Yeah, I didn't think you could sail Middleton on a SW.

I might have to get on the gas tonight. Every time I have a quiet night, because the forecast looks good for the next day, the wind never turns up! So.....beer up tonight everyone.

Not me Chris, from time to time I have to go to work. I could of phoned up sick, but I think my boss would put two and two together and get four (I would be busted). Jacob was out there ripping! he is a German lad who can do all the moves!!!! (freestyle gun), I am hoping he is going to teach me some moves before he goes home in April He is 16.

P.S
Has anyone seen Timmy!! Maris is looking for him. I have been looking too.

Hey Chris,
I think that may have been a couple of guys taking Starboard and MauiSails gear out for a demo.
I wont give up their names... they might have been pulling sickies!
From what they said, it was cold and the wind was pretty up and down.
I'd still rather have been out there than at work! Although, unpacking '09 Starboard boards and Severne sails isn't such a bad job... sometimes!
The boss is looking for some casual staff if anyone's interested.

Unpacking and lookings fine - Finding the money to buy the new gear is the hard part - I'm surprised someone hasn't got together with a financier and offered 12 months interest free with new boards/quiver - spread the total over 12 months and make sure it's payed off before interets date starts and your sweet - probably meen no trade-ins no discounts - whenever I save for gear when your gettin close - the car needs new tyres, school fees, kids need braces, wife needs shoes, car needs rego, beer stocks low - might attract a bit of xtra business to the shops as well!

Hey Russ,
I totally agree... that's why we're finalising the details with an 'Interest Free' mob right now.

Interest free terms * 1/3 off '08 MauiSails sails * 20% off MauiSails masts, booms & accessories * up to $450 off (new) '08 Starboard boards... it can't get much more affordable to buy gear.

Russ couldnt you just set up an account with one of these 'finance' firms? Like a Harvey Normals or Radio Rentals? Or does the shop have to have some accreditation?

dave - I'd only ever do it for the specific item and then cancel the account once paid up - too many people get trapped with ongoing interest, account fees etc if u don't pay it off in the interest free period.

In the end its what I want over what the family needs - i want some new gear (80-90l wave board) to replace my Evo 92 - but I don't need one cause my freewave covers 95% of my sailing- thats why something always takes precedence!

Cmon x lotto pull my numbers out!

By the way I should warn you that there will be no wind for the next 2 - 1/2 weeks because I will be on holidays and can sail anytime!

Hi Chris,
The new Severne's look awesome, I've got a Blade rigged up in the shop... very tempting!

Russ,
If you're off tomorrow, I've got the day off and the wife's home with the kids, so I'll be sailing seaford if you're around. I've got a new Evil Twin and Flare, both in the new carbon construction which I haven't used yet... keen as!!!

We've also got a demo Starboard Kode 86 coming over in a couple of weeks (along with 9 or 10 other boards) which you can take out for a blast... your wife will have to wait for her new shoes

SHH she'l hear you I don't know much about women but I do know you never get between a woman and a new pair of shoes -

- If I get in the water it'll be at 630 till 0800 and at work by 0900 - last day of work before hollies.

Kode 86 demo sounds allright - can you demo them for twelve months to see if you really like them

I think that demo deal would be a non refundable $1800 deposit, with the option to trade after 12 months,

Yep, that was me... well one of them was me. There was one other guy out and then another heading out when I came in at about 10ish.
Surf was non-existent to waist high.
Tide was a bit lower than I thought... yep, I found the reef with my spanky new fins!
I'm hoping to have another session this arvo when the wind swings. The swell did seem to be picking up, so it might be alright later.
The new twinnie is awesome to sail... way better than anything I've ever had (including my little Kombat, which was the bee's knee's till I got on a twinnie!).

Might see you out there later.

Hi All

After nearly 2 year spell, I went out yesterday and brought a
windsurf. I'll be looking forward to taking it out for a squirt ;)

Just a few questions. I rigged my sail on my lawn to get practice
with rigging. All went well, however, the shape of the sail didn't
look right. The sail isn't cupped (concaved), the batons are pushing
past the mast and the "leech" ?? (the top of the sail) looks too loose/floppy.
The looseness goes right down to the outhaul (clew?). From the training I
had two years ago (using Gastra and Mannix wave sails), the sail is only
loose up the top of the sail.

My sail is a 5.2m^2 Maulsails Switch 08, using a mauisails srs430 mast.

I followed the user manual instructions closely. I then tried to re-rigg it,
but got the same result. I finally measured the luff length with a tape
measure (somebody on this forum suggested to do this check), which
measured ok. So it's got me stuffed ?

Other than that, I'll plop it in the drink this weekend and see if I get spat
off hehe :). Cheers Ja

Hi Jason,
I was out sailing yesterday when you were in the shop picking up your gear, so I didn't get a chance to go through the rigging with you.
You're right, the MauiSails Switch does go loose a lot further down than most sails.
It sounds like you've got it pretty much right. The best test is to take it out for a sail and try it. Then make fine adjustments, i.e. ease/add downhaul/outhaul by a centremetre and go for another sail and see how it feels. Come in and fine-tune again. Play around like this for while and you'll get the settings that are right for YOU.
If you go onto the MauiSails forum at www.mauisails.com and ask Barry Spanier (the sail designer) you'll get the same answer. There isn't one setting for everyone, you start with the recommended settings and fine-tune from there.
Enjoy the new gear, they are magic sails!
See you on the water.

Muzza

If you need any help or want to meet up for a sail give me a call at the shop.

Hi Muzza (and all)

Thanks for tips about the sail :). To be doubly sure, I can take some
photo's of my rigged sail, and email them to you ?

I took it out to west lakes for a test. I couldn't sail. I couldn't get it to
go up wind at all (this was going into a gusty on-shore NW wind). I would
hop on, up haul/rope gybe, point the board 45 degrees from the wind, get
my balance sorted out, put my weight as far back as I could, and sheet into
wind. I would start to go forwards, but then I go sideways. The wind would
gust, I would lose balance, and then get flicked off. After 3 hours of
experimenting with the down haul, out haul tensions and base position, I
called it a day.

The sails I used during my training (2 years ago), I could feel that they all
exerted a forward force when you sheeted them into the wind. I didn't feel
this with my sail. I'm pretty certain I haven't set it up properly, or I am not
using the rig how it is designed.

Once I learn the knack, it will be all good :)

No worries... send your photos to boardshop@glascraft.com.au

2 things you're doing wrong-

1/ Sailing on West Lakes.
West Lakes is a gusty swamp that increases your difficulty 3-fold. Somewhere like Seacliff, near the yacht club is much better. (That's where I used to do 90% of my lessons).

2/Most of this -

I would hop on, up haul/rope gybe, point the board 45 degrees from the wind, get my balance sorted out, put my weight as far back as I could, and sheet into
wind.

Drop into the shop sometime and I'll have you up and flying in no time!
