koncept specks
Hey Mark, are you sure that the boom lengths are correct, they are much shorter then 2018 specs looks to be one size out ?
If the 2018 Koncept specs were one size out (which looks likely!) then can someone please tell me what the proper specs are for the 2018 and 2019 Koyotes? (specifically 5.3, 5.9 & 6.6).
Ordered 6.3/7.1/7.9 race. Think the ship took the long way round. Not long now I hope ??
No doubt the wind won't cooperate when they arrive. Will probably just lay them out in the lounge room and enjoy the new sail smell ....

Tricked me Choc, I was sure that's your bike ![]()
So any idea when they arrive in Aus? With any luck there's a couple in there for me as well as a mast.

The "NL" on the wheelie bin corroborates this!![]()

Didn't realise wheelie bin theft was so big in Europe and need to put the countries initials on their wheelie bins![]()

I'm not sure about Perth, butbut I been advised the ship arrives in Melbourne on the 29 October and our sails will arrive in Brisbane about a week later.
7.9 2019 Race......
The ship docks here tomorrow, so I am told. Then in the hands of customs and freight forwarders. Once we have them we need to sort , repack and on send...will do as quickly as possible.

Koncept Speed raring to go !!

I could have used my new 5.7 yesterday at Lota ??
The container finally arrived and was delivered and unpacked yesterday. Re-packing and sending on is underway right now. ![]()
To clear up the specs on the 2019 5.7m Koncept:
The printed boom length at 176cm is spot on.
The rigged luff length is actually 414cm, not the 419 that got printed on it. So it is not what I initially thought either.
This is what can happen when you make a lot of large changes during the design and testing and loose track of them.
On the plus side, I rigged the sail this afternoon and it looks sensational. Only after I took these photos did I realise I had not done up the tack strap or any of the zips, and it looked so clean in spite of this. ![]()
Oh, one more observation, if the new sails feel hard to rotate the cams, just downhaul it a bit more. When it is right it flicks over easy. (RDM masts and cams)
2019 KA Koncept 5.7m:

I know, - crap lawn! ![]()
I did a quick rig of the new 4.7m Koncept last night in a hailstorm and it looks like the specs on it are correct as anticipated. Will check the 5.2 later, but I expect it, and all the other sizes will be correct as well.

I just finished rigging the 2019 KA Koncept 7.0m.
I could not be happier with it so far.![]()
Again, it rigs really clean and exactly to the printed specs.
Rotation was crisp and easy in virtually no wind.
There is a hint of Easterly now so I might get a chance to try it on the water soon. ![]()
Here it is on 430 SDM mast:

I used mine today Andrew...was just enough wind but it was really nice. Cam rotation is awesome and the sail felt really slippery despite me having it under downhauled and bagged out. Much fun had.
Wondering if new graphics are planned for next seasons quiver.
I think you mean the Colours![]()
The Graphics this year are certainly different from last year. ![]()
I spent a lot of time today riging and re-rigging the 5.2m Koncept, as this size is my Prime speed size. ![]()
I tried it on 3 different RDM 370 masts. (One was standard KA. Another, a mast built in the same factory but a few mm smaller in diameter (called Ultra RDM), the third I sourced from another factory to my specs) All identical in measured bend curve but slightly different in diameter and stiffness.
Read on keeping in mind I am getting very picky now:
All looked fantastic and honestly, I would be perfectly happy with any of them. But I think I will use the slightly softer one first so see it I get slightly better 'feel' in the sail.
The specs on the sail are spot on for boom length, and maybe a cm long for downhaul. You could put 393cm on it but I liked it better at 391.5 -392cm. (Some, but not all, sails stretch about 5mm over the first few uses. After that they don't seem to change.). For the Luderitz canal, I would probably go to 393cm. ![]()
I think this 5.2m looks to be slightly more of a dedicated speed shape than the 4.7m and 5.7m. It appeared slightly deeper and more twisted. Maybe that is just wishful thinking, but for what I want that should be perfect.
Cam rotation was a bit tighter than the other two sizes, which is also a plus for speed but I did some 'tuning' to get them rotating easy as well. For most sailing I prefer easy rotation over ultimate rigidity. They rotated easiest on the skinnier, ultra RDM mast so I will probably use that one for just blasting around.
The sail sets very clean as with all the other 2019 Koncepts I have rigged. The wider luff pocket of the Speed sizes looks really great and the bottom cam pushes noticeably more depth into the bottom of the sail and looks nice on the land.

i'm not sure if you're mucking around with me or not SQ? below is the 2017 graphic.
looks very similar.
I'm not singling out the primary colours but it;s been 3 years now. so if your not a huge fan of hard contrasting primary colours then that's 3 years without a new sail. where's the love for those that prefer analogous colours. :-)
Yes, the graphic changes are there from year to year but the colours and overall layout are mainly the same. I guess it's always a trade off. The colours are distictive and stand out as different. Easy to spot the KA sails on the water. Do you change them a lot and lose that? Everyones taste is different. Personally, I am far more interested in the sail shape and performance, but thats just me. ![]()
Here is the 2019 again for comparison:

Hi GazMan.
I just rigged the 2019 6.6m Koyote, (which has unchanged dimensions from 2018), and it rigged spot on to the specs on the sail on my 430 RDM mast, as I expected. ![]()
Keep in mind that rigging on a different RDM mast, and especially on an SDM mast may change the downhaul setting slightly. (Probably less then 1cm). I am confident the specs were correct on the 2018 Koyote and all the other Koyote sizes.
I also just rigged a 2019 5.8m KULT, and it too rigged spot on to printed specs.
Getting into slightly unfamiliar territory, I just rigged up the 2019 Koyote. I have had a 2009 6.6m Koyote around for years for my family to use. It only gets used a couple of times a season so I have never seen the need to update it.
Well now I do! ![]()
The new one looks spectacular and rigged beautifully. I can see why some of the Inverloch crew like them so much.
It rigged exactly to the specs on the sail on my 430 RDM mast, but there is range to adjust for more downhaul and outhaul if required.
It reminded me again that the Koncept (cambered) sail is easier for me to rig! Inserting the mast in a wide pocket is definitely quicker and easier, and also removing it. But the Koyote is still very plug and play. And also noticably lighter in weight than the Koncept, which is in turn quite noticably lighter than the KARace. I am really looking forward to sailing it to get an updated comparison with the Koncept. ![]()

While I was at it I also rigged a 2019 5.8m Kult. It's been many years since I played with one of these, and I can see that a lot of progress has been made in the shape of this model over the years. It has a noticably more defined draught shape, and higher spec battens to lock that shape in the lower sail. It's not the sort of sail I would use much. I am more at the end of the range, either the Killer for the waves or the Koncept for blasting, GPS and speed. But I can easily see how this sail appeals to those who blast around on proper bump + jump conditions and open ocean type water. ![]()
The blue is really nice and I was surprised at how much 'pop' it has in real life v's pictures.
It was simple to rig on my RDM 430 mast. The boom length is almost identical to the 6.6m Koyote, which surprised me at first, but of course, the Koyote 6th (boom) batten extends quite a way out past the end of the boom, unlike the Allterrain Kult, and the Koyote has a longer luff with more foot area as well.
This felt like a very light sail to swing around on the grass, and I think it would also be a very good first sail for learning, or getting back into windsurfing, but it also covers the advanced bump and Jumper. Kind of an all-rounder. ![]()
I also liked the large clear window panels for great visibility of what is around you.
I am not sure it would be wise to use it in proper waves without replacing the tube/rod battens in the lower body (#3 + #4) with more shorebreak pounding resistant solid ones, but the sail would certainly make a nice 'sometime' wave sail for lighter winds with that caveat.
