Has anyone done the maths.
300hrs/4hrs per session
= 75 sessions
75 sessions / 52 weeks
= 1.5 years before replacement.
There are many people for whom 75 sessions on a sail is a decade. In my wind deprived location, 35 sessions in a year means you are skipping out of work more than occasionally. We also have to windsurf more in the winter so less UV. Our sails last way too long.
Well got word from Mark at Surf Sail Australia that the 2019 Ezzy sails are arriving tomorrow!! Can't wait to try the new Elites after riding Taka3s the last couple of years.
Also got word that Surf Sail Australia are having a very limited time 20% off everything in store sale.... that's everything like windsurf/kite gear and clothes and accessories. Sounds like a good deal to me. Don't think it will last long.... you need to use the code 'W19' in checkout.
Cheers, Paul

And that gentleman is about the time it took my 2018 9.5m Lion to start splitting. Actually it was 14months. But i do sail frequently. 4 x 20mm splits in the Xply panel above boom. Xply holds it together. BUT THATS NOT THE POINT. THE MYLAR IS SUSPECT. See my previous post for pic. Ive got sails from 2000 n paid $50 for that look in better shape than my 2018 $1100 sail.......![]()

Cool! 20% off helps a lot ![]()
yeah cause they are so crap and fall apart after a million sessions, I did they same :)![]()
Got two 2016 elites. One has the crinkles problem while the other one has more washed out colors yet no crinkles. The crinkly one does feel a bit dried out even though it saw less sun. It also went through a severe wash with broken mast which didn't help for sure.
New 19 Elite

I got the 4.7 and 5.0 to try out. Fantastic looking and well made sails.
Mark from surf and sail WA looked after me ??

Curious, were these a new purchase ?
Yep, new from surf sail in WA, 19 Elites

Rigged up the sails today to adjust a few things.... can't wait to try them they will be lighter in the hands than the Taka.

Lighting isn't great, the colours pop way more than pictures show. Can't wait to get them in the water!!! 4.2, 4.7, 5.3 ![]()

Pic of today's action on Maui
Notice the 3/4 batten - luffability!
They look awesome wave sails![]()

this can't be confirmed nor denied. Lighter in the hands IMO is the feel on the water. It's subjective.

True mate I'll confirm once I try in next few days.

Look forward to your report.
Interesting to see that the material between batten-3 and batten-4 next to the mast, is still wrinkled/floppy.

All part of the design, this looseness in the luff is what gives it great bottom end power as it fills, and then gives the ability to go more neutral in transition. Similar to the Taka, but not as exaggerated (with the Taka's 3/4 batten there is much more looseness). As the sail fills with wind, that looseness disappears.
Yep, I tried the Elite 2018 last winter and it was having some taka feeling in them, the elite do not fill with wind(full batten vs 3/4 battens) as the taka, but it fiils pretty quick. The Elite is not as good as the Taka upwind, but seemed to be more stable.
However, in sailing, I'm not sure i was feeling them lighter, my taka's feels pretty light....but I tried 5.3 Elite while my biggest taka is a 5.0...I coudn't compare them back to back...my memory muscle was giving a +1 to the taka...but not sure. I'm very curious to see what other think on that!
Here are a few pics that show how the luff pocket works. You can see in the 1st pic in the bottom turn he is dumping the power and the sail is going more neutral showing the wrinkles in the luff (the batten above boom helps keep shape in the Elite where the Taka 3/4 batten allows it to go completely neutral). The pic of 360 also shows it loose in transition. In the third photo as he pulls back on the power it fills out and is taught with a nicely shaped profile, which is how the sail is whenever u are pulling on the power or generally sailing along. The last pic is of the Taka, showing an even bigger luff wrinkle as he de-powers to drop the hand and stay effortlessly in control (he makes it look effortless anyway)

What a beautiful looking sail!!! Love the color scheme!! It looks like a sunset. I'm getting the 5.8 Zeta when they go on sale at the end of our season in the USA.

Used the red 5.0 recently in super gusty 15-30 knots, challenge conditions. To early to tell, but beautiful looking and super well made sail. Blue 4.7 just cause it looks amazing ??
Hey,i love my Ezzys but just heard back from Ezzy. Apparently my 2018 Ezzy 9.5Lion is sunburnt. UV DAMAGED. The splits occuring in the Xply are bcoz the mylar is brittle. I rarely ever leave sail lying on beach. Prefer to go sail. A lot.
So $1100 for 14 months sailing. Hmm where is the value in that? At somepoint LIGHTNESS must trade off for LONGLIFE. AFTER ALL ITS NOT A F1 STYLE RACESAIL.![]()

CMON EZZY WHERES THE QUALITY GONE?? FFS..

how can it heat up ,? its clear plastic .maybe this is another question .
maybe I'll put sunscreen on mine ![]()
looks like you will be replacing the small panel ...soon ...but you are right the bigger sails have lighter mono
my 8,5 is almost as light as my 7,0 cheetah ,and is showing some signs of wear in the same area ...i reckon i'm be looking for a big xxxx beer sticker to put on mine ![]()
A sail with big bright colours is meant to sailed in the sun. But it seems if you want longer than a season or two , ya better sail at NIGHT.![]()
All sails are effected by UV, i would doubt their are better made sails on the market than Ezzy, as far a durability are concerned, plus probably the best rigging system around.
Sail feel, is subjective, especially wave sailing, I've always been happy with Severne and Ezzy sails, I've been using both for over 10yrs. As a wave sailor we a spoilt by so much choice and excellent kit !!
I can't wait to get more water time in my shinny new Elites ??
Hey im rapt with the older EZZYS I have.(PRE2014) Never miss a beat. Never an issue to rig or tune em. Awesome. But the new LIGHTER XPLY 2018 degrades very quickly, compared to any of my older EZZYS. It becomes brittle n splits easily. Xply still holds it together though.![]()
