurfing through these events. I feel guilty I have not attended much so far..
Oh. Oops...well what can I say, girls just wanna have fun![]()
Barby and beers, oh yeah, Boardsailors Ball, oh yeah,
wind wind and more wind oh yeah![]()
And whatever you guys decide as a peaceful united group of all windsports lovers
definitely OH YEAH
We now have a data projector for the videos (thanks Dave) of Robe, Seacliff and Maui as well as a couple of windsurf movies.
I'm grabbing some snags tomorrow for a late cook up and if there is enough of us to lift it we will move the pool table from the shed to under the verandah! Tere are a few beds in the Jayco and some matresses if anyone has one too many - the firewoods chopped and the eskies are waiting!
See you from 730
Hi, would have been a good night to come out and meet all you good Surf/Social people but I'm away for the week.. sorry.. I'll bore you with my company next time.
have fun
